    What would you buy?
Buying a projector is very overwhelming

Start with budget projectors with fraction of money u paid with brand named ones. I was surprised how good they are these days.

I recently bought a secondhand Epson projector and compared it to my Blitzwolf VP6. Both roughly the same purchase price.

I can say I was blown away by the Epson. The colour depth and brightness is way higher, that even with the lights on you still see the picture clearly, where as the VP6 was washed out.

The only con for me is 4000-ish hrs vs 30000 hrs bulb life, which means over the supposedly lifetime of the VP6, I would have to replace the Epson bulb atleast 6 times.

      • What was the Epson model?

        • +1

          Epson EB-1975W

          • @sh4hp: Interesting, that's a 800p projector at 5k ansi lumens. How big of a picture are you projecting and how are your blacks? I think most people would be using these sort of projectors for home movie watching and the native 1080p would be pretty important imo

            • +1

@dazzles: Yeah, first I thought the 800p would make a huge difference on the picture clarity, but it did not for me anyway. Keep in mind that at a projected distance, I believe the difference in resolution would be less between 720p and 1080p. Coupled with the higher brightness and processing (all that 3lcd tech etc), it makes up for it and more.

It sort of feels like comparing a 55" 4K Bauhn to a 55" FHD Samsung. Both around the same price point, but the output looks the same to me.

I believe the projected size is around 105"? I'm projecting on to a wall.

      • Yeah my consideration exactly… The 3000-4000 hours bulb replacement will end up more expensive…

        • Depends on how long you plan to use it I guess, but yeah definitely something to consider.

Like the projector in the post above would last 16 years with 5 hours of daily use.

The secondhand Epson I got for roughly 1/3 of the price will last me maybe 1 year (used bulb) with the same use, and $200 every other year from then.

The same 16 years, you spent $999 for this while spending $1.7K for the Epson.

If you sold after 7 years of use though which is a typical time people change equipment, then I'm still a leg up in terms of cost of ownership.

        • maybe by the time it reaches the replacement, we will have better spec maybe even cheaper new projector, assuming 4 hrs a day usage / 4000 hours = 1000 days.. 2.5 years

          • @Ziaina: Is led a much better option? Life span > 30000 hours.

    • I'm happy with the viewing quality (only) of BigW's $159 (was on sale) EKO 1080P projector. Now I'm looking for an upgrade as EKO had no wifi, no bluetooth etc.

  • This needs to be plugged in to a power source at all times so it's not reallllllyyyyyyy portable

  • +1

Any yaber native 1080p projector will do the job , and will cause you under $300.

    • I totally agree with you :).
