Buy 5 for Family and 4 for Duo.

Before you start the Spotify instructions, download and activate your VPN
(Please buy credit for Spotify without VPN)
As the German's have pointed out use HideMe for Spotify. You could try another one, but it may not work. Read the FAQ for more.
For me personally, as I've got 12 months free from the Keepsolid deal it works fine.

FAQ

Q: Do I have restrictions on a Australian Spotify account?
A: No! After you have completed the instructions, your account will be Australian again. Everything is available, including audiobooks such as The three???.

Q: When can I follow the instructions?
A: Your Spotify account must have the status Free. It doesn't matter if you use a new account or your old one. You can rerun the manual every 12 months for family or every 14 months for Duo.

Q: Do I have to take 3x 100 BR or is it also possible for 3x 6 months? ( Brazil)
A: It doesn't matter if you take 3x 100 BR or 3x 6 months. It is also possible to gain 6x 50 BR or 6x 3 months. Pay attention to the 24-hour limit. (Brazil)

Q: How many months is the maximum on Spotify?
A: A maximum of 18 months are possible, which is equivalent to 12 months Spotify Family or 14 months duo.

Q: What happens if I charge less?
A: If you charge less, you cannot return to Australia. A conversion to family or duo is then not possible.

Q: How much can I redeem per day?
A: Per day (24 hours) you can max. Redeem 4 codes.

Q: How many people can I add to a Spotify Family account?
A: You + 5 more people are possible in a family account.

Q: Can I also switch to Spotify Duo?
A: Yes, that's possible, follow the instructions and choose Duo instead of Family

Q: What address do the family and I have to provide?
A: You and your family must provide the same address. It doesn't matter if it's your real address or another one from Australia.

Q: Does this also work with an existing family or Duo subscription?
A: No! You have to wait until your family or Duo subscription has expired.

Q: Why not Turkey, Argentina or Philippines?
A: In principle, you can take any country that offers voucher codes. According to my current knowledge, there are currently no Turkish, Argentine or Philippine codes. Payment by credit card is possible via detours, so a change to Australia is not permitted. You are also severely restricted.

Q: What happens after my family or Duo subscription has expired?
A: Once your family or Duo subscription has expired, you will be switched to Spotify Free. All your family members will be from the family or Duo and then also have Spotify Free.

Q: What is the term I have when you switch to the Duo subscription?
A: If you switch to the Duo subscription, you have a term of 14 months.

Q: Do I still keep my playlists if Spotify is cancelled, family members are removed or added again?
A: Yes, your playlists and those of your family members will be preserved.

Q: When I select PayPal (step 19), I get the following error message: "Eita, algo deu errado. Tente novamente or entre em contato com a nossa equipe de suporte." What can I do?
A: Wait 24 hours (better 25 hours) and then try again. In 99% of all cases, this is the solution to the problem!

Q: I cannot switch to Brazil for country and region, I only see Australia. What can I do?
A: Your VPN is not suitable for Spotify. Take another provider. Recommendation: Keepsolid

Q: Can I stay single too?
A: Yes! However, a change to Australia is then not possible. You have to switch to Family or Duo subscription if you want to return to Australia.

Q. Did I test this?
Yes, it worked on my old account too!

Q. Why is it so expensive?
This is yearly pricing, due to Spotify's strict card policy (where you must be in the same country as the card), GCs are the easiest workaround for this. It works out to be cheaper going yearly than monthly, also you'd be spending more on smaller GC than this B$100 GC.

Q.If you have an android just use an APK for Spotify premium.
A. Great, but some of us use iOS.

Q. Just use YouTube Premium.
A. Some of us use Spotify.

Table for comparison of prices cheers to Daanish

Plan AUD cost monthly (annual) BRL cost monthly (annual) Cost of enough BRL100 gift cards for 1 year Annual AUD saving of this method

            • @abs898: Wise virtual card didn’t work for me.

              • @Chippy47: Use your Australian card through PayPal.

              • @Chippy47: I will check my card in a bit, but you can also buy a spotify gift card from amazon.in for any cash value

                • @abs898: Amazon.in doesn’t have any Spotify gift cards as far as I can see. Also it won’t accept Au credit card.

If you could please enlighten us how did you pay for it?

                  TIA

    • Hi, did you have to use a credit card or gift cards? Thanks!

