[Back Order] AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor $609 + Delivery ($0 to MEL Metro) @ PLE

870

My First post.

Just spot this deal. Think this is the best price ever. Personally, I will wait for 7X3D next year. The 5800X3D is still one of the best CPUs for gamers.

Update: Currently out of stock, product is now on back-order. ETA is unknown

Great price! as someone who bought a 5800x at launch I wish I waited for this version.

  • +4

Great chip. I'll stick with my old 8700k though. Still does the job.

    • Stick with 8700 as well.

      • -1

I’ll stick to whatever till the 8700X comes out. 😆

    • Same, got it OC to 4.9 and TIM replaced with liquid metal. Never goes above 54 degrees.

      • I might need to do that, mine regularly hits 90c with a good AIO.

        • Do it, it's game changing and probably added another 2 years of life to my aging system. Delid tools are pretty cheap on ebay and the whole process took less than 10mins. Plenty of great guides on Youtube for how to do this on the 8700K

      • Delided?

        • +1

they meant their 8700k, in case if you got confused

      • +1

Got mine going 5.2 after being delidded. Been doing that for years but thinking about getting the 7800X3D or whatever they call it. Most import thing is to get rid of this 1070.

        • In the same boat. This gen was going to be the one i upgraded from my 1070. After Nvidia announced their prices though, maybe not. Hoping AMD have more realistic pricing or i'll have to settle for a cheap 3xxx/6xxx series card

          • +1

@Yastiandrie: I'm in the same boat. 1080 here, ready for a new system. But 40 series is looking disappointing.

            • @nuttapillar: The pricing of the skus is so annoying I was ready for the big cost after not upgrading for so long and hodling thru the crypto prices craziness. Feels to me like I'm getting pushed to 4090 but the cost is astronomical. Might try get a second hand 3090 or something since I have a 4k 165hz monitor. 1070 plays warzone at like 40-50fps in 1440p res which is horrible was of the monitor. Can't even get dota2 on ultra to stay over 120.

              • @Noppy: I was thinking of going for a 3090 as well, now that prices are dropping on those. I was gonna go for 4K, but now I might just go for a 1440p ultrawide instead, so it should be fine.

                • @nuttapillar: Go 4K. I just love the height over the 1440p ultrawide.

    • +3

      Stuck with my 5900x

      • +1

Are your really missing out? I assume you don't game at 720, 1080 resolution :D

    • +2

And a Mule can get you to work.

The x3d's game benefits aren't apparent by looking at some of the other raw stats.

Witness the gap to even 12900's

      https://forums.flightsimulator.com/uploads/default/original/…

      • +1

My mule still kicks hard enough.

      • +2

Wow, the 1% low for the 5800xd is better than the avg for the 12900k. That's bloody impressive.

    • I have Intel Core i7-5820K (Core 2 Duo: Q3-2014 Baby!) still running with 1080ti….Worth but prob will pull the trigger on 5700x…
Play Rust max detail every day :)

  • +1

    Tempting.
Currently have a 5600, I'll stick with it for now

    • Same, but could do with an extra two cores

      • +4

If it's just the extra cores you want, the 5700X is far cheaper at ~$370 at many places.
The real benefit of the 5800X3D is the 3D cache which gives massive gains in many games, provided your GPU can keep up

        • I'm waiting for the 5700x to tank in price to replace my 1700. I'll bite for $300. Still a 65w part too!

          • +1

@butter: Very happy with the 5700x, trivial to get it running all day at 4.8 on most cores.

    • +2

Same on 5600 don't think worth upgrade yet the difference of like $380

      • Just got a 5700x for $300 as I scored a $90 gift card for a userinterviews survey, so not worth it for me.

    • On 5600x as well. Totally not worth the upgrade unless you can sell it for like 200$ at least.

    • +1

I got one to replace my 5600x because i had a 240hz screen + 3080 at the time and wanted the highest average and low fps possible. It was a huuuuge upgrade. Some specific games minimum fps increased by 40odd fps in 1440p

      • Interesting. What games if you don't mind? I only have a 3060ti. Wondering if it's worth the upgrade at anytime in the future of this gets cheaper.

  • -1

    oofft. mega tempted

    • Don't forget 1.3% CB with CR

  • +5

If this drops to 400$, I might upgrade my 3700X to this instead of 7X3D

    • +3

Yeah feels like $4-500 is the right spot, hope it gets there eventually. Benchmarks show there are still some games it outperforms even the new AM5 chips, but not many

      • +1

Overseas retailers already dropped the price to $500 last week. I think we need to wait weeks for the price change.

        • +1

$500 of our dollars? That would be pretty sweet for this.

      • While the clear path for AMD is 7X3D to compete with intel 13th gen, will be curious how they handle the extra heat. Already the 7000 series runs hotter and with higher TDP.

        • +2

I think a few reviewers mentioned lowering the voltage decreases power consumption and heat drastically, for not much performance loss.
TechYes did it for the 7950x here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JiYAwKIHRY

        • Apparently if you run it in ECO mode you get 95% of the performance at much lower power and temps. I guess they wanted the Best Numbers with the default config.

    • You can't upgrade your 3700x to a 7x3d. Different sockets.

      • +1

Thats the reason I said I would upgrade to this instead of 7X3D.

      • What's the matter, McFly, are you chicken?

    • Same here, running a 3700x and 2070 super.
Don't plan on shelling out for 7000 series, mobo and DDR5, but upgrading to the latest/last series of CPU for AM4 socket would be good for longevity and value, though my 2070 super will need an upgrade to get the most out of it, so perhaps I'll upgrade both when these hopefully drop further in price.

