The frozen fried chicken burgers were quite tasty last time! Would recommend

    • +1

Likewise on the Louisana portions too! 👍
My pack had 3 drumsticks and 3 marylands pieces, all finished within a week

      • +5

You took a week to finish 6 pcs of chicken?

        • They were huge pieces lol, my Kogan airfryer is too small to do more than 1 piece at a time haha

    • +13

They're definitely crispy enough but I found them quite salty.

      • Yeah I wasn't a fan. Might give the chicken burgers a go this time.

    • +9

Honestly better than KFC. Avoiding eating food made by others during this pandemic has forced me to learn how easy it is to make something better than takeaway. Saves lots of money too.

    • +2

They are fantastic for salt lovers

    • +2

I found the chicken way over salted and too fatty.

      • I had a mix of fatty / lean which is just the way It goes with chicken depending on which part you get.

Bit salty yeh, but that's just because the spices aren't as strong as say fresh fried KFC to cover it up

        • wasn't just the fat though, was a combination of fatty pieces with a excess oil with the salt as the topper. ended up throwing them away. was very disappointed.

          • @gromit: each to their own, found them very tasty, especially for their price.

    • +1

I also had a good experience, it's still frozen pre-fried chicken but better than you'd expect.

It has flavour and is actually chicken so that's a big start over most things in the freezer section.

  • +1

Tried Louisiana burgers this weekend and everyone loved them. Will give Nashville ones a go as well. I hope they are not too spicy for kids.

    • +2

I think the burgers only come in the Louisiana…it's the bone in pieces that you have a choice of heat

    • +2

Nashville is definitely too spicy for kids, it was too spicy for this adult 😂

  • +4

These portions are insanely good, almost becoming a weekly pickup

  • -4

Doesn't the bun dry out on the burger in the oven?

    • +5

There's no bun, just the fried chicken piece/patty

      • -5

The picture lied. So it's just a patty and not a burger. Not really take out, if you have to provide 75% yourself. Glad I didn't try to buy.

        • +2

You forgot to bold a word, jv.

          • @slowey: Yet I still get negged for stating a fact/observation. Yet Dammit gets plused for agreeing with me. Can't win.

        • +7

haha yeah its a good point actually, they call them burgers - not burger patties…. so you could easily assume its a full burger

          • +2

@dammit: I actually went to look this up, but the main definition for 'Burger' is a food patty, or patty on a bun, containing ingredients other than beef. The other definition is that it's the full sandwich, so technically in this case, it is correct to call these 'burgers', despite the rest of the sandwich not being present.

  • +14

I'll say it. The chicken burgers from these guys are as close to KFC as i've ever had from a frozen cook at home product. Ive had the chicken pieces and the burgers and both were great!

    • +1

100% agree…finger licking good. Had both burgers and pieces, and they both very tasty.

    • I like them, but don't think they taste like KFC

  • +1

Make sure you check the use by date though. These were half price a month or so ago and all the packs at my local store only had a couple of weeks left on the use by date.

  • The Burgers are good oven baked. Too crispy air fried.

The portions are quite big and take a long time to cook. Not sure if they are as good tbh

    • +5

The Burgers are good oven baked. Too crispy air fried.

Interesting perspective. I think of the air fryer as a smaller oven that heats up faster with higher airflow. If you reduce the temp and time just a bit, it might replicate the oven baking.

      • Blasphemy! An airfryer is a magical device that actually fries the food without oil. Nothing at all like an oven! :‑J

      • +1

It's because most people don't actually use the temp setting on their air fryers haha

I've seen so many friends just turn it on max for everything and complain when something gets burnt 🙄

    • +1

I agree with that. I airfried the burgers and while they did taste great they did end up a bit too crunchy. Will try cooking them in the oven next time. I really did like the taste though. At half price they are great value!

    • +1

I do then for the lower end of the suggested time in the airfryer, and on a lower rack and it works out nicely.

  • +1

Nice. I got them all last time and enjoyed, will get again. Surprising they are half price again only a few weeks later?

  • -1

Thought this was the same stuff they sell at Coles,Tasty Food Co., that stuff is horrible.

