Miyoo Mini V2 Handheld Game Console US$57.80 (~A$84) Delivered @ MIYOO Official Store AliExpress

420
7ACC6

In my recent Anbernic RG351V deal some people mentioned the Miyoo Mini as being a smaller, more compact alternative with a big fan base, so I've found a deal on it. Like the RG351V this has a proper 4:3 display ratio for retro games and can emulate games up to the PS1. The V2 version improves upon the original by offering a fully laminated display, a larger 2000mAh removable battery and a storage bag.

The handheld runs Linux with RetroArch and classic emulators included which support PS1, CPS1, CPS2, CPS3, FBA, GBA, GBC, GB, SFC, FC, MD, SMS, GG, MEOGEO, PCE, WSC and more. It has a 2.8" 640x480 IPS display, microSD card support, removable 2000mAh battery offering 5 hours of playtime, speaker, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C for charging and a vibration motor. For the controls there's a dpad, ABXY buttons, select/start, R1/R2 and L1/L2.

If you're not a fan of the included Linux OS then there's community distros available like OnionOS offering plenty of improvements.

damnit I've been avoiding buying one of these but now that's it's popped up on OzB I have to…

    • +10

That's AliExpress in a nutshell for me with my 1000+ product watchlist ;)

      • If only you had a big Instagram/OF following you'd be able to convert it to a wish list so that fans can buy the items for you!

        • +2

OF with AliExpress gadgets and seductive poses. Now that's an idea.

    • +1

      This is the way

  • Cute, but I’d still go with the RG351V or RG351P.

    • +6

      I'll find a deal on the RG351P then ;)

      • I'd be interested to see what sort of deal you can find on a RG351MP :-)

    • Sold my RG351P but love my Miyoo Mini. Super quick to boot, much better screen, better OS etc etc etc.

  • Like the RG351V this has really good build quality

I've heard many people complain about poor build quality.

    • I don't own either so I've removed that part.

    • The build quality is great on RG351V, you might have read the wrong model number. The V’s form factor is especially superb and elegant.
      Source: I own one

      • I was talking about the Miyoo Mini.

        • +1

          I'm sorry for my misunderstanding

          • +1

@blueastro: No worries. My comment was poorly worded, it's easy to see how you came to that interpretation.

  • +1

I like these. But what's the point when you can run a psx or gbc emulator on the phone with a 8bitdo controller with much better performance?

    • Novelty I would say, among other things.

    • For the kids?

    • +7

Because playing retro games and even psx using a touch interface is a terrible experience. It will also drain your phone batteries pretty quickly. And if you have to carry an 8bitdo pad with you then why not carry a pocketable device instead one that's dedicated for gaming.

      • I do like that point of view. Never thought of that! Cheers, Im still undecided between a powkiddy v90 and this but I might wait another gen.

Crazy how I get downvoted for asking for some over points of view.

        • The v90 has much lower performance.

          • @PainToad: I've seen it for half the price of this deal before though, so that makes it very appealing for the first device lol.

    • +1

Gets asked every time a device like this gets posted.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12387779/redir

    • Not easy to follow instructions to get any games on your phone like I haven't a clue but assume this is ready to go.

      • If you can’t figure out how to use emulators on Android, you’ll struggle with these devices too.

    • +4

Convenience. If i had to connect a controller to play I wouldn't bother. This is something that goes in my bag and I pull out when I have a few minutes to spare.

    • Because if you're a nub with an iPhone (raisehand) and too lazy to sign into AltServer every seven days as a non-dev (raisehand) it's a lot cheaper and more manageable than playing on a tablet.

I know; I've admitted in one sentence I'm not truly an Ozbargainer.

      • The entire point of AltServer is it’s all automated. Apps are resigned automatically daily. Once setup (and you have a server running on your network), you don’t need to do a thing.

        • Never works for me consistently unfortunately, works for a few days then I'll always have to manually plug it in.

Also you can't use AltServer with the Microsoft Store's iTunes/iCloud which is the latest version. Downloading straight from Apple is deprecated and limits functionality if you use iCloud services (which I do)

    • +1

Sometimes you just want to leave the phone for phone related tasks. Plus with this you won't be annoyed with notifications and the like.

    • I had same question but on a 2nd thought it is only because i am not a true gamer.

  • +1

Love my Miyoo Mini, highly recommended.

  • +1

Awesome mate. Just ordered, it will be my first handheld retro console, although I do still have my gameboy's in a draw somewhere!

  • +1

The screen is so tiny. Wouldn’t it be uncomfortable for the eyes?

    • The original Gameboy had a 2.6" screen

      • +1

But that was back in the days where 2.6 screen is a big deal. There are many other options with bigger screen in current context

        • Do you have any good recommendations?

I've been curious about these type of machines for awhile although I do have a day1 Switch I could convert for the same purpose.

          • @andigaming: I am still using my nintendo 3ds for the same purpose. Small enough to bring around

      • The younger us had smaller hands

      • The original Gameboy had a 2.6" screen

Yes, but the games on that were designed with a small screen in mind.

This thing runs console and arcade games which were designed for much larger displays, eg. smaller text.

  • Does the code offer $1.66 off the price? Am I missing something?

    Forgot to add tax.

  • +4

Ordered one of these (sadly, not this cheap!) through AliExpress. Awesome piece of kit; ended up taking about half the time originally estimated for shipping. Do have to say that for gaming sessions longer than an hour/playing anything that isn't turn-based eg: Pokémon, I'd recommend the Retroid Pocket 2+ for comfort, though there is definitely a price difference (I think RP2+ is typically about twice the price).

