Not bad, not much contrast on those hands and dial.
    Hardlex..
Wouldn't mind a mojito cocktail if they were available on sale..

    • +4

      Nothing wrong with Hardlex.

My 12 year old SKX has hardlex and i have banged that against so many things.

And doesnt even have any scratches either.

And those dials and hands are fine.

Its a dress watch, it's not meant to stick out at you like a sore thumb

      • +4

Look after your SKX, it's a collectable now.

        • Although you can easily get all the parts to repair and upgrade, these are probably the best mod projects:P.

      • +2

Yeah tha'ts cool, it's all about scratch vs shatter - hardlex aimed at non-shatter for diving but it's the type of mod/upgrade I'd do anyway (particularly if the anti-reflective coating is better too?), or wait till/if gets scratched.

I'm just saying , The main takeaway is that for a $600-700 watch, seiko should really be providing sapphire crystal. Can get a heap more value and specs these days with other offerings. No need to settle for rattly cheap bracelets with hollow end links, cheap clasps, no sapphire etc.

Dress watches are a big category, I'm just saying as long as it's legible - otherwise defeats the purpose.

          Your comment makes no sense.

Its on sale for $330, not 600-700.

No one pays retail for Seiko.

As I said before, the hardlex does a great job and I personally havent had any issues with it.
In fact my sapphire on my Tudor has had a scratch already and its newer.

          • -1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Iv had an issue. I have the presage cocktail, brown watch. Scratched in my first 6 months of use. Not a fan of hardlex anymore.
Iv switched over to a Samsung watch 4 instead now

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: MATE. Saying $330 is a good price.
Was talking about their RRP of $675.00 - No one in their right mind would (or should) pay that.
It's a lot to charge for the spec, and mostly running on brand recognition.
            Make sense?

            • @G-rig: my feeling about mineral is that you have a limited number of watches you can buy in your life and a limited number of watches you can wear

and for $300 i wouldnt accept mineral and really, a $300 seiko is nothing special

in the same way i dont have any time for quartz (lol) so i dont buy them

seiko doesnt want to provide value, they arent a value brand… they're pushing prices up and up but not providing value components

              good luck to them

              • @tonyjzx: Yeh should always buy sapphire.. buy once and buy right.
Anyway depends what you want, one omega or 6-10 other watches. Don't mind a variety and different styles in the watch Box.

    • The contrast is a little better outside of the product shots. The hands and indices are high-polish silver, while the dial is more of a brushed texture, so under light the dial stays more or less the same while the hands and indices reflect whatever light is shining on them.

Starbuy should really invest in professional photographer. They look way better on the wrist

        • +4

They use the official photos supplied by the manufacturer, so if anyone sucks its Seiko at photography.

          • @garetz: Unfortunately it's not as simple as that. I have a SRPE39K, and the dial has about three layers of texture that changes depending on whether it's its in sunlight, artificial light, and bright or dark environments. Under bright sunlight, the blue under-layer and the manta rays really pop out, with the gauche texturing adding small sparkles over the top. But under bright LED lights the small sparkles turn into big sparkles, and almost completely obscure the manta rays but still allows the under colour to come through. But then if you turn down those lights the under colour darkens and the sparkles lessen, but the manta rays suddenly pop again, creating an entirely new texture.

So getting a real-life photo of it for a product shot is incredibly hard. It's better to create a render that shows the closest approximation rather than try to capture three or four different textures all at the same time.

Yeah that sounds alright, must be their rubbish photos mostly.

I've got a cheap seiko 5, SNKL23. Has shiny dorphine hands on darkish textured background. I was toying on upgrading the glass, mostly to try and cut down reflections and sapphire in a purple or blue would look ok. Bit too much investment I think, particularly when most parts have to come from o/s like UK etc. it's nice watch but old movement as well.

Prouds also have it for $335 if you want to buy it in store.

    • Can use Prouds e-gift cards too (via shopback) for an extra 4% off

  • Great price, this is a really beautiful watch especially in the sun

  • +2

It’s a beautiful watch. If you get this, get yourself a nice leather strap, looks so much nicer on leather than the bracelet because it makes the dial shine

    An interesting review

    • +1

A great review. I have Seikos and I like them, but I'm with the reviewer - Seiko really are trying to f—k us in the a-s with their pricing.

      • it's still a great looking watch. I paid more for a seiko zen garden open heart and I still love looking at it a year on from purchase. I just see it as an under $500 watch obrand that looks stylish without the name or prestige of a more expensive basic white collar worker watch like a Tag.

        • +1

There are so many brands now offering much better specs for as much or even less $ that I think they are just relying on their name to justify higher prices. Paying more than $500 for many of their models now is only if you're a true Seiko fan IMHO. Or if you're a modder of course, they are great for projects.

          • +1

@martygeeoz: haha, paying over $500 just means ur a sucker :D

      • Seiko really are trying to f—k us in the a-s with their pricing.

How do you think you could build a watch like this for?

    • Agree that with dress watches they should be a bit smaller. depends how big ya wrists are of course too.
Another reason i was considering to upgrade my SNKL23 movement + sapphire as it's 38mm.

    • Those nails!

  • What's postage time like for starbuy?

    • +2

They are pretty good with shipping. Can't remember exactly but probably 2-3 days Sydney to Melbourne for e.g.

      Good price

    • Normally very good, but can be delayed a little bit if they've had a lot of orders but YPMV!

  • Great price

  • Ozb'd!

I've got a sarb065 which is the original version of this watch sans bracelet. It's fantastic.

The cocktail time series is also largely about the unique dial and design rather than the specs.

Hardlex works just fine and the 4r35 movement is a reliable workhorse that is basically the 6r15 without the power reserve.

If it tickles your fancy for 300 odd bucks I would buy this.

    • +2

Good work! The SARB065 looks better than this. I mean the differences are subtle but I prefer the 65’s aesthetic. I also think the old GS Snow Flake looks nicer than the current one

      • +1

Oh yeah not to be a cork sniffer but the 65 is the better version for sure. But the recent cocktails are still good watches and the sunburst dial is amazing in the flesh.

I have the green version of this and it's lovely

  • Very sad. Missed out.

  • I have the blue version of this, wasn't my favourite until I changed it to a blue leather strap.
