Not an amazing deal on the 256GB variants - they've been quite a bit lower before - e.g. the 256GB Pro Plus for just over $50

But the price on the 64GB and 128GB EVO Plus is I think near all time low

      • How are they allowed to sell lemons on Amazon?

    • +1

You'll have to go back in time.
I think the smallest you can get is 16GB these days

  • Samsung's best microSD's are only UHS-I :/

  • Does anyone know if EVO Plus (A2 V30) series will perform well in dashcam.(viofo a119) and nintendo switch usage? I don't expect the best performance but as long it can give decent user experience for this price, it should be fine.

    • +7

      Get endurance series for dashcam

    • +2

While the pro is faster, the plus cards are good enough. They'll work fine for the switch and dash cam, better than most other microSD cards on the market in my opinion.

      • +2

Grab endurance. last thing you want is to be in a car accident and then figure out your microsd does ages ago

        • +1

Still waiting for good deals on Sandisk Max Endurance cards.

    • +1

Well, I had a 256gb Samsung evo plus in my dashcam.
I got in a not at fault accident last week and it wasn’t on my sd card or on the built in Emmc storage.
I tried absolutely everything to get my footage back and it didn’t work.
      Have VIOFO a129 plus duo
Also pressed the triangle button on the dashcam to lock the recording but nothing was there.
It may be a problem with the dashcam or the sd card but I recommend going for something high endurance

SS sell fake stuff, I bought Samsung Evo from them before, it's fake.

      • +5

I dont think so. They big company. Are you sure fake ? Tested ?

        • +1

The cards they sell are not au variants. Some asian variant instead.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: yup. some people just freaked out when they see chinese words on the packaging.
or when it failed due to unfortunate event or misuse, they think oh must be fake.
yes break in a week is not an excuse and you should get it replaced/refund by SS but hey not everyone win lotto

            • @CyberMurning: yeah i mine all have decemt spends getting around 70-85mb/s.

anyways it doesn't matter as au variants are now usually as cheap if not some times cheaper. obv get from local retailer if same price or cheaper. back then ss was cheapest the most often before big retailers started discounting

      • +6

Well, I also had a bad experience with SS on the quality of their products. I bought 2 x 8tb ironwolves. One of them failed after 20 days of use. And it's soooo hard to get the replacement. Took me over 3 weeks for them to reolace - and they held the shipping back until I changed my negative ebay review. Essentially holding the replacement hostage until they get it their way.

I think they just get the bottom of the barrel crap and inferior quality products. I'm never buying from them again.

        • +1

If it’s a fake then yeah, that’s a scam. But if it’s a Seagate then it’s just unlucky, there’s no inferior ironwolf products that they sell specifically to shady sellers.
The customer service sounds terrible though, valid reason to avoid.

        • I had a DOA Western Digital HDD from SS. It took 4 weeks for a replacement. I enquired why it was taking a long time to send a replacement, they said they sent it back to the manufacturer for remedy instead of providing the replacement themselves. If I had known they would do that, I would have asked for a refund.

      • wow are they really?

I bought around 3 128gb cards from evo and always thought there cards were dodgy as they came with in some asian language packing and also the printing on the cards looked a bit cheapm

        • Might just be a grey import but I would check with something like h2testw to see if it’s genuine

        • +1

Well now you know there are different languages in the world not just english

          • +1

@CyberMurning: always knew that. biggest alarming thing was that the print on the sdcard was blurry and not clear at all whereas one of my local cards is clear as day

      • +5

        @kml22

I don't know anything about your prior shopping experience as you failed to elaborate.

That said, Shopping Square's Sammy and SanDisk microSD products are fine in my experience and are all genuine stock in my experience… Their stock are mostly grey imports and usually not through Oz distro channels… To compete they do process and ship their products quickly with modest shipping charges (not much weight in these products for shipping anyway).

I have been buying from them (SS) for years and test each and every microSD or thumb drive I buy before I use them regardless of whether I purchase the product from SS, JBs or amazon.

If they were selling fakes, I don't believe they would be in business today. I have purchased from them several times over the last six years. You may occasionally purchase a d.o.a. (dead on arrival) unit from time to time (as you could with any product), but one dead product does not indicate that what you claim to be true unless you have made a few purchases that were all dead, then I would consider support of your claim.

Sweeping statements do not help OzBargainers who visit here and are seeking peoples' views and experiences to help make their decision to purchase products like this.

        • True they perform pretty well so I assume they are genuine grey imports. km needs some evdience to backup their claim

        • +1

I try to claim warranty from Samsung and they reject it because they said it was a non genuine product.

          • @kml22: damn!
it definitely does look different to au variants cards. like the printing isn't as clear…

or maybe then didn't honour warranty since it was grey import

      • +3

        What fake stuff?

I've bought several electronics from them before and they all performed fine, and were not fake.

        • +2

agree they are just too big to risk selling fakes.
they are just like asian version of jbhifi. haha

    • +2

SS will also take 2-4 weeks for delivery.

  • +5

The 128 isn't being sold by Amazon for that price FYI, it's coming from 1 of 4 subsellers - the Amazon AU price is $32.02

    • It's still 19 from Amazon AU on my screen.

Edit: I see which one you are talking about. Yes it is $32.02.

      • +1

Not sure what you guys mean… I ordered it and got it same day with prime for $19…

        • Not sure if prices are still current but at the time of my previous post $19 was for the EVO Plus. $32.02 was for the PRO Plus.

    • +1

good fact-checking (it only takes a few clicks and a few moments)

      :)

  • -1

The 256GB costs more than double of the 128GB. Makes sense /s

    • @ PlushToys… yes… but the Sammy Pro Plus 256gb is about 1/2 the price I paid for the camelsx3 lowest price I had recently paid for the Sammy Pro Plus 512gb + USB adapter ($123… amazon au)

These high end Sammy Pro Plus units are good in high end cameras, 4K videos (fast writing) but are overkill for most applications such as dashcams, security and drones etc, and I unable to confirm their endurance over time since I have only been using them since May.

    • +1

It’s been like this forever. The best value is always in the middle.
The low capacity has a upfront material and manufacturing cost that reduces value. These costs don’t increase much in the middle range so $/GB gets better.
The high capacity requires high density (more expensive) flash storage so value falls off again.

  • -1

Anyone use these on surface pro? How are the speeds??

    • I use the Evo on my HP spectre, I store avi files and play videos from it. Works just fine

  • +2

I need a good deal on a 1TB card. Amazon UK randomly canceled and refunded the last one I tried to buy from this deal (was $145.57) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/712389

  • +3

evo plus 64 down to $9
wco plus 256 down to $34

    • +1

JBhifi is $12 and $44 for 64gb/256gb respectively.
$34 for 256gb is pretty good!

  • +1

Just do a price match a few minute ago with JB Hi-fi.
$19 for Samsung MicroSD Cards EVO Plus 128gb
You can also try your luck with JB Perks for more $10 off to get $9 for 128gb.

  • Will these work well for a Nintendo Switch?

  • +1

Why are these so cheap, but to add the same in a phone model it costs 4x as much?

    • i need to call steve jobs to ask this very important question. hang on ….

    • +1

The flash storage in USB drives and MicroSD cards are typically some of the lowest quality. Phone storage needs to faster and much more reliable since it will be having constant read/writes from running an OS off it. Quality storage costs more but also the manufacturer/retailer marking it up for those wanting to upgrade

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got a 128GB at Officeworks price match $18.05

    • That's a great price for a 128. Good job! :)

  • 256GB Samsung MicroSD for $29 at Amazon.com.au still has yet to be beaten, if my price-tracking skills are accurate.

    • +1
