We at OzBargain is getting ready to make the latest T-shirts for this year — hopefully to be given out to those who come to meetup events to celebrate OzBargain's 16th birthday in November (announcement later this month). We just need designs. I sketched up a Bikes design last week (as there were some lawyers who thought someone was equating them with criminal figures without realising it was just a meme). However I doubt many would wear that in the public.
So here we go — a T-shirt design competition for our upcoming shirts. We also ran one in 2020 and 2017, and we are upping the prize this time to $600 for the winner, $500 and $400 for the runner ups, and $50 gift cards to the next best 10 entries.
To enter, send us your design (email [email protected]) by the end of this month. The moderation team will judge all the entries and will come up with the winners by 7 Oct, and hopefully the shirts will be made for November.

Terms and Conditions
Duration
- Competition closes on 30 September 2022 at 11:59PM. All entries must be submitted before the closing date.
- Moderators may take up to a week to discuss and rate the entries, winners will be announced on 7 October 2022.
Eligibility
- The entrant must be an OzBargain member with an active OzBargain account who currently resides in Australia.
- OzBargain employees are ineligible.
- Overseas members are ineligible.
Design Guidelines
- For the back of T-shirt with a maximum size of 30x30cm. Colour of the T-shirt can be either orange, black or dark colour (i.e. don't design for a light colour T-shirt unless it's orange).
- Illustration and/or words that an OzBargainer would proudly wear in public.
- Screen printing will be used, so less colour the better. Preferably just black or white (to be printed on top of colour of the T-shirt). Line arts would be preferred.
- Using copyright content without permission will result in invalidation of your entry, please only submit original works. You are permitted to use OzBargain logo in your designs.
- Theme: something that OzBargainers will recognise

Method of Entry
- Feel free to discuss the competition in this competition post. However, do not submit your design in the comments (unless you are happy to lend your ideas to others).
- You can email your designs to [email protected] with title "T-Shirt Competition Entry from <OzBargain username>". SVG, PNG or JPEG are fine. Feel free to include an explanation for the design.
- Maximum 2 entries per user, and maximum 1 prize per user. We got someone submitting 17 designs last time (and none are very good). We much prefer you submitting one or two good design, then dumping every single idea you got.
Prizes
- 1x $600 PayPal funds (or gift card from GiftPay) for the winning entry.
- 1x $500 & 1x $400 PayPal funds (or gift card from GiftPay) for the 2 runner ups.
- 10x $50 gift card from GiftPay for the next top 10 participants.
- Free T-shirts for all 13 winners after they have been manufactured.

OP, from the 2017 T-shirt design competition, you included this in the description:
Basically a black & white OzBargain logo will occupy the front of the T-shirt, but the back awaits your witty design that best represents OzBargain.
Is this the same case for this year's? In the emails I sent, I did make reference to having the designs on either back or front as I wasn't sure what would be on the front even though you did mention 'For the back of T-shirt with a maximum size of 30x30cm'. Thanks.
The front of the T-shirt would be the standard OzBargain logo. So the competition is more for the design for the back of the T-shirt.
I will have a go at this one.

Do the winning entrants assign the copyright of the designs to OzBargain, or license it?
OzBargain will license the right to use the design for the next print. We'll contact if more prints are needed.
Fair question but do you really think any one submitted design will be so valuable as to make licensing an issue?
Maybe if they did a OzBargain/Patagonia/RM collab?
What if Kayne West buys one of the shirts and suddenly it becomes the hottest fashion item of the year.

Winner announcement time! First of all,
How do we work out the winners?
All 215 entries from 145 users are presented on a single page, and each moderator can give an entry a score between 0 and 5. We then sort all the entries from the sum of all moderators' scores to work out the winners.

Here is the list of top 20 entries. Instead of 3 cash prizes + 10x $50 gift cards, I have decided to give the $50 gift cards to all participants in the top 20 entries that did not win a prize. So, here are the winners:
Note — there are 18 winners (instead of 20) as some have more than 1 designs that made to the top 20 entries. I will contact the winners via email. We'll also take designstudent's entry for our next T-shirt print. I'll work with designstudent to work out the best approach, but there's a possibility that it will be on the front of the T-shirt, as the word OZBARGAIN is already featured prominently. Hopefully the T-shirts will be ready for the OzBargain16 meetups in November.