    • You can't get these at Coles

  • -5

Those chicken portions were very undercooked.. its not just a matter of reheat… you have to actually cook them… quality of chicken wasnt great imho

    • +15

Those chicken portions were very undercooked.. its not just a matter of reheat… you have to actually cook them…

Umm who said you only had to reheat them?

      • +8

lmao how are these people not dead

        • -1

Raw meat can be served in Australia as long as it has been frozen. Apparently it kills bacteria. I've had yukke in Australia and didn't die.

          • @belongsinforums: Why would frozen raw meat only be able to be served in Australia? What makes freezing meat in Australia so special? Especially when it's made overseas most of the time like I assume these frozen chicken patties are.

I'd assume freezing would kill some bacteria, but not all.

          • @belongsinforums: Raw chicken is not safe, even if it has been frozen

            • @Shitforbrains: Even raw eggs aren't safe

              • @belongsinforums: My grandma lived to the age of 80+ and i distinctly remember her eating raw eggs for breakfast.

Though she was eating fresh eggs. She lived in a farm where the chooks were free roaming.

                • -2

                  @xoom: Very cool granny 😎👵

                • +1

@xoom: I remember having "egg flips" as a kid. Basically a milkshake with a raw egg, vanilla and sugar. Never harmed us.

But then fast forward 30 years and my daughters bestie and her brother were hospitalised from eating raw cake batter. Salmonella poisoning. They were quite sick. Not sure if the eggs were old etc. But I am a bit more careful about letting the kids eat raw eggs now (even though ours come from our chooks bums and are always stored in the fridge).

    • +1

It says on the packaging "This is a raw product and must be fully cooked prior to eating."

      • -1

the other problem is the meat is very bloody and after cooking its very red instead of white… poor product, kfc is much better quality and thats saying something…

        • +1

Yes meat has blood. On other news, water is wet.

        • I think that's not blood, but sauce, assuming you're cooked it hot enough

    • Literally says that on the instructions.

  • +12

Louisiana burger in the air fryer, 15-17 mins on 200.
Chuck it on an aldi brioche nun, add mayo and a bit of lettuce.
I've legit had nothing come as close to KFC, and I legitimately prefer this over KFC. So much crispier and tasty, while having seasoning taste identical.
    Can't recommend enough!

    • That's exactly how we made ours - replace lettuce with coleslaw

    • +3

      Am hungry after reading this

    • How many Patties in each packet? I’m a planner haha

      • +2

Haha its usually 5. But sometimes if the patties are smaller you might get 6. Get a few bags while on sale, won't regret!

        • Thank you !!! Will do!!!

    • +2

Chuck it on an aldi brioche nun

Followed instructions, got thrown out of convent.

  • I went back and bought what was left after the last time they where on sale, that being said, they are best in an airfryer as they have a fair bit of oil in them that needs to drain.

  • +1

I tried one of each last time and liked the Nashville one over others because it's spicy. Worth a try if you like KFC's hot and spicy.

  • -1

Packed in New Zealand from multiple origins

    Yummy Chinese chicken?

    • +1

Package says made with 100% NZ raised cage-free chickens.

  • +2

Third time in a row they've gone on sale for half price at the end of the month now - could've saved on freezer space and not have to stock up on so many packets last time around if I knew this was going to be a recurring thing!

  • +2

Health star 3 and 3.5 are only reason for me to avoid..have decided to not use anything below 4

    • +6

Not saying your wrong in this case but the health star is not always a good indicator of what's healthy or not.

      eg

      https://shop.coles.com.au/a/national/product/extra-virgin-ol…

extra virgin olive oil 3.5 stars

      • They explanation for why that product had only 3.5 is a little science.

In its category of "cooking oil", the 5 star options with lowest saturated fats and highest "healthy" fats are canola oil and sunflower oil.

The "best" extra Virgin olive oil is 4 stars. Lower than canola and sunflower due to EVOO has higher saturated fat. The HSR algorithm does not include the various health claims of either oil, it's only looking at the macro nutrient profile.

The Coles product has more saturated fat than other brands of olive oil. Unknown, but perhaps it's blended with some pure olive oil, or its processed more, or its a cheaper grade rejected by another brand.

