M1 iPad pro is really good, grab it, no need to wait for the M2 iPad pro

    • +1

Also the heat issue on M2 macbook air will be a different experience on iPad.

Possibly 2022 will still have M1 for that issue or degraded m2.

      • +1

I was going to wait for the M2, but reading this i might just get the M1, is the M2 that much faster than the M1?

        • +1

It's 17~2x percent faster between macbook air models based on bench mark. But wouldn't feel much difference for iPad uses.

I'm unsure my comment was just guessing.

      • Heat issues? I use my m2 air all day every day since Ive got it and had no issues.
Plus its WAY more functional then an ipad.

        • +3

becuz all the heat is right below the screen you barely experience it. there's 10% throttling which is not a big issue but it will be a different case on iPad

      • -4

What are you on about dude? M2 throttles less than M1. Look it up

    • I hear the M2 version will massage your feet tho.

    • I will be trading up from a 2027 IPP but 11 inch. I will wait until October to see what the M2 IPP is like. It will be the other [yet to be disclosed] features that will be of interest more than the M2. It isn’t using all of the power of the M1 as it is.

  • Awesome price.

  • +1

That’s a pretty nice price, shame it’s not cellular though.

I picked up the 2TB 5G model a few months back for $2699, that was quite the deal off RRP.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693326

    • +2

I saw this deal but I would not spend extra 1k$ for higher model.

And Australia doesn't support 1 mobile number for a number of 5G devices so I don't bother thinking to have a cellular model.

But yeah if it's affordable to you, it's great too.

      • +1

I have a data share SIM in it with a 580GB data pool.

I’d never buy an iPad without cellular as a big part of the appeal is its connectivity when out of the house/office.

        • Which mobile are you using? I heard optus and telstra don't provide that options.

          • @javawoo: Telstra.

          • @javawoo: Telstra/Optus/Vodafone all do data sharing.
However you have to pay $10/month or $15/month for the SIM to put in your iPad.

No prepaid or MVNOs (eg Woolworths Mobile, Amaysim, Boost, Gomo) do data sharing - but you could just buy a separate service/plan if you wanted

        • +1

I feel that it's not that inconvenient to hotspot from a phone, plus the extra storage on the tablet is very pricey.

          • @Thanges: I use ipad 99%at home or office and wifi is ready all the time :)

          • +3

            @Thanges: I feel it is 🙃

            • +1

@Mitch889: Me too, and even if it isn't. I am not going to pay several hundred extra to not have to take a few seconds to connect the hotspot lol

        • Depends on what you use it for. For me the GPS that comes with cellular is very important for workflow. I would not buy an IPP without cellular but that is a for a work machine for field work (the best).
For my daughter at uni just hotspotting her iPad Air to her phone or wifi for connectivity she has no need for the GPS and just went for a wifi ipad Air (M1).

        • I’d never buy an iPad without cellular as a big part of the appeal is its connectivity when out of the house/office.

Weird, I never buy anything with cellular as a big part of the appeal is that you can just hotspot everything to your main mobile 🤷🏼‍♂️

One SIM, one plan, everything uses it.

          • @Nom: Just buy whatever you need. That's all

    • -1

You'll want the cellular version if you ever plan on using an iPad as sat nav for your car. The wifi versions don't have GPS for some reason.

      • +1

That's interesting, but that would be a very small market of people that can afford a $2000 ipad but not a less than 10 year old car which would all have carplay/android connectivity (or aftermarket addition on an older car)

      • +2

Leaving a $2000 "sat nav" in the car or being forced to carry it with you when you get out of the car…. I think I'll stick with my phone for sat nav.

      • Not recommended for that.

      • +1

Whis using iPad for Gps? Lol

  • +13

Got iPad m1 for over 1 year now and I still maintain it is totally crippled as far as being able to use even 10% of potential. I love apple products but it’s just a d*** move by Apple to not have decent software to support. iOS 15 and even 16 is a massive disappointment.

    • +2

Agree but there's nothing much they can do further i guess.

      • +4

Improve multitasking, full file management fully compatible with windows server would just about address most of my concerns. Maybe a bit more work on copy/paste options.
The multitasking looks good in what I have seen of ipadOS 16. I will be getting myself an IPP for Christmas.

        • full file management

          Coming September 2069

          fully compatible with windows server

          It’s nice to dream :)

        • The windowed mode might be delayed, but it is coming for M1 and above ipads.

    • +1

That’s why I sold mine and bought the MacBook Pro 14 instead.

      • +1

I’m thinking selling mine when my win max 2 preorder rocks up… but tbh I’d prob miss it sigh

        • Wow, never heard of this previously: GPD WIN Max 2 - Handheld Gaming PC with Bezel-less Display
What will they think of next!?

    • +2

Absolutely, I sold mine in 6months from launch and lossed 20% of the value. One of the worst purchases I've made on OzB. It's a fancy toy that you can't even have fun that's the best way to describe it.

Overrrated iPadOS, updates that are merely apologies to how inadequate the thing is for productivity. Just no. Glad I didn't pin my hopes on the future updates because they won't fix ix things for as long as simple users continue to gloat how great it is.

      • Then iPad Pro is not for you. Buy a cheap one.