For me personally, the screen wasn't the issue; it was the size (of the unit itself). I have average to large hands (I'm a woman) and I just did not find it comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions. I was also pretty sold on making it work because it was adorable, but…

FWIW I've heard about issues with build quality as well. People dropping it maybe a foot or so onto carpet and the screen breaking. Having said that, I accidentally dropped mine from about two feet onto carpet and, touch wood, okay so far.

ETA: If it comes with a MicroSD, don't use it. The cards that come with the Miyoo are actual steaming trash. I've set up a handful of these with Onion and all the (small) cards have thrown up read errors in the first few goes. Use it to set up the unit and then bin it.

    • +1 on the SD card. I got the RG351V and the SD card was trash. I'd back it up and then leave it in a draw.

I also tried a generic 16gb class 10 which also had issues.

If you order this and don't have a decent SD card around, it would be worth picking one up as well. Most of the guides would also recommend doing this.

  • I know this sounds silly, but curious, can you watch MP4 videos on it, or is it just for games?

    • According to Reddit, you can using several different apps. Personally haven't tried, however.

  • That thing looks incredibly uncomfortable to play, the shoulder buttons are placed way too high, to comfortably grip it your thumbs would be covering the screen, so you'd have to like… Claw grip the shit out of it.

    • +1

This is ideal for GB/C games, which don't use the shoulder buttons at all.

      • -2

Sure, but if you're buying it just for GB/C games, you can get an actual kidded GBC for only slightly more. The whole point of these are being a multiplatform emu

        • Miyi mini is the size of a deck of cards, that's half the appeal. Even a GBC is chunky in comparison. Plus you'd need to buy a flashcart which is expensive and you'd want to the Everdrive GB X7, which is never in stock anyway.

  • +1

Too small for me, if it were bigger it would be something I'd consider getting, but I can already imagine all the hand cramps I'd get

    • And tired eyes

    • Exactly what I was thinking. Love the Gameboy design, just wish it was about 20% larger

  • I have one. Not a bad little console. Great for RPGs. Quality is better than rk2020. But rk2020 is much comfortable.

  • Anything recommendations on similar for a better price, or something the kids will enjoy for a while and won't break in 1 month?

    • You’re not going to get something similar for a better price. You can get worse for a better price, eg. The Powkiddy V90 and Q90.

      • i figured tey would be lower quality, just want something that isn't absolute crapola, will check out ones youve mentioned

      • I looked up the Powkiddy V90 some sell it for 7 and others 50, what price do you think they're worth? And are we talking about the flip one or the gameboy pocket style one? Is that the Q90?

    • +1

Get PlayStation Vita from marketplace. The first generation if you can find it as it has oled instead of lcd screen.

The Vita is emulation isn’t very powerful but can run similiar to what this system can do. It has the benefit of being able to run PlayStation 1, PlayStation portable and Vita games perfectly at full speed 😀

      https://youtu.be/L49nwJqvbEc

      • +1

You’re not going to get a Vita for anywhere near this price. Let alone cheaper.

        • I got mine for $80 the 1st gen off marketplace. Just before 1st lockdown 😀

          • @quacka: I think you got lucky from someone who didn't know the difference between a PSP and a Vita and sold it to you at the PSP value.

      • interesting. i'll check - hopefully someone selling it for cheap. so we can hack this vita, regardless which hardware/software version, right?

        • Vita 100% hackable. You can even download any of the official games pretty much direct from the console also. Nice bit of kit apart from the joysticks been a bit trash

  • OOS :(

    • Says 13x White and 17x RetroGrey still available for me…

  • MORE IN STOCK!!!

  • Bought one from eBay for about $70AUD last month. It was drop shipped but arrived in about 1 week.

It's a small and fast unit, the latest Onion OS makes it very usable.
I have completed a few Disney PS1 games on it and it has been a blast.

    QUESTION:
The original screen protector is kind of peeling off, so if anyone has recommendations for local screen protector that would be great. I tried a few Camera Protectors but they are too large and fall off the curved edges.

    • If that’s how much you paid for a Mini V2, that’s a really good price, as it seems to have gone up on aliexpress in the past month or so

      • yes, looks like it.

        same seller is now $80.
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195031433438
I got the above item for $76 (64gb, the 32gb was $72 or something at the time).

        • Wow that’s very good if it’s a V2. Do you mind checking if your Myioo has a 1900mha or a 2000mha battery?

          • @Suoflo: It's a V2 for sure. It has the 2mm JST connector for the battery. The buttons don't rub against the case either.

            • @OpayuOnam: You should post this as a deal mate! Turns out cheaper than OP’s post

              • +1

@Suoflo: The community generally looks down on eBay drop shippers… When I asked in the miyoo-mini discord they all brought out their pitch forks and ready to tear down the wall lol. The consensus seems to be buying from official Miyoo channel gives better support if things go south (for example Miyoo sends you spare parts for things that break so you can fix them).
For my personal case I wanted the item faster and was happy with level of warranty eBay/PayPal/CreditCard provides.

As such I am a bit hesitant to promote drop shipper deals. If OP is happy they can update their post to mention this eBay listing. @Clear

  • Are people really not privileged enough to have a safe, secure place to store all their retro game consoles from when they first bought them and to buy highly priced original games from collectors??

    • What are you even talking about

      • +1

        he is anonyl ie annonying

        • hey, take that back!

          • @AnonyL: just kidding bro… all good…. its like "username checks out"

  • Looks like the transparent grey and blue are back in stock too!

  • Missed out!

  • Retro Grey back in stock

  • Is there anywhere else selling this? This has become something I want instead of need :P
