Made a killer mac n cheese last night, throwing in solid handful of diced pickled jalapenos. Get on it 👌

    • +4

Dijon, pickled jalapenos, quality smoked bacon. Makes an amazing mac'n'cheese (best enjoyed as a side to some smoked BBQ meats)

      • +30

Yeah threw some Dijon in too.

        • Boil up a cup of macaroni
        • Fry up a little onion and garlic
        • Cut up half a head of broccoli and throw it in with the pasta in the last minute or 2
        • in the pan, toast a generous amount of panko bread crumbs with some parsley
        • drain the macaroni and broccoli and put back in pot
        • low heat, add about a quarter cup of milk, a half cup sour cream (or greek/natural yoghurt will also work) and about 1.5 cups of whatever cheeses you want - I go with mostly tasty and Swiss cheese, and a decent sprinkle of parmesan. Mix together
        • throw in your onion and garlic, and a generous amount of jalapenos and good dollop of dijon

Put it all in a baking dish, top with the panko, throw on some more cheese if you think you could do with more fat in your life and bake for 10 mins or so.

The base for Mac and cheese (literally, just Macaroni and your choice of cheese) is super easy, then you just chuck in whatever other flavours take your fancy.

good on ya mate, wasn't expecting that 👍🏻

I'll give a crack and complain if it tastes like shit :) Just kidding mate, thanks,

        • +1

One cheese to try that everyone seems to skip is cream cheese. IMO best addition to mac & cheese and béchamel sauce for lasagne.

          • +1

@Matt P: Both would be great. Definitely need to try out a bechamel version!

        • possibly the best comment

        • Is that Dijon mustard?

    • @jetblack @kapone
Hi mates, what's your mac and cheese recipe?

      • +1

Oops, replied in the wrong spot. Recipe in another comment above 👍

    • +1

Also, keep the jalapeno pickle juice, use it to marinate chicken overnight before frying it. Makes a tasty burger!

  • +1

    Olé!

  • +4

    Add diced to homemade nachos…gamechanger.

    • +4

      No need to dice!

      • +1

+1 I started adding them chopped, they now go straight from the jar to the top of the finished nachos!

Also, I recommend adding some of the pickling juice to your guacamole.

  • How long would it take you to go through 2 kilos of jalapenos?

    • +3

Coupla weeks if I'm eating cream cheese bagels for lunch 😂

    • +3

not long, they are pretty mild so putting a lot on pizzas or in salads or sandwich's goes through them fast. have not tried this brand though.

    • +2

Depends, how long does a jar stay fresh once it's been opened?

      • +3

Well if you zoom in you can see this 2gk jar says consume withing 3 weeks.

But…. this 500g jar says consume within a week.

So I'm guessing Fehlbergs just make it up to ensure you eat them quick enough, but don't get put off by a short duration.

They'll probably last months if you tighten the jar and don't leave them out for too long.

      • +1

I buy Fehlberg's regularly but in the smaller jar. Usually gone in under a month. I find they go a little sour after a couple of weeks. Not spoiled but sour.

I used to buy the Coles jalapeños (before they were recalled) and found they kept much better.

I eat a lot of jalapeños but would not buy this size jar.

        • Out of curiosity, which Coles jalapenos are you referring to? I've always see coles-branded jalapenos ins stock, curious to know if it's the same you're referring tol.

          • @Kotchi: These ones:

            https://imgur.com/a/Tyc9pPI

Coles recalled them about 6 months ago and still have not replaced the product. There is a empty space on the shelves in the aisle that has pickles and olives, etc.

They do a little jar of sliced jalapeños though, which is with all the Mexican food, beans, salsa, etc.

            • @wavesgreen: I’ll have to keep an eye out, although they do appear listed on coles online still for $2.50 - wonder if you can place the order online?

            • @wavesgreen: I was going to recommend the smaller jar. They are so crunchy and fresh tasting.

      • +3

I have a jar from last time ALDI had these available, perfect timing really!

I don't understand how they can say it's only good for a few weeks, they are pickled ffs!

        • +1

          Yeah, this

        • +1

Yeah mine sit in the fridge for months and taste fine. It's like they don't know what pickling does to food..

    • +9

I had a jar of these in the fridge (after opening) for almost a year, it was still good. They were still firm, not soggy after that time.

      • +1

        ditto

      • I agree, will last at least a few months in the fridge.

    • Ive had these jars tightened refrigerated for 2 months atleast. I don't even know what the limits would be, they are preserved well

  • Goes well with Korean ramen and tomato based pasta dishes but that’s a lot of Jalapeños!

  • +2

    Hot deal!

  • +1

How's that vs the similar sized container @ Costco?

    Love these things.

  • +4

    Get that quilton ready

  • +2

had a jar 2 years ago and it was amazing, had a jar last year but it tasted off. hope this years batch is goood!

    • Same! Was put off Fehlbergs after that.