Overall, the HSR algorithm has used evidence from the supplier to place the Coles EVOO to about middle of the range within it's category.

    • +9

The health star system is a joke and is part of the reason so many people are confused when buying healthy food. It uses an algorithm to determine how healthy a product is, but is often misguided by ultra-processed foods that have reduced sugar, salt and fat to obtain a higher rating.

For example low-fat flavoured milk gets a 5 star despite having 27 grams of sugar, Greek yogurt has 1.5 stars because it contains a high amount of saturated fat. Which is healthier?

Salmon gets 2 stars due to high fat, even though its high content fat is known to help reduce heart disease and has a minimal effect on blood sugar levels.

Then you have things like oat and honey tiny teddies with 4 stars, battered chicken nuggets at 3.5, reduced fat ice cream at 4.5 ect.

      • +3

and cereals like Milo having 4 stars despite being entirely sugar and wheat. The system is a joke.

  • +1

Pretty good only critique is excessively salty even in taste.

  • +2

As a fried chicken connoisseur, i wouldn't recommend the burgers or the pieces. The pieces are terrible. The burgers are okay but aldi shits all over these hands down (both Aldi's frozen and thawed chicken burgers).

Australia used to get different nz frozen chicken which is god tier but they stopped exporting during covid.

    • +1

Does anywhere sell chicken pieces like these?

      • -1

I don't know. I just rate KFC higher, and i don't even like kfc that much. God tier chicken can be found at hot star and any korean chicken joint in Australia

        • +6

Yeah good luck finding a kilo of chicken portions for $7 at a Korean chicken joint. High quality chicken at high price.

These are frozen chicken pieces for low price. They shouldn't even be compared to the refrigerated chicken portions at Woolies (although they're better than them). I'd be quite concerned if a chicken joint had worse chicken than a frozen bag from Woolies.

    • +1

What don't you like about the pieces?

      • +2

They tasted like someone else described here last deal: chicken bits glued onto a bone. Was a bit too juicy, texture was wrong, and taste wasn't to my liking. Burgers were also overly juicy but texture was a lot better

        • +1

Did you cook it properly atleast? Depending on how you cooked it, results will vary. Sounds more like you just blasted it in the microwave which will result in the meats congealing.

        • +1

Maybe they should glue a bun to the chicken and glue tiny sesame seeds onto the bun.

Considering this is my invention I will call this a chicken burger.

          Edit. It's not glueton free.

        • +1

Maybe you just like overcooked chicken

    • +1

I also didn't enjoy the burger ones and I am big on any fried chicken.

  • I enjoyed them last time.
    Louisianna was too spicy though

    • +2

IMO, Louisianna is quite mild, Nashville is spicier. 🥵

      • Not sure , but one was very spicy

        • Nashville has actually got a decent amount of heat to it which pleasantly surprised me. More than KFC's or RR hot and spicy I reckon.

  • Town Hall woolworth don't have these :(

  • Great timing, loved the burgers last time and made some into sushi rolls.

With KFC dropping the cheap as chips meal and also charging 50c per tender I’ll be stocking up on these.

    • My local store dropped cheap as chips about 3 or 4 months ago despite the stores around it keeping it in the menu, and it came back on the weekend !!!

      • Have you updated to the new app?

        • It just updated overnight, WTF :-(

  • +1

These make decent fakeaway. Of course, if you're going to a legitimate chicken shop (not KFC lol) it'll be better. For $7 though can't complain.

Not enough room in freezer to comfortably fit another pack yet, otherwise I would buy again.

  • +1

Way better than any take away
Cook them at 200 in the air fryer until crispy
Gonna fill the freezer like I did last deal, I got 7 packs in last time but this time I'll prepare and eat all the other worthless food first to make enough space

    • How many minutes do you cook the Nashville ones for at 200 in the air fryer?

  • Ya'll need to invest in a chest freezer by the sounds.
Definitely stocking up on the burgers. Potato bun, hi melt cheese, pickles, coleslaw and siracha mayo.
Wasn't too much of a fan of the pieces personally.

    • Sounds like I should try the burgers. The standard pieces were very bland last time and wouldn't buy again.

    • Is high melt cheese code for the plastic McDonald’s looking stuff which is delicious?
