UberEats no longer refunds

For the last 2 weeks I noticed Ubereats will no longer refund anything.

I’ve been ordered everyday for the last few years with no issues but they have a new policy.

No refunds for missing items or even mouldy food.

It’s happened 3 times now in a row and will be switching to another food delivery company.

Are you sure it isn’t just you? You may have reached some kind of lifetime limit on refund claims.

    • Nope my friend just told me the same thing

      • what on the earth makes you to try to refund 3 times in just 2 weeks ? lol

    • +5

Definitely the case. When you make multiple refund requests in a short period of time it's normal for the system to stop blindly autocrediting you and instead be reviewed manually.

  • Did they atleast offer you some app credit instead ?

    • +1

      Nothing was given.

      • +2

        That’s rough

The worst bit is to not be able to contact them at all, all we get are inane copy paste AI like generic responses.
Atleast Doordash and Menulog allows you to call them, so you can speak with an actual person and get some sort of an explanation.

        • +2

DoorDash is much better with customers service. It’s a shame not as many restaurants are on their.

          • +2

@Eatingsugar: Its coz so many restaurants have already got their hands full with Uber Eats, Menulog etc and all the unnecessary admin that comes with it.
The reconciliation at the end of the day/week..
You run out of some dish, you gotta update it on the app so people can’t order it.
Adjust delivery times, tracking drivers etc Plus, these apps have become a necessary evil because an average restaurant gets 40%+ of its total takings via them, when they don’t even make that much money off’em due to the high commission rates..
So that’s why the comparatively newer Deliveroo, Doordash and EatClub are being overlooked by some restaurants, for now.

          • +2

@Eatingsugar: I think if you were to request a "higher than normal" number of refunds (regardless of who's fault it is), their customer service level will probably 'drop' as well. Most likely in the form of a ban or face more scrutiny for claims

Just speaking generally (and not suggesting you), I think there'd be a lot of people who abuse the automatic refund process - that then ruins it for the people who genuinely require a refund.

          • @Eatingsugar: Had similar treatment by Doordash so not necessarily.

Why did you request a refund three times in a row?

What happens if your delivery driver just eats your meal?

    • It wasn’t in a row. I had at least 3 orders in between.
I’m not risking my money again that’s for sure.

      • +6

Have you considered just picking up your food instead? Or cooking yourself?

        • What kind of a question is that

The op might as well cook all his meals then. That’ll solve everything ?

  • +1

    Cool story

    • Letting people know not to risk their money.

  • +11

I refunded a missing item earlier today so its definitely not affecting everyone.

    • Did you place a high $ order?
My orders are around $20 each time

      • +3

it was a $35 order and the refund was for $19 since it was the wrong item.

  • +11

Probably has more to do with you making a relatively high number of refund requests in a short period of time.

I placed an order yesterday and part of the meal didn't arrive and I got the usual no questions asked auto-refund.

    • +2

I'd like to know which place is serving up mouldy food….?

Maybe OP forgot his food was at the door for a few weeks ?

For the last 2 weeks I noticed Ubereats will no longer refund anything.

Over the last few years, I think I only remember ever having one item missing.

You've had 3 in the last two weeks? Something smells a bit fishy….

    • I mostly order groceries. They miss few things or send me off things sometimes.

      • +7

        You said "sometimes"?

No refunds for missing items or even mouldy food. It’s happened 3 times now in a row

You've clearly hit a threshold, which exists to stop the 'auto refund' being abused. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but if you've refunded 3 orders in a row you're either exceptionally unlucky, or you're abusing the refunds.

my friend just told me the same thing

I'd posit your friend is abusing it too, seeing as it's a point of discussion between you.

    • op ordered sushi?

  • I've never had this problem…

    • +5

Me either as I've never used uber eats. Follow me for more life hacks.

  • +2

I got a refund last week due to missing item in my order, you probably hit a hard limit, and they are stopping the refunds for you in particular.

  • +4

I’ve been ordered everyday for the last few years

    Damnnnnn

Even if it's mainly groceries, that's a huge extra cost on your weekly spend. CEO's etc, who could easily afford it, would still go to Coles

Wait, yet you can't afford fish n chips?

    Hmm

    • -3

They send me non stop grocery promotions on Uber eats and some of the places stock food I can’t get locally.

    • -4

      nice stalking

  • -2

I always have stuff missing, but I don't claim them because I don't want my account flagged or whatever.

    • +5

well disciplined customer…youll do well when they roll out the social credit system

  • Can I ask for a refund if food is super late damn forgot

  • +2

Can you do an AMA? I want to understand a bit more about this "i've ordered through them everyday for few years", and just how many refunds you've requested in the last 2 weeks (given that it is clearly not 1 only)…

    User name definitely checks out

  • Uber eats no longer refunds

How many refunds have you had in the last few years? Seems like you might be shadow banned for refunds.

You sound like a serial refunder always finding 'issues' for free food.

  • I remember a couple years back now when the deal for $30 UberEats credit got posted here that was supposed to be a private code and everyone got charged. I argued with a guy on their support chat for ages to get a refund and he was flatly refusing. I had been catching Ubers to work almost daily for about 6 months or so so I eventually just said to the guy "Look at my account, look at the spend, then just process the refund", next message was a confirmation that they'd processed the refund. Maybe try that tactic?

  • How many refunds have you requested in the past 2 weeks? How much $ have they refunded?

Give us some statistics so we know when they stop doing it.

  • I did an experiment tonite. Ordered some ubereats at 600. Was ready to pickup at 645. Driver finally delivered after a couple cancelled at 745. I am 10 min from resto.

    Pretty much cold.

Did my standard photo of contact less thermometer. Full refund.

    • +1

I didn’t know they refund for cold food. How often have you gotten refunds for this?

  • i can count on one hand how many times ived ordered from ubereats

  • Uber Eats is for lazy people. Just go get the food yourself. I have never used Uber Eats.

    • I used it to get a free chicken from nandos once. Took an hour. $10 for a chicken at woolies. $20 for one at nandos. $30 to get it delivered via uber eats. Thankfully the $30 voucher was all I needed to know it's just a lazy tax

  • All of these delivery services are such a rip off these days anyway and majority of the times it comes soggy and lukewarm due to these drivers picking up multiple orders at a time and then delivering them one at a time.

The only time I would use these services if I am too sick to go out if not I will either go pick up the order myself or buy ingredients to make a proper home cooked meal.

  • ubereats professional here.

I can confirm refunds still work, have made half a dozen over the last week (yes I use a new acc each time). and yes they are easily over $100 each

My guess is you have hit a threshold or acc flagged, stop crying and get even, find other ways to use food delivery services like uber, doordash, menu log to create fresh acc's and order then refund = winning.

These companies are a disease to society and only serve to benefit their corrupt self, so take advantage of them any way you can.

Anyways budday - it's just your account, not everyone. BUT I will say from my many years of experience refunds are tighter than they used to be and there is some kind of system algorithm in place. It used to be alot easier to do multiple refunds, now you need a new acc each time to guarantee it

You are the typical ozbargain/reddit/whirlpool type of poster, you make me smile and chuckle inside, thank you for the entertainment =)

        • You can act all cool and snobbish like that but for the fact, you have had to make a secondary account just to be able to express your cheap opinions.
Grow a pair and just use your actual account next time.

          • @Gervais fanboy: I am cool, snobbish how? you don't know me from a bag of free uber eats! lol

You can just feel the envy and how much your burning… pm me I will send you free chocolate to cheer you up kid.

    • God bless you. Thx for the tip. Don’t worry about the haters.
