Been waiting a while for a chance to grab the set with the offset and corner adapter. If you're not fussed you could grab the newer model below (similar specifications but with variable speed).

I wouldn't say "similar specifications". This one is fixed speed, the newer one is variable speed, trigger controlled. It makes all the difference in my opinion. Although if you want the tight space attachments, this is the one to get anyway

    • I've found that the offset attachments have been really useful.

    • Updated the description.

  • +3

These are brilliant, have had one for a few years. Almost enough to stop you hating assembly of flat pack furniture.

    • +2

flat pack, bosch and a few beers… what more can you ask for

  • +4
    • +2

Got that and got the Bosch version too. Never going back to having to manually change different bits like a sucker for small jobs.

      • Yep, best feature ever.

    • Same. Though it doesnt seem to hold the charge like it used to.

    • Anyone happen to know if/where you can buy the pilot hole starter drill bit that comes with the Worx? Been surprisingly useful where I'd put on into the Bosch too if I could buy it.

      • No idea sorry.
But I’d thought they are standard sizes?

  • Was tossing between the two, but I do like the one with a dedicated charger instead of just a micro USB cable

    • Interesting decision. What benefit does the dedicated charger provide?

      • I guess not needing to find a USB port to charge it and the dedicated charge would charge it quicker, I assume

        • I choose the 6 as I thought the variable speed would be more useful. The included adapters with the 5 would definitely have been useful on a few occasions.

I wasn't too concerned about the charger as I have so many already. Both look to be micro-usb. The 6 is advertised with a shorter charging time, btw.

        • The dedicated charger (if the same as the older kit which was posted over a year ago, with the rotary sheet cutter attachment) is 500mA output, so it's not a particularly fast charger.

          • @Domingo: Alright you guys convinced me, to get the new model

  • +2
    • Gosh that looks but is cheap

  • Ordered the pink VI. I do have a fair bit of furniture assembly in my future, but I also have a few things to do like wall mounting a TV and attaching shelves to walls. Am I better off getting something else instead/as well, or would this be able to handle it?

    • +1

I'm assuming you'll be wall mounting a TV into a brick wall - you won't be drilling into brick walls with this, you'll need a hammer drill

      • Drywall, so attaching to wood studs.

        • +5

I'd be very surprised if this was strong enough to mount a tv

          • -1

@teacherer: I'm really surprised how light my 55A7G is.
Weight is distributed across 4 points and pressure downward. Wall & studs should be strong enough.

        • +3

I'd recommend something a bit more powerful than this. This is designed for small, light work, Flatpack furniture will be fine, but you'll need to drill some reasonable size and depth screws in for a TV mount, which this may find difficult to manage.

          • +1

@DJ: Thanks, I might get this for furniture assembly and get something for attaching things to walls later.

    • +1

This is not a drill, it's a screwdriver. You might be able to drill small pilot holes, but it will be a bitch as the bits are only held magnetically. And you certainly won't be driving screws into timber. Trust me, I've tried. You need something like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/Bosch-Cordless-Driver-UniversalDri…

      • Thanks, ordered this one.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B082273DF7/

Seems to be the same as the one you linked, just a different model and half the price. I'm still going to get the one from the OP, even though this works as a screwdriver as well, as it seems to be about 25% of the weight.

        • That's probably good enough. I initially thought that the one I linked had two batteries like my older Bosch PSR1800, but that does not appear to be the case. The only difference I can see between the two is that the newer model has a light on the base that activates when pressing the trigger, and illuminates dark spaces. Mine has that too, but it also has a battery charge indicator at the base, which is missing in both those.

  • No drill??

  • So what one to get?? Ixo V or VI?

    • +2

The VI at that price doesnt come with the Angle Screw Adapter while the V does.

    • +2

Both can use the spice mill adapter ;-)

      • +2

Lol it's so stupid I need it

    • +3

The VI comes in pink. Why is this even a question?

  • What's the advantage of this over a cordless drill with a screwdriver bit?

    • +2

      Smaller. Lighter.
      So, less fatigue holding it.
      Can work in tighter spaces.

Accessories / Attachments, eg. spice mill

    • +2

Less weight and lighter duty/torque so less chance of stripping screw holes.

