It just tastes like any other peanut butter? Maybe it was the a one I got, but the hype didn't live up

There isn't much in 2022 that is as good as 'the good old days' of the 1960s, but Mayver's Peanut butter is definitely the exception. It's even better than the old fashioned Peanut Paste of the late 1950s and early 1960s topped with peanut oil from various prominent Australian brands as was, ETA and Daffodil come to mind. Kudos indeed. And the number of varieties available is fabulous. My favourite Mayver's however is still the venerable Crunchy, although the Crunchy Dark Roast gets an honourable mention as runner up. Mayver's Tahini range is exceptional too if you like Tahini.
@odal: I've bought 2 jars, both had so much salt it was disgusting. I guess there's a reason not much food from the 1950's still exists.

Yes i agree, in fact i think this is the worse peanut butter you can buy.
I"m happy with coles brand. Same as the fuss with Bon Soy milk. Tried both mavyers peanut paste and bonsoy milk. Don't see much difference
Coles brand PB has a high % of veg oil. Mayvers is 99.3% PB.
Only 1.8 saturated fat and as i never use any other oil except extra virgin olive oil and peanut paste quantities are so small it's not an issue for me. Coles PB 85% nuts
I personally think the Bega 'Simply Nuts' range is better - with the added benefit of using Australian produce.
Although Bega unfortunately discontinued their dark roast version, so this Mayver's is the fallback option now for that specific variety.
It is NOT in a plastic container. Peanut butter is very hot when poured into container and if plastic some plastic leeches into the mix.

Care to explain what that bigger picture is? If I was going to intention pay for overpriced groceries, I'd shop at IGA to at least support local. If Coles and Woolworths couldn't afford to sell half price peanut butte, then they wouldn't be doing it…
You should be buying the Sanitarium Natural Peanut Butter then as it is completely 100% nuts. No added anything, not even salt like the Mayvers has.
Excellent point! I had forgotten about the salt. But peanut butter without salt is like coffee without the caffeine — just 100% nuts

I have half a jar left over a year and the oil has separated.You just have to mix it back in. Oil will always separate with natural peanut butter.
I store mine upside down to make things easier when it comes time to open the jar.
mine is upside down and peanut seems all clumped near the lid
