AirAsia is returning? Sweet. I loved their lie flat seats up front. Best budget airline business class in the world IMO

Yes they are back! only from Sydney for now, but I am hopeful :)

Will fly from Melbourne in November I think

    • Best budget airline business class in the world

Surely that'd be British Airways? (minus the budget pricing)

But seriously, JetBlue Mint is far superior.

  • So what are the chances flight will get cancel, keep seeing this subject to government/regulatory approval on flight.

    • I'm not seeing that on the AirAsia website - but since KL is open and AirAsia have come back to Sydney, I think these are a somewhat safe bet

I check on a flight from Perth to KL in December and there is a red triangle with a remark Flight is subject to obtaining government approval hence the remark.

Careful about going with this then. I booked a direct Melbourne to Bali route about 10 years ago with AirAsia and they were selling the tickets before even the route was officially approved. They had no timelines when it would be approved but still sold them. As you would imagine, it didn't get approved by the time my flight happened so I had to take multiple flights to get to Bali, and 3 weeks later going back home the flight route was still not approved and they put me on a flight that I couldn't do, so I booked a separate one. That was the last time I flew AirAsia and would advise no one repeat my mistake here, especially where it's a non-approved flight.

    • sounds like a cheeky deal ;

    • shuuuuuuuuush🤑

Yeah but once you add on luggage and seat and food it will be like $700 which is close to Singapore Airlines when on sale, of course you have to transit via Singapore which is a downside for some.

Also AirAsia is no different to a robber. They cancelled all our flights due to Covid understandably, first gave us refund in credits then suddenly changed the credits to voucher which is so restrictive - you can only use it to pay for base fare on AAX flights, meaning you fork out extra for fees and charges for the new flight.

Yep - this is only a bargain if you can be a frugal traveller with 7kg hand luggage ;)

      • Malaysia Airlines charges fees for baggage too nowadays :(

        • Yeah, Eco Lite doesn’t have checked baggage. You need to pay $15 to upgrade to Eco Basic, which includes 20kg.

I'll never forget the nonsense they pulled on their customers. In fact, I heard one of their executives launched a 'VIP program' where customers get to travel a limited number of times annually for a flat fee in the face of a pandemic. It was a cash grab no different from daylight robbery.

Annual leave is fully booked until next year August…

I need to go to Bali start of december.

  • Any ideas or advice for getting cheaper flights if I'm travelling to Malaysia mid-Dec? Or are they going to stay at peak rates :'(

    • I'm in the same boat, I think most will charge highly now at that time of the year, Malindo, Qantas, Malaysia all very high. Only AirAsiaX is a bit cheaper but not sure if the flight will go ahead.

    • +1

why would they discount during peak season?

    • You won't get discounts in the peak season.

    • +1

      You should have booked earlier.

    • go via Bali > KL with Airasia.

    Good luck surviving

  • Back in 2019, I paid $A184 for a return airfare without checked in baggage flying SYD to KUL with AirAsia X. Except, that I did not fly, as AirAsia X stopped flying and went bankrupt.

The hired a bunch of merchant *ankers to get them out of bankruptcy. The merchant *ankers came up with a scheme which wiped out 99.7% of their debts, including AirAsia X's debt to me.

The merchant *ankers were paid $US12 m (not discounted by 99.7%).

As a goodwill gesture, AirAsia X has handed out vouchers for the amounts previously paid by would be passengers. These vouchers can only be used on the fare component of AirAsia X tickets, not taxes and other charges.

  • Has anyone actually tried booking? none of the payment methods is accepted on the final payment page.

Credit/debit card > showing error message
Paypal > as soon as u click an error page is displayed
    Poli > not working

I suppose they are using this for data collection.

    • Credit/debit card worked for me. Others didn’t.

  • Also with these non-approved flights, I read someone said that they then got an email from AirAsia saying they had to pay taxes and surcharges, so maybe they are not part of the ticket when you book.

Seems AirAsia 2022 has put price of baggage up, it becomes expensive.

I'm just wondering if there are gonna be any deals for flights to Asia in December 2022 or I should just book now because prices are very high for all destinations besides Bali.

    • My itinerary show all taxes and fuel surcharges when making payment.

Do AirAsia still require COVID jabs to board? I know Malaysia has dropped all restrictions, but can't see anything to suggest AirAsia has dropped their jab mandate.