      • Same thing, but GTX 1080. Will need to upgrade both.

  • +3

also on scoptec for same price + delivery
    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/cpu/amd-socket-am4/96438…

    • Sold out from Scorptec everywhere 29/09 @ 5:22pm!

  • Im running a R5 2600 currently in a B450m mortar (non max). With the requisite bios update will this just drop straight in no issues?

    • +2

Should be fine with the latest BIOS update. However, you should check the motherboard manufacturer's product support page to make sure.

    • +2

B450M does support R7 with Bios update.

      Please refer to this.

      • Thanks!

        • Doesn't mean you should do it though.

Just be careful of vrm limitations and heat output. It will post, and work if the motherboard manufacturer says so, but that doesn't mean it's a good match.

          Have a look here:

          https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d9_E3h8bLp-TXr-0zTJF…

I'd say the 5800x3d is a step too far for a b450m mortar and I'd go with a 5700x in your case.

    • +1

I have the exact same mobo and just upgraded to a 5700x with no issues at all

  • What's the value proposition for this? Is it really worth double over the 5600x?

    • +1

I would say no if those $$ will give you a higher tier graphics card

    • Do you feel the 5600X is not fast enough? If yes, change it.

Do you spend heaps of time on MMORPG or Online games? Yes, worth to consider an upgrade.

      Otherwise, stick with the 5600X.

      • Been on the fence with this over the past few months. Definitely don't 'need' it per se (already have a 5600x/6900xt combo and it runs great) but wanted something a bit faster for 4x and apparently helps with late game scenarios with Stellaris etc.

        Purchased (from Scorpy)

    • Depends, for gaming I would say yes if you already have a high end GPU as it goes toe to toe with an i9 12900K in many scenarios.

    • +1

I would assume you are talking about 1080p gaming? I don't see which scenario this would makes a difference if your 5600x can't get the job done. Which at that point the gpu is already the bottle neck

      • +1

1440p gaming with plans to buy a 4k oled when they're available

        • +2

Don't bother then, 5600x is plenty for those resolutions.

        • +1

with higher resolution, your GPU does strain a lot more, though better CPU means more smooth frame time consistency and can give you a competitive edge over fast action competitive titles.

(Note better frametime consistency doesn't necessarily mean better FPS)

depends on the type of game you play.

      • eSports games are usually CPU bottlenecked

    • If you have a high end GPU plus play CPU intensive games then maybe.

    • I'm the worst when it comes to value for money upgrades. I started from a R5-2600, upgraded to an R5-3600, then to a 5600x and now to a 5800X3D each time selling the old chip and making a loss. Don't even ask about my GPU upgrades that's even worse lol..

      • sorry to jump in. is the upgrade from 5600x to 5800x3d noticeable?

        • For gaming yes but for anything else probably not. The benchmarks online vs the top Intel CPU's speaks for itself.

  • No thanks. Stick with my $350
    5700x

  • +1

From the LTT videos. This seems to keep up or get close enough to the next generation of AMD CPUs. Whilst keeping DDR4 and current cheaper motherboards.

    • This actually trade blows with their latest offering, for gaming you should not upgrade from this to the latest ryzens.

    • do note it only gets close in gaming and other single threaded tasks.

    • It's actually faster than the 7k series in some games. Hilariously. Using far less power too.

      • I expect ongoing BIOS upgrades will lower power draw for the 7 series. It'll all sort itself out.

  • +5

Man this CPU is so damn expensive still. Thought it would've fallen more since the release of the 7000 series. Better off just getting the 5800X which has hit as low as $400 already. The performance gains between the 5800X and the 5800X3D isn't worth the $209 premium IMO

    • +2

This is the last AM4 CPU that games well. Tons of users want to upgrade to this instead of spending lavishly on AM5 mobo and DDR5 for the same gaming performance. Not sure when it will drop to 400s.

    • +1

It has become a halo product for gaming. The 5800x3d is holding its own against current Ryzen 7000. Also holding its own against Intel 13th gen based on their official presentation.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments/xpmc9q/whats_up_with…

    • The usual thing where retailers already have stock and they don't want to take a bath on the US discounted price.

    • +6

      Do you have the stupid?

    • +3

This could be the most ill informed comment I have ever read on OzBargain. Congrats :)

    • +2

Have you not watched the latest benchmarks ?

    • Zen 3 architecture was debuted in November 2020, just under 2 years ago.

    • The last CPU to make an innovation for gaming performance was the 5800X3D. You could argue the 7000 series without 3D are using old design.

    • the "x3d" is a newer model with a very fancy trick or two up it's sleeve. It's outperforming the new series in many games, particularly single core bound ones.

      https://forums.flightsimulator.com/uploads/default/original/…

  • This is gonna be an excellent upgrade to my 3600 which has been getting slow in any games with RT!

Thanks heaps for sharing the deal :). I've ordered!

  • +3

Extra $100 down and I'd buy it, maybe on black friday?

    • +1

Yep, still a touch too expensive.

      • +1

I agree. Unless you spend the majority of your time playing games that love the cache, then it's still not worth the jump over the more budget-friendly 5600.

  • +2

Out of stock now but scorptec have it for the same price at $609. It came out cheaper for me with them including shipping at $619.

  • This is so tempting.

  • This would be the ultimate gamer coup for who still want to get the last drop of life of the am4.

I would say buy this and get the best ram you can afford. Skip the whole 7000 you are golden

    • Yeah, this and a 3080 will keep you 1440p gaming for a half decade.