    • Alrighty guys, my bad. I looked into what credit card I have been using. Seems like a friend of mine helped me setup the billing and it's linked to an Indian Debit card. It's been on for 2 years. Possibly this will be unobtainable for most people.

  • +3

i use a dodgy Philippines PayPal account linked to my Philippines Spotify.
hasn't failed me yet and its been like 4 years

    • I have a Philippino Paypal as well but Spotify won't let me re-new with it, even with a VPN.

What is your process to use your Filo Paypal?

      • i started a new spotify account at the same time as the Paypal years back

        • I had this and then forgot to update my credit card when it renewed and then the Paypal option disappeared after the payment failed. Just something to watch out for!

  • +2

Hmmm i just bought a brazilian code to apply. It says it's not available for use in my country. Did I just waste $32.87?

    • Sames

      • +2

@HamBoi69 by any chance did you test all of this out before making this post?

        • Yeah I tested it out. It all worked for me. New account, set the country and it worked.

    • Did you change your account’s country to Brazil yet? Your account’s country should be the same as that of the gift card.

      • I just tried and it's greyed out. I use Facebook to login, and read somewhere i need to change settings to brazil too. I tried changing but still greyed out

        • You’ll need a VPN to change the country, since Spotify knows your IP

        • Make a new account. Then try in incognito etc.

Lucky we got Freshfm in Adelaide!

I use spotify prem family with 5 of my mates. Gotta pay 3$ every month, but It's beter than 10 or 6 bucks a month for the same thing. I'd try this out, but it seems too much work for dollars of savings.

  • +8

I used Russian Spotify using my russian mobile phone account. All legit and so on. About 150 rubles meaning 4aud. Then one day I've been kicked out due to sanctions and spotify leaving Russia. No savings of playlists or whatsover options. Alright… Custom .apk spotify client from 4pda.ru and I listen it for free for 8 months already. Was willing to pay before!

    • Does custom apk give you download/ offline play or just ad free and skips?

      • +1

Not . I don't think you can download. And this is not a problem to me. Just ads free and skips.. if you are lazy to register on 4pda, you can try to find it on telegram channel cats mods…

  • +3

Seems alot considering tidal is about $3/mo for a family account.

    • +1

Yes, I've never understood why people pay for Spotify when there are cheaper options elsewhere? I mean, even YouTube feels like a better subscription…YouTube premium + YT music for the one price

    • Spotify seems to have more music available… and the client is alot better..

Well it's been quite a while since i tried other services..

      • +1

Yeah that's what I find, as long as you don't stray too farm from mainstream.

Couldn't find Blue by Eiffel 65 on tidal… Almost unsubscribed.

    • How do you get this?

      • +1

        Fly your chopper to Argentina

  • +2

Yeah I don't get it - plenty of cheaper offshore options available which don't require you to think about buying gift cards every year

    • +2

have you tried anything recently? getting errors like "Your payment method and country don't match" etc

    • Yeah, not anymore. They're onto it.

Getting harder and harder to do this now.

  • -4

Between YouTube premium and Apple One/Music haven’t even considered Spotify…
    Do people still use it?

  • Can someone please find something similar for Uefa Champions League ? Sick of paying multiple stream services with limited contents.

    • +1

Use a VPN to Ireland and watch on LiveScore app. No subscription required.

      • Oh cool - does it work for EPL too?

        • +1

          No just CL

  • Spotify++ sideloaded, premium for free.

  • +8

This is the most confusing table I have ever seen in my life 😭

    • +1

Agree. And the pricing into the title doesn't state monthly or yearly. So confusing

  • +1

Anyone manage to get Turkish Discord Nitro working? It looks to be around a 70% saving

  • +1

good research op i still will only use YouTube premium because it include YouTube music its a shame i don't think YouTube music works for alexa

    • But works with Sonos and google home

    • Who's better smart home Google or Amazon?

  • +1

Good effort OP but the post is so confusing lol

    • Try again, let me know!

  • +2

Thanks for the post, but it's very hard to understand. I've read it a few times and even them my brain died. But thanks for letting us know the options!

    • So did mine, that's why I've updated it. Let me know if looks better!

      • +1

Hey - it looks much better and clearer now with instructions - thanks!!!

