Per the listing, not particularly short dated:

This item will expire on 26/02/23.

It's best before too. Peanut butter lasts for ages.

      • How long?

I have a Bega simply nuts unopened best before may this year. I think it would be fine as unopened.

        • +3

The oils will typically go rancid before nasties can grow on the product. If it's unopened that should be ages away, but your nose and tongue will tell you if the oils have gone bad.

        • At my work desk I have a half eaten jar of mayvers from before covid. Best before is Jan 2020 and I've had a few small spoonfuls… No smell, tastes fine but the oil has separated and no ill effects.

Shows up as $4.92 for me

That went fast. Were they price matching someone?

    the GOAT!

I missed the days where you can take peanut butter and nutella sandwichs for school lunch boxes.

    • You still can.

      • +2

Some schools have a nut allergy policy which means you can't.

        • +1

it's pretty much all schools now.

Just a heads up, when I ordered mayvers from amazon each jar came individually bubble wrapped. And then placed in an amazon box (I bought 12 jars).

I perhaps naively thought they would send it in the original box, but presumably they've had breakages through Australia post, and so this prevents that.

It makes little difference in the scheme of things, but I'd like to reduce plastics where I can/ where plastics are avoidable so won't be ordering from them again. Will wait for the next colesworth special. Thought I'd share if anyone else has similar concerns.

I've had varying experiences. When it's packed like how you describe I tend to try and salvage the bubble wrap and reuse it, otherwise I put it into the soft plastics recycling. Depends on how much tape they used to wrap the jars…

But yeah, if Amazon was price matching a store I'd preferably buy them instore for this reason.

Speaking of instore, has anyone seen the new 800g size jar? :-D

      • Yes same. I now have a box of little bubble wrap odds and ends. Useful if you're selling stuff on ebay and need to send things, but I'd rather avoided the situation. Still, live and learn.

    Bag of Aldi salted peanuts

Throw in food processor, add a tiny drizzle of peanut oil if necessary to get it moving.

Jar of crunchy peanut butter for $2

Even better when they do the big 750g bags for $3

    • +2

I did the sums on making my own a little why back and it was never cheaper than buying (when on special). The manufactuers have pretty big scale, as well as costs tho. I may have to revisit my calculations.

    • how much PB, do you get from a 750g bag once processed?

      • +1

750g, unless you need to add a little oil, in which case slightly more

    • The viscosity would kill many cheap blenders/food processors eventually, so you'd potentially have to factor that into the cost :-)

Best tasting peanuts I've had are the Costco ones, super extra large scorch roasted
      https://www.costco.com.au/Grocery-Household/Kirkland-Signatu…

Would probably make killer peanut butter but a bit too expensive for that experiment

  • Damn you Oz bargainers oos

    • Keep an eye out, it might come back. I first got the 3camels notification last night but it was OOS as soon as I went online. I checked again today and it was back, and that's when I posted this deal.
