Miyoo Mini V2 Handheld Game Console - White US$57.80 (~A$86.22) Delivered @ MIYOO Official Store AliExpress

410
9SEPT6

This handheld game console was very popular last time and sold out. Now the seller has more stock with the white on sale for the same US$ price as before. Unfortunately the exchange rate isn't as good this time and the black version costs more.

The Miyoo Mini has a proper 4:3 display ratio for retro games and can emulate games up to the PS1. The V2 version improves upon the original by offering a fully laminated display, a larger 2000mAh removable battery and a storage bag.

The handheld runs Linux with RetroArch and classic emulators included which support PS1, CPS1, CPS2, CPS3, FBA, GBA, GBC, GB, SFC, FC, MD, SMS, GG, MEOGEO, PCE, WSC and more. It has a 2.8" 640x480 IPS display, microSD card support, removable 2000mAh battery offering 5 hours of playtime, speaker, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C for charging and a vibration motor. For the controls there's a dpad, ABXY buttons, select/start, R1/R2 and L1/L2.

If you're not a fan of the included Linux OS then there's community distros available like OnionOS offering plenty of improvements.

Love these things, have well over a dozen of them, but there is so many cheaper and better options out there.

Assuming this deal doesn't get taken down, I may even list a few when we come back from the movies tonight. But yeah, not worth that cost for PS1 and older emulation. That price I'd be expecting SOLID PSP and DC emu MINIMUM.

    • +17

Would love to see that list, I am very tempted by this.

      • +1

        Same here.

        • I Also

          • +1

@191919: Me too. Keen for really something to just run GBA/GBC games.

            • +2

@v00d00 AU: The Powkiddy v90 or q90 will be the cheapest half decent option for those.

              • @PainToad: I really want a v90 just for the form factor. Looks like a cool device to just keep at the bottom of your bag for an opportune moment.

            • @v00d00 AU: It's a little more expensive but I love my Anbernic RG351P. It has the same 3:2 aspect ratio screen with a higher resolution so GBA games run at 2x res perfectly.

The aspect ratio though doesn't lend itself well to 4:3 aspect systems though.

Russ from Retro Game Corps is the only opinion that you should listen to. Or maybe ETA Prime.

        • thanks for sharing. may i know where nintendo switch v1 sits on that spreadsheet? i mean is it similar with which device in term of performance? i know need to mod switch so it can run roms, but i just curious about the cpu performance not the built or others

          • +1

@CyberMurning: The Switch is in the OEM sheet - use the tabs at the bottom.

          • @CyberMurning: I'm no expert, but I've heard that people have modded Switch to run Android and that it seems pretty good? It's a bit too complex for me (took me long enough to mod my 3DS, which is far easier).

        • +4

thanks! i forgive you for this third degree burn

    • +2

would love to hear what you recommend.

    • +5

Assuming this deal doesn't get taken down,

It won't. There's no included games so there's nothing illegal about it.

      • +1

        Thanks for making that clear.

    • +7

That price I'd be expecting SOLID PSP and DC emu MINIMUM.

Lol. You're not going to get "solid" PSP and DreamCast for under $90. You will get devices that can run some games at semi-decent fps.

      • +1

yep - 351mp is flat out doing it at sub $200 bracket let alone $87

        • +1

The 351V has the same internals as the MP and is a lot cheaper than $200, but yeah still not cheaper than $87.

      • +1

The RK2020 had what I'd consider solid performance on both. I got my first one for free, and then bought the second one for around 50 bucks a bit over a year ago. By solid, I got Spider-Man 3 (notoriously cunty to emulate for me) to run at playable speeds with about 3 frame skip, Vice and Liberty City Stories running fine with 1FPS skip, Battlefront 2 and Lego Star Wars, both fine. Dreamcast I had Sonic Adventure and Tony Hawk 2 full speed, Dead or Alive 2 wouldn't boot but otherwise it was great, perfect for Quake 3 too with it mimicking the DC's one joystick.

Every game I mentioned there I finished from start to finish on the RK2020, enjoyably. *

*actually, Sonic Adventure I did not, I only fired it up for like 10 minutes, never bothered to get more than ten minutes into the game despit enumerous attempts.

        • Can you still get an RK2020 for less than the Miyoo Mini right now?

