Noticed today Commonwealth Bank are offering eligible card holders 30% off for 12 months on ‘MORE mobile SIM only Plans’ (uses the Telstra Network)

Seems a good deal and only available in select stores. I picked up a SIM for free from Macquarie Centre (NSW) branch today.

not a dupe, the other deal is for NBN, not mobile services

      • +68

Maybe I should READ before posting.

      • I fell for it too; I agree, it's not a dupe, but needs clearer info. E.g. Body of deal doesn't really mention it's on mobile except for the fact that says Telstra Network, and even then you could argue that it was referencing the NBN.

        I think

12 months on ‘MORE Telecom’ (uses the Telstra Network)

        Should read something like:

12 months on ‘MORE mobile SIM only Plans’ (uses the Telstra Network)

Just make it clear that it's for mobile.

        • +2

          Thank you. Updated body

          • +2

            @Downtheway:

            Updated body

            Is that you Elle ?

  • +5

If they have the same customer service as the NBN team, I’d give them a miss.

  • +14

Why would you get this over Boost 140GB for <$150?

    • -4

not $150 if u have to take into account the cost of porting out.
still work out marginally cheaper than MORE.

      • +14

Huh? Unless your on a contract and you decide to terminate it early, there shouldn't be any costs.

Who are you with that you're getting charged to port out?

        • TPG charges a port out fee

          • @spaceflight: Still? 😯 Even after merging with Vodafone. WOW! I would have thought they would have gotten rid of that by now. No wonder I'm still a TPG hater 😅.

I think their only retail product that is value for money is their FTTB if it's available at your location and only if they still don't enforce the speed limits on it.

I have to say though, not sure how you're calculating it. Port out fee is currently $11 so taking into account with the Boost example above, it would be $161 ($150+$11), divide it by 12 and you get ~$13.41 per month.

Honestly the Port out fee should go against the TPG plan you're porting out of and not the new plan you're porting too.

Boost's $13.41 for 11.6GB a month works out better than More Telecom's small plan. To top it off you get the proper Telstra network and VoLTE and VoWIFI with Boost. The only thing is that you've prepaid for your yearly service, some people struggle with that for various reasons.

      • The cost of porting out? Please explain.

    • Comparing this to Boost is not fair comparison as the 22GB More plan also has unlimited international calls to 15 countries

      • Okay?? A lot of people don't require that, and Boost includes a generous 1200 mins standard calls to 30 selected destinations + 1200 standard texts to any country.

        • I understand everyone has different needs and what I am trying to say is, its not comparing apples to apples. Just because a lot of people dont need unlimited international calls, doesnt mean its useless.

          • @tenoclockfindu: Yes, so what exactly was your original point then? How is it not a fair comparison, considering unlimited international calls is not a feature everyone needs? Why did you feel the need to say I shouldn't have compared it to another product? I'd go as far as saying it's now a particularly niche feature in the age of internet calls.

I could go on and say that Boost's products are in a completely different league to More's products because it uses the full Telstra 4GX network with the largest coverage in the country, unlike any other MVNO. Therefore a More to Boost comparison isn't apples to apples. That doesn't mean you can't compare them.

    Telstra wholesale

  • +4

Had a terrible experience with their customer service team from NBN, wouldn't touch

    • Same here.
      Wouldn’t never go with More!!

    • I've haven't had to contact customer service for any telco in years, so this doesn't bother me, but I just don't see this as any better than other deals out there, and without the need of being with CBA.

    • +1

Thought I would throw in my 2c.

Signed up on the Saturday. Internet wasn't working Monday arvo, assumed because of change over to More. Called them up, no hold time, nice person clarified internet was active, but I haven't updated router credentials.

      Did that, all working smoothly.

Sim card for mobile came express on the Tuesday.

Been very impressed with speed of connection and customer service team.

    • I’ve only had to contact them a couple of times and found the service good. Also follow up by then to check that issues were resolved.

  • +1

Their nbn is quite cheap so planning to switch heard good and bad things but i guess it depends on the person.
But this mobile sim plan is not a deal

    • +4

      heard good and bad things

My current speed with them during peak

      Download: 255.85 Mbps
      Upload: 23.50 Mbps
      Ping: 2 ms
      Connection Type: Ethernet
      Server: TasmaNet Pty Ltd

      • This is your connection with More NBN right?

        • Yes… Have been with them a few months now.

          • @jv: Thanks - ready to move. Ping is great. TPG are farting me around with the FTTC to FTTP upgrade process. No clear date anytime soon.
            I'm over them.

            • @wetwork:

TPG are farting me around with the FTTC to FTTP upgrade process.

More sent me a confirmed appointment as soon as I applied, 2 weeks after application all done.

              • @jv: Tpg are still deciding on having a process or they prefer you use their mobile network?

                • +2

                  @wetwork: It's a no brainer… $83.30 for 250/25 for 12 months…

How much is TPG for the same speed?

If you switch provider after upgrading to FTTP within 12 months, you'll be charged an extra $200 most likely.

                  • @jv: Ta - you've made my mind up for me.

