    Is this very smoky?

    • +3

      Yes

      • Thanks for the heads up.

    you have to accept it

Yeah nah, plenty of better options for that price.

    • Any suggestions?

Scotch is entirely subjective, but both of these are infinitely better to my palette. And also weren't $90 two years ago.

@henno: tbh I even found the ardbeg 10 to be better than the lagavulin. Haven't had a chance to try the pricier versions but sometimes there are advantages to ignorance…

            • @mit: I prefer the Lagavulin, but not at this price. The 12 year is my favourite and even more expensive again 😢

              • @Cyb3rGlitch: You talking about the Diageo annuals? Definitely better at CS.

                Offerman was great too.

                • @kickling: Yep that's the one. I guess they differ by year but I've liked the bottles I've tried.

      • Kilchoman Sanaig - a delicious and well regarded peated, sherry cask from Islay

Simply don't buy at these prices. Prices will naturally come down. Finances 101.

Whisky inflation running @ 25-75% and the pound is down the gurgler.
@paddywide, I don't have to accept it, I can make my own… ethanol in a burnt barrel for a decade, or ethanol in a barrel with some wood chips for 2yrs.
I've got home brew wine which blows everything I tasted out of the water, and the wine is inferior to my lagers/ales and my apple + rose hips cider.

This stuff goes great with LA ice cola

    Not a bargain at 142.

    Thanks, I won't accept it

    $139.99 Dan Murphy

    • Wow really? This is no deal then…

      • some may argue $2 for free delivery is not that bad.

        • Yeah but I wont impulse buy a deal because the delivery fee is essentially only $2.

It was $98+ $4 service fee back in August, I got my local Dan's to price match. $109 back in June.

Depending on how much you are willing to wait, I'd expect it to hit $110 again in the next month or two.

I got it yesterday for $109 from Sip n Save here in ADL after a 20% off coupon code.

What's wild is that you can find Lagavulin Distillers Edition for $185 in some places lol.

    • Is that better or worse than age statements?

      • Not better or worse. Just different

      • +2

I think better - its Lagavulin 16 that's been finished for an extra 6 months in sherry casks.

  • I accidentally tick "I am associated with Amazon AU", how can I cancel it?

    • Delete the comment man lol

  • $180 is the RRP right now, am I wrong?
To those who find lower price, so it was the bargain too, but $142 is still bargain at this moment.
To those who find the alternative for this price. That is another option, you also can find alternative for alternative. We are talking about Lagavulin 16 here.

  • I don't think $142 from Amazon is a bargain. But gosh I do love this scotch. I wonder about buying substantial amounts to last me years of occasional sipping.

  • If you can get this bottle for close to $100-$110, I'll consider that a bargain.

I tend to buy bottles around the $100 mark, so in comparison to other age statement whiskey bottles that retail for around $100 (currently), I would rate it up there as my top 3 to always have in my spirit cabinet. It is not often you can get it for close to $100 but if they do, I would snap buy a couple for sure.

I don't find the Laga16 overtly peaty like a Laphroaig 10 or Ardberg 10, and it has a full bodied, long lasting mouth taste with some sweetness present.
Not a whiskey novice's first bottle to try, but buy it for when your taste buds matures in a few years time. You'll appreciate it then.

  • Damn it's that expensive now? Probably shouldn't have been mixing it with coke on the weekend.

  • Just shop at Nicks wines online and buy what they have on sale. No website shop in Australia has a bigger range or more information on what they sell, their prices are very good, and they are genuinely an independent small business! They're based in Doncaster.