        • I'd argue something that needs a frame skip of 3 for playable speeds is not 'solid'. Or any frame skip really. Adequate, maybe.

    • Retroix 2 ftw!

    • +6

Like what? The Miyoo Mini is one of the more solid options. There's not much cheaper unless you're talking the v90, but it doesn't have the same power. The Anbernic's are generally more expensive.

This is a good buy for $86.

      • +12

It annoys me the comment has 18 + votes despite being nonsense.

        • Haha I had the exact same thought.

        • +2

Yeah. As someone who follows this stuff it's a complete fantasy that you could do better. A couple similar if you wait for specials but not better and probably not as highly reviewed. The only way you could justify saying it is if you're comparing android Tv sticks to it - ie no screen, battery, controller.

    • +5

Really hope this guy hasn't gone to a Lord of the Rings marathon.

    • Why do you have a dozen? Collecting all the colors?

      • no i think he meant dozen different devices all similar, to run emulators

        • Oh right maybe yea

      • -2

Got a BittBoy from back when they came loaded with NES ROMs. Got sent 2 for some reason. Bought a Retro Mini for GBA. Got the BittBoy 2 sent for free, they sent 2 again for some reason. Got a PocketGo (1) for my birthday a few years back. Got 3 RK2020s in the end, one for free, one bought, another I forget why, could be a warranty thing. Got the FunKey S because it's dope. Bought the ESP32 Mini when I got bored of waiting for the FunKey. Probably some others. Just kind of ended up with a bunch. Ended up giving a few to friends and stuff here and there.

    • following too. im a bit confuse so you dont recommend this one ? and what devices do you have ? wow really a collector!

    • +3

90 bucks for solid psp and dc emulation. Sounds like a nice fantasy.

    • This is… completely false.

    • -2

@anyone replying to my first comment

Holy shit. I Googled, and the prices for these things have gone waaaay up since I got my last one last year. I paid 50 for the RK2020 then, 35/40 bucks for the PocketGo (original), 20 for the BittBoy that plays roms, and 11 or 12 for my first couple BittBoys with built in NES ROMs. Shit has gone through the goddamn roof since then and what I've said is far from the truth in the current setting. I've had a fair few other ones, but these were sent to me for free by reps of RetroMimi, so I can't speak to their price.

That being said, there are still a tonne of other options out there, fitting all sorts of form factors, clamshell, candy bar, etc. if you can get one for the right price, my favorite is still the FunKey S. Tiny lil keychain thing, can play PS1 full speed and anything earlier (as well as GBA, duh) and fits right on your keys. 1 point something inch screen, fun lil GBASP design, only complaints is the battery on mine shit the bed and it was a bit poo poo to source a new one, but I was an early backer, might not be the case anymore.

Honestly, at that price, go buy a PSP or 2/3DS, whatever you can get for cheap. Vitas are fantastic piracy wise but in terms of emulation, go buy something cheap, a PSP will emulate PS1 flawlessly, as well as obviously playing all the PSP and PlayStation Minis games you can chuck at it, but it can also handle N64 (wouldn't recommend it though), and all your 8/16 bit stuff fine, GBA is pretty swell too. Hell, there's a DS emulator on PSP these days too I hear, though I don't know why you'd want that tbh.

  • and stacks with cashback.

Does it? Couldn't see these coupons on either Cashrewards or Shopback.

    • +2

Yes it's an affiliated item so it's eligible for cashback. That's just a disclaimer both cashback companies use incase the seller declines it. In the case of AliExpress if it's affiliated they'll pay out as they push these codes really hard, often with incentives to partners.

      • Wow nice, didn't know that. Thanks!

I thought they wouldn't so I didn't go through the cashback process for another purchase, guess there's nothing to lose anyway if you do.

  • wow its out right before i about to click pay. white is still there.

  • +2

I use mine for C64 games as well as Amiga and Gameboy games :)

  • Thanks OP. Was contemplating to buy off eBay international for around $145. Saved heaps. Thanks!

  • Why not get a psp or a Vita maybe not the vita but at that price I am sure you will find a psp ?

    • AFAIK the Vita store is done, and people are basically only looking for units below a certain firmware version now to take advantage of hacks. I love the Vita though. Shame Sony doesn't open up their hardware when they're done with it.

