      • I'd rather not part with the money at all really. App also offers more features than the stock youtube app.

    • I find it to be slow and buffers quite a bit vs normaal youtube

  • Android based devices are poor when it comes to deinterlacing. Some can't do it at all.

    How is this thing?

  • Can you lay one of these flat?

    • +1

Mine live flat for past two years.

  • I have a Sony x8500d which I moved upstairs for the klds. I think it's 5 years old? Anyway it's always annoyed me and it's so slow with it's android operating system and slow input.

Would buying one of these solve the issue as all apps would go through the Nvidia Shield? In saying that is the shield also the best thing for me to buy for this Sony X8500D or would something else be worth it?

    • +2

100% yes. This thing runs just as well as the newest flagships.

Do yourself a favour. Buy one. Factory reset the TV. Install Shield. Be amazed.

      • Ok, will do. thank you for the info.

      • The shield runs better than all the flagship TVs. Most reviewers and enthusiasts recommend using these instead of the TVs OS.

  • Shield TV Pro 4K is great if you want to host a plex server using 2 portable hhd.
Does anyone know if it uses a lot of electricity when it is on standby?
It doesn't have a power off button.

    • Approximately 2W in standby.

      • 3W based on this article:
        https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_shield_android_…

In sleep it mode the box consumes 3 Watts (which actually is on the high side for a product in sleep mode). Sitting and waiting in an idle mode roughly 4~5 watts, Kodi 4k movie playback while transferring its data over NAS / Ethernet consumes roughly 7 Watts and GeForce Now game streaming give or take 8 Watts. Once you use the WIFI connection at say 5G add another 2 Watts to these numbers. If you power down the unit; it draws less than 1 Watt.

    • It uses bugger all i put a power meter on it and my oled and combined the idle use was low enough (a few w) for me to not care. Granted your threshold may be lower than mine.

  • How does this compare to the Apple TV? I've got a 2017 Apple TV 4K, but considering purchasing one of these bad bois after seeing it at a mates. Has anyone tried both and if so what did you conclude?