  • +11

$1600 on an iPad, I'll never understand it.

    • +1

      It’s a really nice screen

    • +10

It has an apple drawn on the back

      • +1

        And made by apple

        • +2

          And made in China

          • +5

            @prodnus: But designed in California

          • +2

@prodnus: it doesn't really matter. They build it as Apple's instruction like robot.

    • +1

An Apple a day, keep the doctor away …… It's COVID free if you use the iPad every day.

    • Lovely colour, with squared-off edges.

    • +1

iPads are very capable devices. They probably are overkill for many users, but that doesn’t mean their aren’t users who make use of them.

      • Very good screen
      • Consistent experience
      • Great build quality
      • Accessories available - Keyboard case, $200 Apple Pencil
      • Integrates with the Apple Ecosystem
      • Consistent software updates
      • Fast processor
      • Pro apps are available on the iPad
      • Apps are actually built for the experience. Try photo/video editing on a Android.

Beyond that, you need to understand things like:

      • Marketing
      • Diminishing returns
      • Pricing ladders
      • +1

IPP are definitely overkill for most users unless you have particular work uses for them. I do.
The iPad Air m1 though is pretty awesome and enough for most people. All you give up is the super impressive mini LED screen and have to settle for a merely impressive LED, oh and a couple of speakers.

      • Ipad doesn’t crash apps as much as Android. It’s just a far better OS, and the hardware is also better even on a normal ipad.

  • +1

This is the size and aspect ratio that I want in a device, mainly for reading large format pdfs like text books. Difficult to justify the cost though.

    • +1

If you can, wait 14.1 inch model next year.

      • +1

Jeez getting a bit big imo

        • +4

he can use 14.1 inch model to read full-size A4 scanned pdf without size reduction.

  • Would JB price match?

    • +2

They do price match with Amazon but I'm not very sure about Apple product, 50% chance depends on the staff.

  • Has anyone purchased at this price? I get a different price once I add it to my cart.

    • sorry I think the deal is expired.

  • Back to $2,099.00 now

    • Thanks I will fix the post

  • Arghhh slept through it!

    • +7

And saved $1649 …. Best bargain ever !!

  • +4

Damn, I was indecisive and it expired. Oh well, I'll stick with my iPad mini and keep $1649 in my pocket.

  • OOTS…….. i really need an ipad rn…

  • As an owner of ipad air which is mainly for media consumption, can people who buy the pro for $1k+ share what their use cases are?

As a work/productivity device isn’t MacBook Air a better choice?

    • I would have used it for drawing/movies. Ipad mini feels too small and screen isn't that great, so I'd be happy with the size increase and mini led + 120hz…but yeah not really needed to be honest.

    • My wife has the ipad m1 256gb, with the fancy apple case/keyboard thingo. It weighs a tonne and is quite different compared to the old ipad 4 that she had.

I convinced her to get it because it had better sound compared to the ipad air, but now I regret it because she blasts her netflix now and I can hear it from across the house.

      • That’s kind of overkill for a media consumption device.

    • I won't use any cases. I don't bring it outside.

      • Use case, as in what are you using it for over a standard iPad Air. (What can it do that an Air isn't capable of/suited to)

        • I think I only use this for drawing and sometimes sub monitor

    • +1

I use mine for fieldwork forms we have built on ArcGIS. Bright screen, Good size for the forms, GPS, decent camera, and I and the clients can sign on the spot and it actually looks like their signature. Data uploaded as I go and can be tracked on GIS maps live on the big screen at base. Photo editing, pdf annotating on the fly is easy too.

A lot less clunky and fit for that purpose than a laptop.

Also, I use it in the bus commute for catching up with the day’s papers, work stuff, emails, editing word docs etc. much easier than a laptop on the bus. And at home it is pretty much my main computer, in fact I am using it now.

An iPad Air can do all these things too, it just as a less flash screen so if that isn’t major I would think of that. But work pays for mine so IPP M2 is the plan!

I do a lot of travel, my work laptop is also as light as possible, a HP dragonfly, but it isn’t as easy to use on public transport, its battery life sucks in comparison to the iPad, the screen is nowhere near as good, no GPS or photo camera, and its touch interface bites a real big one in comparison with an iPad. The HP pen is a horror, and I hate the feel of the keyboard in tablet mode. But it can connect remotely more easily to work servers and corporate/HR forms (which are all horrible by the way). It is like HR hate line workers. And of course, corporate IT have installed a massive profile on the iPad that overly limits its functionality (eg no iCloud) because they hate Apple.

    • +2

It’s cheaper than a graphics tablet with equivalent pen.

  • Damn - missed out! Will keep the money and my original iPad Pro.

    • You're the winner

  • -1

What makes people spend so much on an ipad?

    • +3

What prevents people from spending so much on an ipad?

      • +1

        the cost?

        • Ahh, the same things that stops me buying an EV.

      • some people use iPad like laptop now and make money with it by drawing, painting, and making music, video editing too

  • early bird has apple, missed

    • Actually this sale started yesterday daytime I didn't post it cuz I didn't buy it lol.

  • For media consumption, the S8 Ultra is great.

    • I agree. IPad Pro is for media creation