      • you can change the speed of cordless drill
you can also press the drill slow to prevent stripping screws..

these will be thrown away when the battery wears out.
cordless drill can get new battery.

cordless drill battery is also usually more capacity as well.
the battery is useable in other same brand devices

        • I see what you’re saying, but there is a place for each tool. Sure, if you’re only allowed one tool in the house for whatever reason AND have drilling needs you’d be better off owning just the drill.
But as someone who owns multiple sets of drills, impact drivers and cordless screwdriver, I’d reach for this when I need to assemble flat-packs.

          • @zonra: also depends how many flat packs you do
e.g. if your work is to assemble flat packs, then yeah cordless screw driver would probably best tool since it is lighter so less tiring to hold.

For general purpose screwing in stuff I prefer use the impact driver etc..

Own a few cordless screwdrivers and they are just junk now cos battery is dead
So prefer not to waste money on these which are quite expensive when you can get impact driver which is much better
and won't be thrown away when battery dies.

Sure, if you’re only allowed one tool in the house for whatever reason AND have drilling needs you’d be better off owning just the drill.

Yeah if they only want to buy few tools to save money, then drill is best since it can do both drilling and screwing (even if not as good as impact driver).

see what you’re saying, but there is a place for each tool.

            Yes this is true..
though I think impact driver is a much better purchase than these cordless screwdriver (and these are not cheap ie $60)
and it will last a long time.

Can buy a combo impact driver and cordless drill bundle for a good price maybe $120 etc..
and those two items last a long time compared to these throwaday cordless screwdriver (when battery dies)

It is actually not easy to strip screws unless you are an idiot and keeping trying to tightening it like many many many times intentionally
once it has already been tightened to the max.
Usually the first time once it is tightened the driver bit would just stop or skip out/over the screw

        • +1

I have an older Ixo that I bought over 12 years ago. I haven't used or charged it in years. A few weeks ago i picked it up and tried it without charging first, expecting the battery to be drained, but it still had charge. After charging it it's working like new. I wouldn't be too worried about throwing this away any time soon.

    • cordless drill usually has replaceable battery
these would likely be thrown away when it no longer holds a charge.

    • Yeah, I'd rather use an adapter with my drill than add another device which serves less than half the purpose of my existing drill.

  • This is a perfect tool that I have owned for a long time.
I remember I bought it from Masters after price match it to Amazon deals or something ages ago.

Still working until now and I often use it.

    • Which one do you have IXO V or IXO VI?

      • mine is the original IXO
it comes with a metal case.

        Love them

  • +1

Looks like the IXO VI has gone back to full price $79 for the black version. The Green is $55.30 and Pink is still $51.35

  • +2

The extra heads are quite expensive separately. The two that come with the V actually cost more than the V full set.

Wish the VI also had the option for a full set.

  • +2

    Each to their own.

I have one of these and I hate it. The lack of variable speed is a massive hit to it's usability. Used it a few times and it's basically sat on my shelf since I got it.

If I need fine control I'll use my ratcheting screwdriver. Otherwise I'll just use my drill.

  • Working too hard to rid myself of everything micro-USB… one port to rule them all! If the next gen comes up with USB-C I might consider it.

That goes for you too Kindle!

    • Time to upgrade that kindle!

  • Is the angle adapter interchangeable between these 2 models?

    • +1

Not 100% but think I read that the changed the attachment system so probably not.

    • The adapter is compatible with the IXO 4, 5 and 6. So the answer is yes.

  • -1

As far as I'm concerned the only reason to get these is for the offset and angle attachments - you can get it places where a normal cordless drill simply can't get to. But if that's not a concern, get a cordless drill, it will be far more versatile. Don't even bother getting the one without the attachments.

The basic bosch cordless drill is $6 more, has 6x the torque, a removable battery (compatible with other bosch products) and can drill too.

    • Yeah I tend to agree… unless you genuinely find a cordless drill too heavy, I'm struggling to think of when I'd actually use this over my normal drill (of which I have 2 already).

For the odd time I need to fix something in a tight space, I'm sure I can manage a manual ratchet…