    • Same. Only time I've ever had a pickled product go off. Wrote to the company and they gave me a voucher but no explanation. Something has definitely changed in the quality. The smaller jars used to keep well for months, now I find they go sour after a couple of weeks. Sour but not spoiled.

I get the feeling they have changed the recipe or manufacturing plant.

    • I'm sorry to hear that. I like this product :(

  • +4

"And it burns, burns, burns … the ring of fire"

    • +1

      Did you hurt yourself today?

  • Are these actually hot or just taste like sour shit?

    • +4

      Neither

    • +1

      Definitely got kick

  • +1

Are these crunch as Coles one?
Haven't seen Coles one for months

    • +1

These are super crunchy. They're so good!

      • +1

These are nowhere near as crunchy as the Coles ones.

  • Omg yes!

  • Country of origin?

On that note I cannot find minced garlic that's Australian made (from Australian grown garlic). Everything seems to be ex-China/India.

    • +2

      I'm pretty certain it's India

    • +3

Mince garlic yourself, tastes way better that way. Get a zyliss garlic press, no need to peel the garlic.

      • +2

I second this. Freshly minced garlic is much nicer.

If you're looking for Australian-made pickled jalapenos, try Leabrook Farms Australian Sliced Jalapenos. They're sold at Woolworths.

  • +1

    Why not 2kg?
    Why 1.95kg?

    • +1

      Shrinkflation.

      • Its actually not shrinkflation.

They have had the 1.95kg pack as a special buy three or four times since 2019 and the price has been $7.99 the whole time.

Maybe it is 1.95kg of solid, and the rest is liquid (though that seems like not much liquid).

  • +1

Brand is good. Not mushy like some.

For me good value backup to those roasted sliced serrano's woolies has, which flavour wise leaves these in the dust.

    • the ones with the green mexican wrestler label?

    • You should try hatch chiles from New Mexico, probably the world's best pepper.

      • Cool I'll keep an eye out for some for a taste test.
I grow serranos for their taste plus they freeze well and the plants overwinter in melb fine, but have been looking at expanding into a few other varieties.

  • +2

For anybody in the Redlands, or close to a Golden Circle Factory Outlet, they are currently selling 3kg bags (shelf stable foil bags) of Jalapenos for $2

    • Found the Holland Crescent resident.

      • Haha, grew up in the suburb but not that area

  • +1

The Bryne Co from Woolies are now down to $6 and are pretty dang tasty (and spicy enough for my white booty). Good alternative for when these aren't available.

  • Interesting. Might try smoking then making into sauce.

  • +1

Fehlberg's chilli pickled onions are the best pickled onions.

  • Proctologist’s are putting deposits on new Teslas as this deal goes out.

  • Do these burn your butt?

    • +1

Not even close. They add good flavour, but burning hot they are not

  • +1

These are pretty average. Sandhurst one's much superior.

    • I tried Sandhurst's once and they were very soft, not nice. Haven't tried them since.

  • +1

Finely blend together the leftover liquid with mayo to make spicy mayo.

  • Bought the large jar of jalapenos for like $8 a couple of years ago. Was absolute crap. No heat no flavour in jalapenos. Bland.

    • I think summer jalapenos are mild and sweet and winter are hot. So good depend on what was in your batch.

  • This is mildly exciting

  • +2

    She's a 10 but she pronounces it with a hard J

    • +1

I pronounce it with a hard j to annoy my wife. As well as Fajitas

  • +1

As funny as it sounds….i love these on a nutella sandwich. Usually put 5-6 of them ontop of nutella and goes down a treat.

  • +3

Woolworths has reduced the price for this product to $8.00 this week if your local ALDI has no more stock.

    • Not sure if its usually on stock at my nearby woolworths.

But I have checked the online 'check stock in our stores' and none come up…

      • Woolworths sometimes removes the ability to check store stock online for some specials. It is best to check for stock in store or ring up your local Woolworths.

  • No stock at one of my local aldi's (sydney metro) today, will check another this afternoon.

  • None at my local Aldi but heaps of the olives and red peppers, not even an empty space where they may have been. Suspect delayed or something. Checkout operator had zero clue

    • +1

None in my local but staff said everything except these arrived and that there was some delay on the jalepenos. Couldn't give me an eta.

    • Same. I tried two other stores close to me and all three of them had the same stock, as you mentioned above.
Looking at https://www.stockcheck.aldi.com.au/ for the Jalapeños at my three local stores now says they all have availability. Will check again today.

      • I just checked my suburb. I get 4 pages of 5 rows each of 'No Stock Information Available'. Very strange that all 20 local stores have the same status.

        • its like they didn't get the jalapenos but did get the olives and red peppers. :(

        • Yeh I checked in-store again yesterday still no info on the delay.
Today the online checker still says nothing

  • +1

I can see olives but no jalapenos :|

    • See, I can see both. Maybe refresh and try again?
