  • Not on the Bunnings website so it's likely just a single unit.

  • What's with the battery capacity? 2Ah at 82V is 164Wh, but the box states 144Wh.

    • +18

82V is marketing speak for 72V basically. LiIon cells voltage varies from about 3.0-4.2V so for the energy calculation they use the average 3.6V *20 cells *2Ah = 144Wh, but 82V looks better on the box (20 cells * 4.1V)

This is why 18V and 20V drills are the same thing (5 * 3.6V vs 5 * 4.0V). One is using average cell voltage which is more realistic while one is maximum voltage.

I’d want this for a whole lot less than $699

    • Hold your breath , I dare you !

I've seen a few of these sell for same at other Bunnings but personally (from my experience) I'd steer well away from these units as:
    1. these Victa 82V batteries have a few issues ( charging 20 x 18650 batteriies, in 4 x 5 banks does get a little messy esp. when one battery fails which does happen ..and apparently the charge circuits often fail )
    2. Batteries are somewhat expensive to replace when they do go ( approx $350-$390)
    3. 82V discontinued about a year back, so warranty is often a return to bunnings for refund, and you may end up with other unused skins in the process.

    • Thanks for doing the research on our behalf

    • Do you own one ?

I've had the 18inch for a few years now and it has been brilliant. 82V powerful enough to churn through thick grass, and two batteries is enough to get through our 1000sqm worth of grass, and then switch over to the line trimmer to finish edging, and blower the debris.

The charger is fast enough that it has never been a problem to charge up while using the other.

As someone else mentioned you can use greenworks batteries sold by Costco (search their website) with a slight mod to the battery (file down a plastic insert I believe). Haven't needed a third battery yet but when I do I'll get one of these.

I have quite a few of the 82v Victa garden tools, including the 21" mower and they have been nothing short of amazing. It really is a shame that they have discontinued the 82V range. Apparently the greenworks 80v batteries can be easily modified to fit in the Victa tools. I haven't had a need to do this yet as I have 7 batteries

    • I changed a battery once, cost me $169 from Bunnings brand new

    • Just got a 36v ryobi brushless and can't fault it if people want a similar priced alternative with 6 year warranty, other skin options and not discontinued.

      • *3 year warranty on the batteries (which is the most likely part to fail).

  • +2

I have this. It’s discontinued and I believe there is a newer model. I’ve had issues with the batteries and it’s hard to find replacements, I’d avoid personally based on that.

    Otherwise it’s a solid mower.

Everyone can bag the 82v Victa items, but I have the full set and domestically nothing else comes close. 30mins to charge a 2Mah battery is great.

    • +1

Agree. Have used this unit for 4 years now. Battery hasn't degraded. Mentally fast recharge. I did however buy a clearance line trimmer and ended up taking it back due to the battery being 5 years old when I purchased it. Hot tip if you buy these 82v units from Bunnings - check the date on the battery before paying

We've had our mower for 4+years now and it's been amazing. I picked up a chainsaw 18 months ago as well and I'm really disappointed that the range was discontinued. I'd love the line trimmer but can't find them anymore, although I'm very tempted to try the 80v greenworks one and modify one of the Victa batteries to see if I can get it to work.

      • I have read reports that both the Kobalt 80v and Greenworks 80v batteries do fit the Victa but I wouldn't take that as gospel.

When Bunnings discontinued the line I snaffled up a spare Victa 82V battery which I used once and then packed away at 50% charge. I can't see myself needing it anytime soon.

        • They don't physically fit as there are extra plastic thicknesser on the battery's which act as different slot guides across the brands. You need to chisel or grind them off. They are electrically the same at the battery terminals. What shits me the most is that Victa change their battery every time they discontinue then Phoenix the 82v product.

          • +1

@Punkboy: They fit absolutely fine when you grind away the extra plastic with a Dremel 👍

            • @Nom: Yeah I'll eventually cave and have a go at grinding the Victa battery to fit a greenworks tool. Luckily the battery housing is easily removable so you don't have to worry about hitting the electronics underneath

    • +3

Oh my friend there is one brand that way exceeds the victa plus 5yr warranty. Ego. Cost more sure but had the victa changed to ego n its like chalk n cheese ego superior in every way.

      https://www.totaltools.com.au/brands/ego/lawn-mowers

      • +2

By superior in every way you mean the plastic deck that the ego has versus the metal deck of the Victa?

        • -1

Absolutely, no rust, easy to clean never, seen one ever broken, light as ever, but of course if you really must have a steel deck ego make the steel deck version as well.

Oh n ego has 5yr warranty think if ego deck was gonna break it would've in 5yrs yet again never heard one breaking.

Add superior samsung and sanyo cells used in battery packs, easily repaired after warranty expiry 3yrs in Australia 5yrs in usa or clones available on aliexpress.

