*Decent ratings for what it is & price:

*One review said no Linux support, FYI.

    • -1

      No Linux? gross

    • +2

      Nah, should work fine.

      • Reviewer stated no to three main distros w/Ubuntu messaging him there's no support. What are you running it on successfully and how/where did you get drivers? Ta.

  • +28

No video decoder, requires PCI-4.0 for it to perform on the same level as a RX480/580/5500XT no thanks
Look for a second hand RX6600 that's more then twice as fast. They sometimes go for $299 new

    • +1

Yeah, this is a complete waste of time.

    • +1

The RX 6600 isn't twice as fast with PCIe 4.0, but it's not too far off either. When you consider the cost of an entire PC, the extra $100-150 for the 6600 upgrade is a no brainer.

A used 1650 Super or RX 580 are good allternatives for the same price

You can get a used 1660 Super for about $220 on eBay

    • +2

On a good day, you can score a GTX 1080 for $200 - $250 on gummie & FB

      • +1

GTX 1080 for $200 seems a stretch. I picked up an 8GB GTX 1070 from eBay for $179 + $15 delivery a couple of weeks ago though; I'd go with that over the other options.

        • +1

I picked one up last week for $200 believe it or not. Gigabyte Xtreme GTX1080. Cheers

        • +1

Nah if you keep your eyes peeled you can grab 1080s or 1070tis for the $200 mark. I got a 3070 for $450, and a 3070ti for $400 was snaffled up before I could get to it. Just set alerts on facebook.

    • I got a 1660 super for $289 new. So I would think that the price should drop on second hand ones soon

      • They’ve steadily dropping like all other cards. I think the 1660 is a pretty good value option at the moment. I remember when they were $600-$700 used during the peak of the crypto craze.
But yeah keep waiting , it’s only going to get better

  • +8

If you have waited this long, RX 6600 with double the performance will be sub $300 by Black Friday, so the 6500 XT is a max $150 card

In the current market this is a hard avoid people, spend a little more money on a LOT more video card.

    No encoder
Severely limited pci-e bus, hampering outright performance, especially on pci-e gen 3.0 systems
4GB VRAM is far too little - even AMD themselves said it's not enough prior to the release and dealt with it awkwardly

I wouldn't reward them for making this card exist, almost no matter the price.

    • Firstly I think you make some good points, and I agree that 4gig not really enough in 2022. when this card was released there was very little available new. ( Rx550, gt1030 yeah right try gaming on them) I think It filled a huge gap in the market.

It's basically the cheapest gaming card available, yeah it's a bit nasty and there is one or 2 new games you can't play on it. But I really don't think it deserves the hate.

Maybe if you could buy a 6600 or 3050 (new) for $250 I would admit that no-one should buy this card.

      • Honestly for 100 or so more, a 6600 is so worth it over this abomination. Going on twice as fast, for not twice as much money, double the VRAM, double the pci-e lanes, a useable encoder, I even thought that card was meh when it launched until the 6500XT came out and made it look excellent in comparison. The 5500XT even fares better when it starts getting pushed.

They took advantage of a borked market and released a chip never meant to be a desktop part, and it shows. I stand by what I said, don't reward them for making it.

Perhaps at maaaaybe $130 or less I could begrudgingly recommend it as an ultra budget entry level type thing, but to anyone wanting to actually have a good time gaming, not run mud spec textures through a ridiculously hampered pci-e bus and memory subsystem, it's SO worth spending more to get more, because you really do get so much more value in features, longevity, and actual performance per dollar spent.

It seems appealing at first, but in the context of ex mining cards soon flooding the market and a long list of corner cutting:

    • Only 4GB VRAM
    • Narrow 64-Bit memory interface
    • No video encoding
    • No AV1 decoding
    • Needs PCIe 4th gen for full performance, not a good upgrade option for older systems
  • +5

Avoid this card like the plague.

  • +2

Definitely get the RX 6600 if you can, but if you're dead set on this, please make sure you get a PCIE 4 compatible Motherboard and CPU. Probably a budget h610 Motherboard with the i3 12100f and you should be good to go.

  • +3

Still feeling good about the 6700xt at $530 I got.

    • +1

+1. Best value to performance, well for me anyway. Even if it drops sub 500, no worries. Just listed my 1650 Super on eBay!

    • +1

I'm feeling you there. not quite sub $500 for 6700xt but damn near close enough to make it worth it and it han't hit that price again for the last month. Given the decrease in the value of the dollar we may not see them coming down to much more if additional cards are not already onshore.

  • Can this play Roblox

    • +3

      No, but you can

  • +1

Ideally this would be best matched with an inexpensive but decent CPU like i3-12100 or i5-11400 non-F versions as they have PCIe 4.0 and have integrated graphics with AV1 decoding etc. to make up for this GPUs shortcomings. It doesn't make much sense elsewhere

  • +1

ITT some excellent reasons to read through the comments on a deal before pulling the pin. This is the reason I love OB, legitimate helpful advice.

    • I was expecting to see the amd fans dropping the usual insistence that rtx and dlss arent relevant to your purchasing choice and/or actual performance, but even they cant defend this abortion of a card.

  • +2

Nah, don't shoot yourself in the foot by purchasing this. Absolutely terrible performance for a current gen card, and for a pcie gen 3 system (which this would most likely be purchased for) it barely keeps up with a rx570. If you need something for basic gaming either buy a second hand AMD polaris GPU or stretch for a rx6600.

  • +1

There are used 5600 or even 5700 on sale for not much more… This cards definitely not a bargain at even this price.

  • oui oui this card is les horriblé and is more terriblé than a rx 480 from 5 years ago, madon!
