    The webcam pandemic is over

    Pro

    1080p30

does this mean its better to wait for the streamcam? I mean I dont care about refresh rate that much as Im not going to record videos with it but but this seems a bit low for a supposed 'pro model' no? Even my current ROG eye (and that have a tinyass sensor) does 1080p60. Im just looking for a decent webcam that can handle low light conditions well. Any pointers? would waiting for a streamcam deal the better pick for me?

Maybe a $12 selfie light is all you need? Spend the savings on hookers and cocaine.

Or start of and make the mulahs.

      • Fair enough, I dont really want extra stuff on my already cramped desk but I guess theres no cheaper and more convinent solution than this.

buy a cheap $2 rechargable torch light n blue tack them on your monitor :D

@squidz: thats a good idea haha. just gonna find a weaker one with light that doesnt kill my eyes.

            • @Brrrrt: the trick is shine them off ceiling or wall….
the bounced light should make it natural enough :)

            • @Brrrrt: Tape on some baking paper to diffuse the light 🙉

    • Creative Labs webcams are probably best value, even at RRP, and they have a deal at the moment for the older webcam (in using that one)

      • Which one of the Creative ones do you recommend? I see they now have a V3.

Am I crazy, or are webcam prices insane?

Think they're bad now, you should have seen the prices during the Monkeypox epidemic.

You think they were bad then, you should have seen the prices during the Ebola scare

Yes. This product is a decade old, and was under $100 back then

This is the tech I like.

Solid and still selling, unlike other tech such as TV's changing every damn year

    • Probably not a good thing when premium prices are still being charged for this kind of old tech.

      • yes but im still bummed how fast they discontinue tv's then release a slightly improved bumped up premium again
(at least phone models production run for a few years before phase out)

mind you i'd still be fine paying for an 2020 LG CX 55" if they were still available from mainstream retailers

        • Well in that case keep an eye out for half price Philips OLEDs, once they reach our shores their LG panels are a couple years behind.

        • yes but im still bummed how fast they discontinue tv's then release a slightly improved bumped up premium again

          I feel ya.

I just want a basic TV that does the job preferrably without crappy software (had a Soniq and software/interface was POS, but I had no issue with video).

Recently bought a Hisense - it is a smart TV, but heaps better than the Soniq faux Smart TV I had.

But at the end of the day, I'd have been happy to buy a new 2-3 year old top brand model if the price was right, but they just don't seem to operate that way.

Save some money and get a second-hand C920. Plenty on FB marketplace

    • The problem is most second hand sellers are selling priced (presumably) on the fact they paid a premium during covid.

Just searched prices around melbourne and most are in the $70-80 with a number prices at $100+.

Thought I saw a good bunch around $50 in NSW.

I did get my c920 for $25 though.

        • Yep, I have definetly seen the odd one reasonably priced, but it's crazy the amount of people out there that overvalue this sort of thing, even charging more than buying new. Bit of a laugh.

$25 is definitely more reasonable. Haha.
