Hmm the old network technician part of me is saying don't buy D-Link. Current Netgear R7000 is playing up…

$150 cheapest i could find from Megabuy which is out of stock. Good price I guess.

    • Scorptec dropped the price to $149 and have stock.

    • I agree, had D-Link back in the day. The software interface was absolutely terrible. Had range extenders also and it was just terrible.
Replaced all with net gear and has been flawless.
      Do not buy D-Link.

    • I had many problems with this router especially wifi. I strongly suggest downgrading the firmware back to one where it worked well. After almost throwing it out it’s back to perfect for more then a year after downgrade.

Potential Wifi channel issues, power plug issues, warranty issues….

I don't get the fascination of buying OS routers on this site.

    does it fly?

  • I have a TP-Link Archer VR1600v v2 and it's really bad. You can't block URLs, can't install DD WRT, weak signal…
I just checked and this one doesn't do these things either.

Could anybody suggest a good router that will not break the bank? I don't want to pay $400 for a router, I just want to be able to block URLs that display ads on my TV and that has a decent range and strength so I have more than 1 bar from my second floor. Installing DD WRT is a plus but not necessary if I can easily block URLs from the router page.

    • In all honesty, it may be worth separating yout WiFi from your router. I've moved to an OpnSense router running on a cheap AliExpress router. It's far more capable (and more complex), allowing me to use a few DNS blocklists, a better firewall and stop things like ads, tracking and my annoying TV update prompts. Overkill perhaps…

    • I got a gl.inet GL-AX1800 recently and very happy with it.

    • Raspberry pi's probably not that cheap rn but have you looked into pi-hole for blocking unwanted stuff on your network?

  • AVM FRITZ!Box 7530 AX are pretty good @ Mwave $279

    • that's AC router isn't it? this D-Link is WiFi-6

      • my bad, looks like they got the normal 7530 and 7530AX which confuses me…

  • Hi roseycheeks931.Which cheap AliExpress router did you use for OpnSense.Thanks.

    • One similar to this

  • Thanks for that roseycheeks931.
