    Now that's hard core!

Out of curiosity, what tab-less cans are you opening so often that the standard can opener doesn't last?

    • There's not many hey, I think my Coconut cream (Thai food) is about the only can I have to open by hand and thats probably only because I'm too tight to buy the more expensive brand!

I find it easier to use the fashioned tinnie opener with my coconut cream. You just punch a hole on one side, then one in the opposite, and pour it out. No mess, no need to deal with a sharp tin lid after.

        • This 100%. Just pierce one side and pry it open a little and then pop a hole on the opposite side to allow air to pass through.

I just use my knife to do it but if you want a dedicated device look up a "Church key can opener".

        • But you're losing so much of the yummy cream in the can! I always have to lick the lid (carefully).

I think larger sized cans don't have tabs. Like the big cans of peaches or fruit salad.

Would also be handy in a pinch if the ring comes off your pudding can and no one's around to lend you a penknife.

      • I don't think I've ever seen the larger cans with a pull.

I heard these things are awfully loud but apparently they open cans as softly as a cloud.

Is there a chance the can could bend?

    • And 5$ off for eBay plus members

  • I only first found the Vevor website yesterday randomly. Who are they? What segment are in (premium? Ozito-level? Reject-shop?)

    • Chinese company, I have a food press and it seems decent quality for the price.

    • It looks like a generic dropshipping company (considering glennh70 has found an identical-looking product on eBay, and the shipping page shows they ship globally.
The domain is registered to Shanghai Sishun E-commerce Co., Ltd.

I bought some cable ramps from them and their brand was moulded into the product itself so they're not just a generic dropshipper who sells generic unbranded products, at least for those ramps. It's not a sticker or printed on, it's built into the mold for the product.

That's not to say their quality is definitely higher than generic products, it just means they put a bit more effort in, at least for those ramps.

Bonzer are the go to in commercial can openers.

  • Your cafe supply cans don't have tab. If you churn a lot, this is worth it.

  • I havent bought $54.99 worth of can that need can opener in my life but I have thought for 2 sec as all my can openers are one time use

I used to use something like this when I worked in our local deli. They're BIG. Definitely not something that many people would want as a permanent attachment to their kitchen worktop. They'll rip through a commercial sized tin of corned beef with ease, but they're going to be a topic of conversation for everyone that comes into your kitchen, probably along the lines of "what on earth did you buy that monstrosity for?"

You'll probably be catching your clothes on it every time you walk past too as it hangs off the edge of the worktop.

And here is me still using my 20+ year old standard army ration pack can opener.

    • Quickest way to open them if you know what you’re doing

Gonna buy this just to flex on all my handheld-can-opening loser mates

  • Surely Ozbargainers can recommend a hand held that lasts longer than a year?

    • I've had ones last for decades. But I look after my stuff.

      • My parent's MagiCan from the early eighties is still going strong. My one I bought a little while ago was a POS from day 1.

  • this would also be good for people with arthritis? (asking for future me)

yes, it has more leverage for same work meaning less physical work. the hardest part is slamming it down to puncuture can.
