  • Pretty sweet beater watch with Sapphire crystal for under 100

    • and the very well protected, and positioned, crown knob

      • +4

Yes have to protect the knob

  • Thanks WN - not a fan of this models look but appreciate post and may get another steeldive watch. Where is the US$79.60 (US $3.00 off every US $30.00 spent) from if I want to use it on another?

    • It automatically adds the discount to your cart so not sure if it's available on other models. I haven't looked.

      • +2

        Thanks any recommendations?

I’m selling of some of my Swiss watches and replacing them with cheaper knock offs to raise some cash.

        • +1

Wouldn't exactly call homages like this knock-offs, The 1970 seiko was out of production for 50y. The new re-releases (and special ed) look great, but are $999-2200.

You get a lot of watch for your money these days, not like the rubbish quality ones from china/thailand that had the same logo etc and would fall apart after not long). At least this actually has a Seiko movement (still not sure if genuine seiko II or NH35 copy). Got a few other Pagani's that are good quality too. Just have to do the research and buy the recommended microbrands.

This one is great though, have one myself. I can say I wear it more than my Tissot and Oris Aquis. It doesn't wear like a big watch, the lug-lug dim is short and the fit is great hey. Lume and construction is fantastic. The Oris cost a fortune to service and 10 weeks away to Melb (about a third of the watch's cost). You don't need to be too precious with watches like this as you can easily replace the whole movement for under $60.

@G-rig: Lol mate this isn’t a homage. This is a straight knock off.

            • @nomoneynoproblems: MATE.. That's the idea, and you couldn't get them for years until recently as I said. It's not your blatant sub Mariner copy like every other brand does anyway (almost all of invicata's collection is based on it).

There are also only so many styles ..

Anyway I'm not stopping you from getting a real one buddy, go for it.

i have a steeldive rolex homage quartz, love it, great quality with steeldive.

  • Anyone ever actually been pinged for gst on Ali purchases?

    • +4

Ali express adds GST at checkout

      • Thanks ! Been sitting with a pd 1644 in my cart for ages but never actually got to checkout stage

        • +1

I got the (white) PD Daytona as well, looks great and keeps just as good time Seiko vk63 mecha-quartz.

Good having a few quartz (and solar quartz) in the collection to just grab and go. I feel the PD could use some/more anti-reflective coating as it's a bit hard to read the time quickly from some angles with the thin silver hands on white. Picked up a Seiko tuna solar street in navy for $205, completely different but excellent too - keeps time within a second over the last few months.

  • +1

This is a great (and great-looking) watch. Sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, reliable movement, as well as really bright and long lasting lume.

Unfortunately it doesn't get nearly enough time on my wrist.

  • +1

Have two recent purchases of Steeldive watches …

The Tuna and budget Sub homages.

    Tuna - paid about $130 / runs @ about -2 seconds a day / feels indestructible … love it.

    Sub - paid about $60 / runs @ about +3 seconds a month / had to re-glue the ceramic bezel … a good beater.

Would I buy another Steeldive - Yes.

    • Do they make the sub without the magnifier? Aliexpress is a pita to search

      • It’s easy to remove. Heat it up and it will slide off. Check YT.

        • I have done this method twice. Worked fine with the steeldive sub but wrecked a seiko king turtle. In retrospect should have popped out the crystal before removing the magnifier. It's pretty easy to remove and replace crystals with a basic watch repair kit.

          • +2

            @fdawg:

            wrecked a seiko king turtle

            😐

            • @pennypacker: The crystal popped out under the flame (right at the same moment the magnifier came off), causing the chapter ring to warp and the date mechanism to break. Salvaged it with a new movement and chapter ring. 🙂

  • Thanks OP. A mate of mine owns one of these, as well as the Seiko Willard reissue, and the Steeldive held up remarkably well in a side-by-side comparison. IMHO, it punches well above its price bracket.

  • +2

Any others from steeldive worth considering?

  • Still got mine since may 2021. It's actually gotten more accurate over time. Initially it was about -15 seconds per day to about -4.

  • The silver band sold out.

    • In the black dial. Green and blue dials with the bracelet still there.

  • That’s a LOT of watch for that price.

I bought one of the last black models with bracelets, but will likely buy a cheapo silicone band to switch it up in the future.

Great homage to the seiko 6105 and for that price you can wear it as an everyday beater.

  • +2

I love mine. Swapped out the dial and hands with some others I got on Ali as a fun little project. Looks great on a black honeycomb patterned strap.

  • +1

Got mine for a tad under $100 in a similar deal a few months ago.

When I actually need to go out with a watch on, has become my regular beater - my other more expensive automatics are getting jealous :-).

If I didn't have way too many watches already, I'd probably go for another in a different dial colour.

Very impressed for the price and not going to do better bang for buck.

  • +3

    I have enough watches,
    I have enough watches,

    Damn, bought another watch!

  • +1

Wouldn't cashback bring it down to $106.5, as there is a $15 cap?

    • Thanks, I missed that. Fixed it now. Sorry guys.

  • is it like a luminex? the glow is intense in the photo.

    • +2

The lume is very good, it's the best out of many watches I have owned over the years.
Watch the Lume Wars youtube review in the description.

  • Thanks! Picked up a blue one with SS Strap for $106 delivered with Cashrewards. Fingers crossed tracking works as I went through their app.

  • Hey, WN, any advice regarding keeping the spring bars in place? I'm finding that if I move my arm suddenly in a way that causes the watch to twist that the bars pop out. I've found it happens with both the original rubber strap and NATO-style ones, and I even tried "heavy duty" spring bars from Ebay.

    • +1

Sounds like you need to deepen the hole that the spring bar sits into if it's happening with different bars, sounds like it's too shallow and not grabbing firmly enough. I beat the hell out of mine and have used it on construction sites etc. and haven't ran into anything like that.

  • 20% cashback ($15 max) expired last night but you can still get 5%.

  • Are there any Chinese manufacturers on Aliexpress selling solar powered watches? I've seen a couple of citizen eco drives but those aren't really priced competitively enough.

    • +1

Haven't noticed any but just look for the Seiko V173 movement (like in the Seiko tuna Solar - got one for 205$ recently, keeps brilliant time).

      • Excellent thanks I'll keep an eye out on Aliexpress!

  • My watch arrived today. Pretty quick. Built well but very very heavy.

    • Depends what you're used to but it's a bit that way.
Just size it for a secure fit, not loose and you probably won't notice it too much. Agree great build and lume, pretty solid.

      • I have tiny wrists and used to wearing 35mm watches handwinding. So it’s a big change.

        • True, those are very small light watches so will be a lot different. May as well wear it and see how it goes.

I've got ~6.5" left wrist but it's a perfect fit with the short lug to lug length. Usually 38-40mm watches fit best.

          • @G-rig: Thanks! I think I made the mistake getting the SS Strap. Worth getting the rubber one for lighter weight?

            • @Cynicaloflife: Sure could give it a go.
Wouldn't say it's a mistake, always good to get the stainless bracelet as well, good to change it up and or handy for resale.
