This offer last forever, good looking frames are above $199 per two pairs

    • +7

"any pair storewide" would suggest different

      • Yeah I added a $299 and $349 pair and the total came to $199 once I put the code in.

  • How would this work in store?

    • +3

I got this exact offer instore like 2 months ago, I'm 99.99% they'll have it instore with signs plastered everywhere.

  • +1

Depending on your requirements and if you have good PHI their other deals (free polarised/ultraclear super clean) can be the better deal I think. Your frame selection would be a lot more limited though.

    • +1

      This.

I got this same offer back in May and even though the frames are a more expensive brand, I now think I would have been better off getting upgrades on lenses rather than cheap lenses with expensive frames.

  • +1

Try them on in store, take the model numbers down, order online, use code, pay $199

    ??

    • Maybe ask in store. I think I remember seeing a sign regarding this deal when I picked up my glasses recently.

Edit: The post does say in-store too.

      • +1

        Definitely in store as well

  • Definately in store . got 2 pairs of the $399 rimless for $199 plus 20% off lens treatment

    • +6

recently I've noticed a lot of ozbargainers using the spelling "Definately".

      Should've gone to Specsavers

  • No gucci no deal imo

  • +9

I work at speccies and thought I should also let y'all know that if you choose the rimless (normally $399 frames) they come with the free Ultraclear Superclean (antiglare) and the first level of thinning (1.60). Though they aren't the most aesthetic, you could probably let an older family member know about this and have them save heaps on glasses.

    • Is there no way to order two different prescription glasses? trying to get one pair for distance and one for reading but it automatically makes both the same.

      • +1

I believe when you select the frames it'll ask if the pair your choosing is for distance or reading. If you select the reading, it'll ask you to type in the prescription along with the reading-add. Hopefully that helps :)

        • Yeah, does that for the first pair but skips it on the second and automatically adds the first prescription. Thanks for the help, i ll just pop in to the local store tomorrow

          • +3

@dosada: Ooh yeah, I just tried it myself. Very odd how you can't change it, definitely have to head in store then unfortunately

    • thanks for clarifying things

    • +2

Last time the $199 deal was on the local store said it didn't apply to the rimless.
Is this deal any different ?

      • others are saying the rimless are included

    • +1

      What about the half rimless?

    • Do you know what the default Specsavers lens index is?

      • +1

        Default lens index is 1.50

    • Tried ordering them online but don’t seem be to able to do so ! Says can’t order online

    • +1

Does this mean if you have $200 from health insurance you can get 2 pairs completely free? My bad in advance if I am misunderstanding something here.

      • 100% correct as long as they have prescription inside and assuming you don't want any coatings :))

    • I'd be so afraid of breaking them. How resistant they are?

      • It's pretty hard to scratch the lenses and break the frames imo. It's something you won't have to worry about unless it's for a child or you do work that's really hands on. Even then, there'll be some really nice durable frames you can get. My personal favourite would be the turboflex frames, I have yet to have a single person come in to have those repaired so definitely give that a try if you're worried!

    • My local Specsavers told me that the rimless aren't included in the deal, has that since changed?

      • Not sure which Specsavers that is but all Specsavers should be including rimless in the deals. I know my store is at least. If they're really not gonna honour it, try another Specsavers. It's probably because the deal is so insanely cheap with the thinning and the free antireflective coating on the glasses and stores not being able to profit much from it.

        • They pulled out a photocopied memo in my local store that stated rimless aren't included in the offer (which was highlighted) on the page..

I guess they've had a few enquiries so they were prepared.

  • +1

Although my last pair of glasses was from
spec savers (thanks to private health cost $0), I just bought a pair of glasses from
    clearly, for $14.

  • +4

Eyebuydirect is cheaper. Bought two pairs for under $100, I didn't like one of the frames and they let me keep it and get another for free. 24/7 chat assistance too.

Last pair was OPSM's buy two for $Y "specials". Don't like being ripped off by the frame duopoly market in Aus anymore.

    • +2

I bought from Zenni once, never again, cheap and the handle broke.

      • +4

Had the opposite experience. Bought 4 pairs recently and all have been excellent.

  • +2

I buy mine from Zenni. Use their virtual try on.

    • +1

I like Zenni too. Although they 'retired' my favourite sunnies. So annoying

  • +1

My last 4 pairs of Oakley prescription came from UK for about $100+ delivered. Can't remember where, maybe vision direct. Have always been happy with the speed of delivery and price.
Time for new glasses, with new updated prescription.