          Batteries 2.5 , 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, n now 12.0 ah available

    • @Damonator84 You say nothing comes close, but could you please tell us what you've personally used to be able to make that statement? I'm not having a dig, genuine question - If you've used multiple electric mowers/snippers I want to hear what you've got to say! Cuz everyone swears by the old faithful that they own, but that's relatively useless info for someone like myself who's trying to work out which brand/1-battery-fits-all to buy in to

I bought one of these several years and haven't experienced any problems. At 144Wh the battery is a little undersized so I make sure I look after it by storing it inside at ~50% charge and then charge it up just before I mow. My battery is now 4 years old and I can't notice any degradation.

  • +1

I have one of these mowers. Has been super reliable with no issues. 3rd year running. Also got the line trimmer and Hedger and all work beautifully. The line is discontinued so if any issues you will only get a refund at best case but if not, it does the job better than most. The only battery mower that I have heard that can come close are the Ego 54v ones which are twice the price or more

  • +2

    From Google from Choice magazine

What happened to the victa 82V range?
We understand that Victa has discontinued its 82V range making this purchase a couple of years ago a waste of money (Victa's US owning firm came out of liquidation in 2020 apparently however the 82V range is no more and spare batteries rare with no competitor batteries to fit available)

Petrol mowers put hairs on your chest.

  • +2

Costco currently is selling the Greenworks version of this mower (with 4ah battery) for the same price. I'd get the Greenworks over the Victa if its the same price. Batteries are compatible with Victa, just need to dremel on of the guide rails on the battery compartment.

  • +3

For this price probably worth buying one of the similarly priced Makitas so your batteries can be used for other tools

  • +2

I bought the 82v 18” two years ago and battery has failed a few weeks ago. Took to Bunnings for replacement and they have no ETA on battery under warranty. Called Victa they have none in stock in country and could be up to 2 months away.

I bought the ryobi 36v 6ah kit and so far impressed with that from the 2 mows I’ve done. It’s also a 1200W motor, but trumps the vitca with a 3600rpm no load speed.

    What is 21" in Australian?

You would think a company that a company that wanted to portray itself as Australian and sell to Australians would speak Australian in its marketing.

    • +2

Probably the height a cane toad can jump too.

    • Any experienced builder will tell you: Learn or get a two by four over your head.
What size are your wheels? Your monitor?
I grew up in the metric system but love to pump my car in psi. Just a nice number.

      • +1

No builder says 2 x 4 since it doesn't really exist here and would just cause confusion. 90 x 35 is very common to hear on the job site though (or 70x35 but not nearly as much now).

    • Trying buying bolts or drills etc from bunnings or similar. The isles are still full of the stupid 1/8 2/32 or similar sized items. I was buying rivets yesterday and you could only get stupid sized things like 1/8 …

Why would anyone in their right mind want to use such a crazy measurement system .. metric is so much easier to understand , ie it is obvious 3.2mm drill is smaller than a 3.5 mm etc …

  • +1

I have the Kobalt version which is made in the same factory in mower from masters and the Victa blower and chainsaw. I did a small mod to the tool with knife to use kobalt 80v batteries in the victa 82v tools. The batteries have lasted for many years and still quite good since masters closed.

        • So the total cost is just $186.30 ? That's a lot cheaper than Bunnings used to sell them for.

          • @Nom: It's $179 to get a greenworks battery from Costco. I'd rather do that and grind an extra groove into it than get that battery from Ali for more.

Honestly, after doing some research. Pay a bit more and get an Ego (when on special of course).

  • Pickup the Victa blower for $10 while you're at it from Mentone VIC…. See my other thread….

  • Got an EGO battery mower and line trimmer , they have specials with batteries included, very happy with them

There is a reason for 82V being discontinued.
It was a good idea in early days of lithium batteries to have them all in series.
Unfortunately whoever choose them cells must have gotten old technology, either no or badly designed battery management systems built in.
Bunnings were never happy with the unusual many recalls, keep receipt as them batteries rarely survive 5 extra minutes past printed warranty.
Take the good with the bad. I managed to get a brand new mower minus battery and charger for $50.00 .
Finding a reputable lasting battery must be the issue.

  • 2 left at Penrith for $500

    • Mine has a new battery (manufacturing date December 2021) and a much older battery (2016). When I called up the manager explained that this was due to others being stolen from the box, hence the reduced price.

  • I have tried battery lawnmover, no way near the pretrol one. Only good for a small patch and low grass.

    • It all depends on what you define as small vs someone else

  • Any patch of lawn, if the grass is a bit high, then forget your battery lawn.

    • Yes with thick and high grass you do consume a lot of battery. It can take me 4 batteries in the 82V Victa system to do about 150-200m2 when I've let the lawn go. But I still don't regret battery over petrol.

  • Bunnings Hoppers Crossing had at least 6 of these for $414 when we were in a couple of hours ago. Located behind the pain section in the middle walkway.
