      You beat me too it!

I was going for 'this deal is just spam'.

  • +4

Last week's coles catalogue had these 340g cans for half price at $2.27ea on the frontpage (at least in VIC)

    • Yes, I confirm that in WA. Is Coles trying to test what is the highest "low" price for SPAM ?

    • +1

did they come with their own key to open the can? were they spam brand or an inferior model? what's the expiry date? what flavours of spam were available?

      • +1

Doesn't show an expiry, which is quite normal for these, only shows when it was packaged, which was 19/01/2012 for the ones that I bought.

And yes, it did come with the key thing that helps u peel off the top, its the original SPAM, just take a look at coles weekly specials from last week, I was only interested in the usual blue cans so I did not take notice of which other flavours were available.

  • What is the best way to use this Spam? This'll determine if it is good value or not :p

    • +4

open the can and eat it. goes well with my $1 maggi cup noodle … say no to cooking and dishwashing!!! my favorite is the HOT one!

    • Lookup spam musubi - a fav in Hawaii

because it says spam in the title?

  • +1

I just bought them for just $2.27 per can last week. so….why?

    • +2

SPAM was indeed $2.27 in last week's catalogue and I bought just a few.

    • Yep bought em at 2.27 as well! 4 tins!

    SPAM

  • I have reported this deal to the mods as spam.

    I prefer Corned Beef

    • +4

You can either get spammed or conned.

  • when they say "Quick sale" is usually only in that 1 store only, ie: close to expiry date. $3 is cheap but hardly a bargain, even worse not mentioning which store.

  • -3

    Is this one Kosher ?

    • Only with a nice glass of milk

  • +1

Slice in 4, fry, slice pineapple, fry, open bun, place spam, slice of cheese, pineapple, close bun. hey presto, Spamburger (recipe from masterchef)

    • +1

I don't think masterchef should be taking credit for that one, SPAMburgers have been around for decades! ;)

  • +2

I always thought it was Specially Processed American Meat, but apparently it is SPiced hAM. I bet they changed its meaning when they realised that Specially Processed American Meat doesn't sound that appealing.

  • holy spam!

    • don't know if its been blessed

  • yuks

  • yuck SPAM with its jelly fat… Smells yuck too! Errrk! Dunno how ppl can eat it

    • Because we eat what we're told to eat?

    • +1

i agree, half of it seems to be gelatin, and it looks butt ugly-like it came out the wrong end of a cow…but i suppose there are lots of foods that are an, ahem, 'acquired' taste!

      • I don't think it comes from cow…

  • +1

how can it be SPiced hAM when there's a turkey flavour??

  • Mmm, SPAMburger! :)

    Is the meat hallal?

    • +2

      It's doubtful that it's even meat…

    • +2

      is any pork meat hallal?

    • The fact you asked the question proves you have no interest in knowing the outcome and are only here to troll.

Also… your name is "The Chad". enough said.

Well if we are on the topic of cheaper food options, i've started to buy the Campbells and Heinz tinned soup cans for lunch at work, I grab them when they are on special at coles or woolworths for around $2-$2.50 each. You'd be surprised how good they are, and they are saving me around $10 a week compared to bringing in sandwiches from home, or up to $30 a week if I was to buy an $8 lunch everyday. They are great in Winter, i've got alot of my department on them now :)

    • Addicted to the Beef and Potato Curry ones. They go down a treat, and being Curry you can kinda justify the salt and preservatives.

      • +3

coz it doesn't last long enough in you to absorb the salt and preservatives?

        • Keeps you more regular than prunes! :p

    • you sir, are a true ozbarginer

    • +2

Geez - if you whole department is having this for lunch, I bet your department saves heaps on heating in the afternoon !!

    • how does it cost you $4 per sandwich to make at home? what do you put on it - caviar?

  • +3

Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam….
    Monty python was great :-)

  • Gmail gives good recipes for spam if you are on it.

They might be sort date. Last time i bought spam from wooly for $2.5 They only had 3 week until use by date. Lucky i only bought 3.
If they are not sort date then not bad.

I see that the wiki is missing the key ingredient…love! :p

      • Sorry but I had to ignore that, looked a bit too much like spam.

      • I'd sooooo prefer it if I looked at wikipedia and the sole entry was: * "omg spam contains so much fat. don't eat it!" *

  • spam is gross

  • Instead of bacon I used to fry Spam, eggs and the works for breakfast.
Also fried spam with kimchi and rice tastes sooooooooo good!

  • missed the 2.27….
