  • This is primarily designed to prevent someone picking the lock (or using another key) while you're inside, presumably asleep, and stealing something?

    • +5

I picked one of these up years ago.

It basically mechanically holds the door shut via the hole in the frame where the latch goes into.
It completely bypasses the lock mechanism.

However, because of the way it works, it has a few caveats.
It's been a while, but from memory it'll only work if the door opens inwards, and if the gap between the door and the frame is big enough to fit it.

      • +17

correct, only works for doors opening inwards. alternatively, if the door opens outwards, you can use this to lock someone in - with their consent of course. or not mwahaha

  • Do you have any ones in hard plastic? Most hotel doors can detect this and will prevent you from locking the door.

    • +1

how do they prevent your from locking a door?

      • +1

The door is fitted with an alarm/buzzer which makes the sound when I try to use the qicklock

You can use the lock to delay the police (by like 2 seconds) while you cook your steaks with the parking timer.

    • Great. I can finally take that Indian holiday without fear of Hindu police breaking the door down because I'm cooking steak.

I bought a pair of these back in 2014, and have used it to stop an overly-enthusiastic cleaner coming in to a hotel room while I was in the shower.

(Seriously, I got a discount on the booking because I wasn't getting a cleaner every day, and I had the "Door Not Disturb" sign on the door… and they still tried to barge in. I got my six buck's worth that day.)

  • OP username so checks out

they came, but I had a Qicklock

Rusty, why not make this with stainless steel with a higher price

Website is quite vague. Luckily people are sharing their experiences

    • second that. Just couldn't understand how this could be used and what kind of doors by looking at their website

    Scrap metal

Can also use a door wedge

I purchased one of these about 6 years back and have been using the same one since then. It does the job and hasn’t rusted or anything - so I’d say the quality is pretty good.

    • How do you have a need for this so much? A lot of Travel?

      • +2

On and off whenever I or my family members are traveling. It’s basically metal so unless you deliberately try to damage it, it’ll probably last forever. You just have to make sure not to lose the tiny cylinder thingey, or it’s rendered useless.

  • Any products if my door opens outwards?

    While taking about locks,
    Anyone able to suggest
Where I can find a cheap locksmith in Sydney northwest to install a smart lock?
How much it may cost for new installation?
    Thanks

This product has one fatal flaw:
    Its often forgotten at home!

    Other than that works great.

One more that the small studd is not attached to main unit with chain or thread… Studd will b lost over the me.

      • ^ this.

This was requested of the manufacturer many years ago,
to attach a chain to the peg, because the peg is very, easy to lose.

(if to keep the manufacturing/milling costs low,
to at least create the provision to attach a link with the peg,
eg. with a small hole so the owner can add their own string/chain ).

I’ve got one of these. Bought it about 5 years ago. I’ve used it only once or twice, but it was well worth the price each time I used it.

  • Bought one, thanks OP! small price to pay for a potential increase in security for locking the house up going on trips etc, delivered.
    Cheers

  • I bought years ago, works well for hotel rooms in most cases.
I think there was one case where it didn't quite fit well in the lock/cavity, so I used a chair behind the door instead.
Worth buying if you don't have one and will travel.

    Thanks Rep
Bought 1 just to support Aussie business

    • Support an Aussie business? There is a photo on the website that clearly shows that these are “Made in China.”

      • The lock is designed by Aussie and the business is run by Aussie. Product was made in China doesn’t means they are not Aussie business

        • +1

Supporting business using slave labour since 90s

  • Now make one for those terrible supermarket toilets with electric sliding doors… The number of people who drop their pants, sit down, then the next person pushes the open button sliding back this huge glass door for everyone to see the first person - and only then they realise what they should have done, but now can't reach the lock button so it opens another 20 times to drive the lesson home… is crazy.

They could just be exhibitionists and the whole thing done on purpose

      • Not according to the shock on their faces, lol.

I've used one very successfully to keep the kids out of the master bedroom. Great purchase.

    • +1

      What were you doing?

    • I'm using it for the same thing, it works great.

If you have too narrow gap between door and door frame it won't close.

      • What is this “thing” you speak of?

  • Just ordered it, I didn't know about this type of lock before. Thanks

  • Great product. Gives me peace of mind whilst sleeping at Airbnb’s and hotels. Had one for years and definitely not rusty.

  • Would this be useful for a french door?

    • -1
