  • How is the quality in a kit like this? Keen to give one a go.

    • +12

I've bought this exact kit and have been using it over the last few months as a beginner to electrical circuits, and so far all the components have been fit for purpose… the purpose being to learn about and interact with the different components. Obviously some components will be of cheap quality, such as the servos, but overall I love the range it comes with. I'm sure you can get cheaper if sourced individually, but $60 for the lot is great for the convenience.

One thing I'll say is I quickly stopped using the tutorials it came with as it wasn't as beginner friendly as expected imo, even with some prior coding knowledge. For anyone purchasing this kit, Paul McWhorter has a fantastic YouTube series for beginners to Arduino for both programming and circuitry explanations, and actually uses an Elegoo kit + tutorials to explain. Very engaging videos, and prompts you to experiment and independently learn concepts too!

      • appreciate the comments… cheers

Check my other comment if you want some more details, but for the price, these kits are the best you can get. Quality is curious on some parts, but mostly no issues.

This is my least favourite of the Lego sets.

  • What is it? Just components or a diy build?

    • Embedded Arduino development starter kit.

    • +3

Components with instructions on how to put them together to do some simple things. The purpose is learning how to use Arduino and electronics.

Scroll down the Amazon page for images on what the setup looks like.

No idea what that is or what it does but I'm pretty sure I need one.

    • +4

I got one in 2019 and I'm sure I'll use it one day. Used a LED from the kit for a different project, so literally paying for itself.

Does anyone know the difference between the kit in the deal, and this one? Seems to be all the same components https://www.amazon.com.au/ELEGOO-Project-Complete-Starter-Tu…

    • Looks like the boards are a little bigger, so maybe more suitable for more complex projects?

    • Worked it out, cheaper one has a Uno R3, more expensive has a Mega 2560 R3, which apparently is slightly more powerful

      • +1

Functionally, the uno is just fine. The mega is probably overkill for 99% of projects.

  • This looks like the sort of thing I'll play with when I'm old and retired.

Bought 40 of the larger UNO kits a few months ago (I used them in my classes). Have been watching these for about a year and can confirm now is a good time to buy.

I recommend the larger UNO kit if your keen: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07729RN7M/ref=emc_b_5_t

Or the smaller UNO kit if you want to save some money and it's your (or your kid's) first day: https://www.amazon.com.au/ELEGOO-Project-Starter-Tutorial-Ar…

Before buying, just keep in mind the breadboards are low quality and defective. They are fine for analog sensors and simple project, but you may run into some issues with digital modules (I2C, SPI, or UART) wired through them. Also, the relay in the kit is not usable without soldering. Other than that, you are looking at the cheapest and best value Arduino kits on the market, par none.

  • As a PSA for those with kids, these are the sort of kits that are used in technologies education from year 7 and in some cases earlier. Schools will either use Arduino (like in this product) or 'microbit'. These kits are a great, safe way to get into electronics, robotics, and programming.

If and when you want different parts/modules to play with, Jaycar has just about everything. If you know what you are looking for, eBay is good too and much cheaper.

  • I've used a few of these sorts of kits before. eBay or AliExpress will be much cheaper (check if there is widely available documentation before you buy as the documentation can be the main thing that's lacking)

  • Good brand.

I use their photocuring resin for 3d printing, and it's one of the better cheap-mid priced brands (if you don't want to fork out for Sirayatech).

  • Didn't know I needed this until I saw the ozbargain post. Someone mentioned they're good for 7 years and up. Would that include 70 years and up?

  • Got it and the parts at Jaycar would be way more than the $58.