            • @wetwork: 2 - 4 ms ping on FttP is standard for most RSP's.
I've been with Superloop, Vodafone NBN, Aussie BB and Exetel on fibre and the ping hasn't changed.
A shame More doesn't have the 1000/50 speed tier.

      • Same I get them speeds

  • still on Boost but this is a good deal! Will be even better if has eSim.

  • +1

Just use Belong. Can get $15 a month without need for 30% off.

    • +1

Personal experience: Belong's customer service is the worst of worst in Australia…

      • Roger that, were with them for 2 years. When the connection was good, no problems. But as soon as you had to interact with where ever the call centre was it was a nightmare. The operators knew nothing about IT or how the NBN works, issues that should have been resolved in 48 hours took 6 weeks.

  • -3

More was absolute rubbish with their nbn. Don't even bother with them

    • +1

      How so?
Curious as thinking of joining with them

      • +7

Join them don’t believe what others say it’s all different for everyone

        • Yeah, you'll find negative reviews for every (telco) business that exists. It you listened to every negative review you'd never connect to any of them.
It's also rare for people to voluntarily come forward and say something positive.

      • +1

my experience hasn't been good too. They will try every trick in the book to blame it on you and according to them on a 50mbps plan the speed is good if i get more than 25 mbps. They made me repeat the speed tests thrice because I couldn't get more than 20 mbps twice. so yes they can be bad.

        • +1

          a plus 1 for thrice

      • they couldn't connect me to their network. 3 days no internet. switched back to old provider and was good instantly. customer service based overseas and their english/technical knowledge not up to par

      • Had a really good experience with more nbn - with them now for close to 6 months - good speeds - never had to call customer care

    • +2

      *in your experience

  • +2

Love their NBN deal I get the speeds on a 250Mbps plan I get 260Mbps speeds all day long no problem at all might give this deal a go anything is better then Vodafone Crap

    • -1

Likewise. I was actually getting 100 up too for a month or two till they must have clicked….. Damn it.

  • +3

Been on Woolies slowly adding to my data bank so don't know if I wanna switch for that reason alone. Otherwise would immediately.

Use them for NBN atm with no issues.

  • I would have considered moving except I just renewed with boost last week! I am with them for NBN on the lowest plan (25/10) with the discount and have had zero issues. Ping is 10

    • What NBN technology are you on? That makes a huge difference to the ping.
I'm guessing HFC or FttN for a 10ms ping.

      • FttC for this

  • +2

would this be single bill for both nbn and phone if joining up with them?
i'm already on the nbn deal and this makes sense moving from 2x $40pm optus plans for combined 40gb.. a nice lil saving

  • Interesting, do you have to visit their store or can you order online? Their higher data plans are appealing. My other half has chewed thru their 300gb Boost in 9mths. $26.60/42Gb seems excellent value on Telstra (4g) network.

    • From what the staff member told me, it’s just select CBA stores offering for now (not sure of the list of branches). I don’t think the CBA team know/offer much - just marketing in branch as an offer to CBA customers but is a MORE product.

      • +1

More isn't even a real brand, just white label for Tangerine

        • +1

They are the same company AFAIK, so that makes sense.

You could say the same about any brand uses Telstra, Vodafone and Optus for mobiles given there are only 3 networks.

          • @SimAus007: In this case more is just set up for CBA deals. Their prices without the discount is very high. Most customers would move after it finishes.

            • +1

@silenthillrocks: I'm with tangerine and never had a problem. Asked them to price match more as same company and wouldn't so off to switch I go. Saves $17 or so a month or I could get 100mbps for same price as 50 with tango.

  • Does anyone see the 100GB sim plan on the website at all? Don't see it? :/

    • Yep, swipe across, just past the r2Gb (4g) plan

    • +1

Click on the right arrow next to the 42GB Plan.

    • Ah yes found it, only available for 3G/4G. Hoping it was available for 5G too,

  • +2

Just an FYI for everyone, doesn't use the full Telstra network. Boost is the only cheap alternative that uses the full network (including 5g at least for the time being)

    • That time is now

      more mobile™
great new sim only mobile plans
4G and 5G SIM only plans with no lock-in contract.
Using parts of Telstra's 5G (for 5G plans only), 4G and 3G mobile network.

      • +1

I was referring to the fact Boost is trailing 5g and it may end soon. They are still the only provider to have access to the full network including the full 5g network.

        • +1

There's currently no end date for the boost trial. I'm thinking it's a permanent trial.

          • +1

@silenthillrocks: I am sure they will start charging for it at some point, only having it on the higher tiers. But would be nice if it stayed

  • VoLTE & VoWiFi support?

  • Can I order an eSim with this?

  • +2

Pretty sure it's only 150 a year with catch mobile for 120gb so these aren't deals. Quite expensive really for wholesale provider

  • I can't live without VoWifi.
It allows me to make calls in marginal coverage areas when there is wifi available and overseas.

  • Boost or bust

  • +1

Signed up with them through this deal thanks!
I'm waiting for the coveted $59 JB deal but wanted to stay on Telstra and I think this is the best value for their small plan. Boost and Belong aren't eligible to be transferred over to the JB deals.
