All I can recommend to potential buyers is to do your research before grabbing one of these. Reviews and analysis from big names are up on youtube, when you factor in extra costs(DDR5 ram, compatible motherboard etc) theres plenty of argument to go intel or even a previous gen ryzen(personally I am aiming for a 5800X3D going off LTTs latest video)

TLDR do your research, this isn't the cutting edge advancement like the older Ryzen releases, you may find better overall options for your use case.

    • Tell you what is cutting edge. RTX4090. Damn near 50-70% in some areas.

What’s the alternative par for par but cheaper with the Ryzen 7 7950x?

      • -1

It really depends on your use case, I recommend watching the LTT video to start off with and go from there.

      • The problem is most reviewers are comparing it to 3090Ti which is wrong. This is not a 4090 Ti, so it should to compared to 3090. And when you do so, its almost 70 to 80% faster than 3090. Thats impressive. You cant say the same about 4080 being that fast compared to 3080. Why? Because nvidia wants you to buy thier 4090 and wants to make the 90 series the new mainstream 80 series but with 2.5X the price of 80 series.

Don't forget these new 7000 series CPU run hot(use more power) too. Up to 95C. Great for Melbournians I suppose.

      • +1

That is only when you are running them at full workloads like rendering which most of us dont do. Not when gaming or general use where the temps are 50 to 60C with an average cooler.

      • +2

There's a lot of misinformation from social media about the temps and cooling required. Techpowerup did a good analysis of the CPUs with air and AIO water cooling.

        https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x-cooling…

      • That's the chip running at 95c, that doesnt mean it'll make your room hot. Not when the wattage on your gpu is likely double to quadruple that, that's what will make a difference.

Depends on your needs. If your a gamer the 5800X3D provides better value in relation to platform cost. However when the X3D versions of the 7000 series drop it could be a different story in terms of price to performance. Leaks have already suggested V2 of 3d cache could provide a big bump in performance.

If your a content creator the 7950x and 7900x provide a significant uplift in performance over previous generations, where the platform cost is negated.

      • Exactly, the big point here is it depends on your needs, I am not saying neither here nor there, just that people should research first before jumping on the latest and greatest, it may not be the best option.

      • 5800X3D is still the fastest CPU for gaming outright… but it isn't as good at productivity and multi threaded stuff but its still ok. Just depends on your use case.

        • +3

No, 7700X is the fastest as per the few reviews I have seen including HUB.

          • @John Doh: Yep i only saw a few games where the 5800x3d came out on top and few more that were close.

    • +1

This is good for people who are building a new PC. The platform upgrade cost would be justified with long term CPU upgrades one can make. Also you dont need super fast DDR5 memory, even entry level ones are good enough. Hope the B650 drop in price faster :)

    • Yeah it’s the same with gpu’s, price may be going down but I don’t regret buying my 60 Ti because any higher model and idve have to buy a new sfx psu

When something state of the art has just been released, and its already being discounted, it says they got something wrong.

Perhaps its extremely expensive new CPUs requiring extremely expensive new motherboards and RAM. And there's just not that many people who see a really big hit like that as what they are willing to pay for what they need.

    • +1

The comment would be relevant if it was discount provided directly from the resellers website, which is not the case.

      This is an eBay promotion.

Can’t wait to see what the Nvidia 4000 prices do. Will they stay the same or will they dive.

I believe this deal is part of a eBay discount. Not specifically a CPU discount.

      • The 4090 price movement could end up being quite different to the rest of the 4000 series pricing due to different market segment of machine learning, professional content producers willing to pay more than the rest of the 4000 series which will more target gamers perhaps?

        • I remember hearing that miners in Asia would walk in with bundles of cash and clear out the high end cards, now that's all over, I doubt gamers will be doing the same. There was a profit in owning a 3090, now the only profit in 4090 is normal ways of making money, like you said, graphics, machines learning etc Be good to see where it levels out.

      • I don't think 30xx series will change all that much in price. 4090 is much faster but it costs almost 3x a 3080 or 2-2.5x a 3090. With how much they're delaying time between product releases it really feels like nvidia's just waiting for 30xx stock to fully sell off before they start releasing 4070 and lower which will also have inflated pricing.

  • Get a Ps5 or upgrade my rig to 7000 series + Nvidia 4000 gpu?

    • Imo, upgrade rig. Considering some PS games are now also on PC, and you can always use your controller on the PC if needed. PC can also have multi-use for if you wanna stream or record gameplay. Or occassionally use creative suites.

Edit: Only speaking from experience as I have a PS5 and wish I'd upgraded my PC instead since I don't use my Ps5 and just play games on PC hahaha

    • +2

Not really a fair comparison when the PS5 will be a small fraction of the cost of a Ryzen 7000 + RTX 4000 build.

      • You can buy a switch, ps5, xbox series x and a steam deck for the same amount. Literally 4 whole consoles, or an entire midrange PC build.

  • 5800x3d > am5.