I did grab a real cheap pair of $39 single vision glasses from SpecSavers, as a throw in the car back up pair, and at $39 they are over priced for the quality of these.

I'm looking for a wrap around style/safety spec style of glasses for work, the Specsavers JCB brand, I currently have and keep at work and at $399 for transitions lenses, I should definitely be able to get something more stylish and comfortable and better fitting for that price.

    Any suggestions?

  • +2

In store is better as you also get 20% off Lens Options (e.g., thinner lenses, polarising, reactions/transitions, UltraClear SuperClean anti-reflective coating, etc.).

    • Yep got my instore - saved $20 each on the polarising lens

  • +1

Excuse my ignorance but if I have $200 optical cover with health insurance does this deal make it free?

I haven’t bought new glasses in years so I can’t remember how health cover works when buying glasses.

    • +2

      Yes, it does.

    • +1

Your private health insurance will cover $200 per person per year in glasses, including prescription sunnies, including kids. Might as well use it since insurance premiums are not cheap

  • +4

Is this just me or this business is the most unsustainable one ? I tried getting my lens changed for a frame purchased a year ago and cost me almost the same or infact more than these deals at Specsavers ? In a world where we are moving towards sustainability why wouldn’t they replace just the lena for super cheap . I suspect this is due to health funds unloading around 200 aud every year. This is such a shame in my view . Makes me wonder if the frames are worth anything?

    • +3

Don't understand this either. Cheaper to buy completely new frames and lenses, than just the lens on a prescription change on quality frames

    • +3

Yeah agreed. Specsavers charge $90 from memory for putting new lens in existing frames. No effort at sustainability at all. They should offer it cheaper when they're their own frames and within a certain period since purchase.

      • Its a "green" tax. Recycled paper costs more, free range costs more, carbon neutral cost more…

    • Optically is cheaper. I haven't used them but saw in Whirlpool.

  • may be better to buy from lenskart

    • I want to but pupil distance is confusing. How do you do that if the prescription doesn’t give it

  • Any idea on cost for multifocals?

  • I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but do you have to need glasses for this deal? I am only very slighty long sighted and have never bothered getting a script but would love some decent sunglasses. Can I get the offer without the prescription or do I need to get reading glasses first? Thanks brains trust

    • You can buy 2 pairs of sunglasses as well. They will charge you extra to add polarization filter, but they're giving 20% discount on that as well.

  • What's the best option for photochromic lens?

    • You can add photochromatic lens for extra $80 per pair of glasses at spec savers

    • +2

Make sure u consider as slightly larger size frame to block the sun when outside. Dont make the same mistake i did and get a good looking optical frame but doesnt block enough when outside

  • great deal! ordered glasses and sunnies today, OOP was $120 single vision with antiglare

  • Do you have a link to the tint options?

  • How do we obtain pupil distance details if we want to buy frames at a different store? Ive always bought glasses from OPSM as I did my first eye exam there but they're too expensive, and my prescription details via OPSM online account doesn't show the pupil distance. TIA.

    • +1

You can either call OPSM and ask for the PDs or come in store to Specsavers and ask staff to measure it for you :)

      • Thanks got my two pairs today 😁

  • +1

Went into my local SpecSavers yesterday.

The range on display, was pretty dismal. And what they did have to look at, was pretty average to below average.

Might stick with ordering online, if I can't see anything half decent in store SpecSavers

  • Hi OP,

Is 20% off the standard or usual discount? Or do you have larger discounts around Christmas time?

I went to Specsavers and got a $550 quote for 2 glasses, even with Private insurance, still a lot of $ out of pocket.

    • Do you have a quote to share ?

  • +1

    Hi!
Can I ask for a bit more info on what they quoted you specifically? I'm guessing it is the multifocals that they are currently quoting you for. In my experience, we don't have promotions for multifocals (usually it is for the Ultraclear Superclean or Polarised or the frames, like in this case). The current promotion is definitely the best deal I have seen so far.

    • Yes it was multifocals, although is a minimum amount the optometrist recommended it along with other coatings.

      Thanks for your feedback.

  • Last time I tried to buy glasses online through specsavers my PHI gimped me. Usually instore I get the full $200 on 2x pairs but for whatever reason because the SS invoice said 1x pair invoice, 2nd pair free BUPA didn't pay out the full lot so I was out of pocket. Anyone else know how to get around this?

  • The add-ons is where they get ya, nearly $500