      • You can hack the latest firmware with no effort. I finally modded mine a few months ago, then the first OS update in ages came out. Downloaded it, rehacked the thing, took like 5 minutes.

jPKG (Freeshop for Vita basically) is (profanity) insane. It's just a big fat simple list of every game from every region on the PSN Store and you just hit X on whatever you want to download. It's genuinely incredible.

        • Ok, neat. I hadn't realized they were working on this like the cure to cancer. I last tried in 2015 with VitaMin and it was kind of a mixed bag experience. Thanks for letting me know.

        • jPKG downloads seems to be down

    • You could. Screen isn't going to be as sharp though. Emulation on a PSP isn't amazing either.

This is also nice and small. Some people like the form factor.

    • Different usage case. This lil guy is half the size of a vita and can play everything up to ps1 with no issues. The onionOS is excellent as well and makes it very easy to switch on and off quickly.

I use it to play rpgs with one hand when i'm waiting in the car. Perfect for in the car console imho

      • Does it support the run ahead feature in Retroarch?

It looks good but emulation on some games is unplayable for me without run ahead.

    • nope. have a look at vita prices on ebay. $250

  • +2

Owner of the v1 Miyoo mini and many other retro handhelds…

Plays everything up to PS1 extremely well. Build quality is great. Screen is from old blackberry stock and is extremely crisp. The V1 of the device was very well received by the community, you can find custom firmware on github if you search for the "Onion" firmware.

At the time of purchase of my miyoo v1 the only "budget" device with quality PSP/dreamcast emulation from memory was the retroid pocket 2+. That device however has a bigger form factor and some months back was $150aud+ shipped. There is other options which are more powerful from Anbernic and Powkddy, however those are far more expensive.

Admittedly, I havent followed the market in a a few mths, but unless some new killer device has come out I'm extremely sceptical of claims of quality dreamcast and PSP emulation at under $90…

  • OzBargain'd. Thats about 60 sold. Hopefully the seller adds more stock.

    • Not sure about v2, but the v1 of the device always sold out quick and had long delays (weeks/mths) in between restocks.

Ozbargain prob had a bit to do with it, but if miyoo still has stock issues I'd say it's probably also been posted to a bunch of related discords/reddit/other retro forums.

      • v1 was sold out last time I posted too.

    • I'm still gonna hang around to see these devices under $86 that offer solid PSP and DC emulation!

  • +3

no point in my comment as it's out of stock now… but beware… the console is really small, even for my asian hands. ie the controls sit really close to bottom of console, buttons on back are really small and prone to mis-presses. Ergonomics (or is it usability?) is not it's strong suit…

    • Is it about the same size as the old game boys? Or even smaller?

      • +1

About the size of a deck of cards

      • +1

Literally the size of a deck of cards. You can buy a case to hold a deck of cards and the Miyoo Mini fits it perfectly.

        • Wow that's tiny. I've got big hands so looks like I'll be pressing a few buttons at once

          • @vinni9284: I can use it to play something like Street Fighter no issues but not for much longer than a 20 minute session. Starts to get a little uncomfortable at that point for me.

            • @stenchlord: I guess for $89, it's not too much for a little fun. Cheers

              • +2

@vinni9284: I have 8-9 different retro handhelds. The Miyoo Mini is always the one I take with me when I leave home for work. Despite it's flaws, it's a really good device. I still highly recommend it as long as it's made clear just how small it is.

  • Only way you'll get solid PSP and DC emulation on that sort of device is to stream it across from a more powerful device, like your phone or PC.

  • +2

For those wanting PSP and DC emulation, your best bet for a "budget" option is going to be a Retroid Pocket 2+ or 3.

I prefer the 3 myself and the screen lends itself better to PSP titles but even the Retroids can only really push 1x - 4x resolution and you'll likely need to switch between gl and vulkan as well as tweak some other settings depending on the title for stable fps.

I do own them both, as well as a multitude of other devices and the Retroid Pocket 3 has been my main device since I got it but they made some silly choices in regards to things like control layout and lack of analogue triggers. Aside from that though for $120-$130USD + shipping, it's been a great device.

  • +2

Looks like there was a restock

    • +1

      thanks man. ordered

  • +1

Damn, missed out again! Grabbed an RG351V during the last deal and its great, but slightly too big for my 3 year old who became instantly hooked by Mario. One of these small guys will be great, and much more portable.