  • +4

This post is as clear as mud.

    • Have another look and let me know!

  • +3

Hmm those conversions make no sense to me. 1 AUD = 3.28 BRL

How come 19.90 is 15.60 aud? It should be more like 6 aud?

  • +4

Well after ignoring the jargon in step 1. I get this for the annual cost from this table haha.
    Single Spotify $98.61
    Duo Spotify $98.61
    Family Spotify $131.87

  • I'm lucky to still have a working version of YTvanced for all my music needs

  • +13

I have rewritten the table in the OP with some corrections to try and make things clearer for people who aren't making sense of the post.

OP had a couple of calculation errors too. You need 5 of the 100BRL cards to pay for a year of Family at BRL 34.90 per month (BRL 418.80) There are probably some rounding errors and currency conversion rates discrepancies compared to OP.

Plan AUD cost monthly (annual) BRL cost monthly (annual) Cost of enough BRL100 gift cards for 1 year Annual AUD saving of gift card method
    Single $11.99 ($143.88) BRL 19.90 (238.80) 3 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $60.30 (~AUD $94.54) $49.34 (~34% saving)
    Duo $15.99 ($191.88) BRL 24.90 (298.80) 3 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $60.30 (~AUD $94.54) $97.34 (~51% saving)
    Family $18.99 ($227.88) BRL 34.90 (418.80) 5 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $100.50 (~AUD $157.57) $70.31 (~31% saving)
    • This makes much more sense! Thank you

    • +2

It's better then the Ops, but still unnecessarily complicated.

Spotify Brazil family plan via gift cards is ~$157.50 for 14+mths

      • Spotify Brazil family is R34.90/mth
      • R100 Spotify GC is ~$au31.50
      • R500 (~$157.50) gets you over 14mth Spotify
    • Cheers @daanish I've used this in the OP!

  • +2

It's a shame Spotify has shelved the hi-fi (lossless) quality option, with no foreseeable likely hood of doing it. CD quality wouldn't be too much to ask. No doubt 320kbps is alright for portable listening.

  • Spotify Brazil single costs 19.90 BRL per month. That is 6.07 AUD atm. I don't know how you got to 15.66 AUD.

    • +2

Yeah, I also went thru this and I believe that's where the OP made a mistake - in Step 1 it said that 100BRL is 78.72AUD but in fact it is $30AUD.

    • +1

Yeah I've updated this all now!

  • +6

When it gets this complicated and expensive, it's time to go back to CDs and your old MP3 collection

  • @HamBoi69 - could I clarify two points on your post/table?

    In Step 1:

    Step 1
Log on to G2A and buy(g2a.com) some Spotify Brazil Gift Cards. FYI R$100 (~A$78.72). If you're looking to buy family premium for a year then you'll need 4 of these - R$400 (~A$314.87). Pay and checkout

But looking up the BRL to AUD exchange rate, 100BRL is $30AUD , where does $78.72 come from?

In the table, the single monthly aud price is listed as

Brazilian Monthly Price (In AUD) $15.66

I think the single monthly price in Brazil is 20BRL, which is $6AUD

I believe you might have used an incorrect BRLAUD fx rate in the tables? The deal is still a deal because the Brazilian Spotify is half the Aus subscription when converted, but the numbers are causing some confusion.

EDIT: looks like some other posters have picked up the above.

    • I used google's exchange calculator. Bare with me as I'm about to update the OP and title.

      • +1

Let’s all get naked? I guess when we use a VPN, we really get into it

  • I'm on my second trial month of Tidal premium. I love it.

  • +1

Better off au family premium if group up for $38 a year. Way less hassle imo

  • +1

What advantages does Spotify have over YTM or Tidal? Only podcasts afaik, but could be wrong.

I jumped ship years ago when Spotify started cracking down on modded apks. Plenty of playlist converters out there.

  • +1

What is the benefit of paying this over YouTube music

    • Personal preference I guess!

  • I've updated the description let me know if that makes more sense!

  • +2

YouTube premium (with YouTube music) works out to be around $100 cheaper.

    • +6

Some people prefer Spotify Premium over YouTube Music.

      • This is OzBargain we are here to save money. YouTube music is $100 cheaper so why wouldn’t we use that?

          • +1

@HamBoi69: There are more pros in the YouTube Music section?

            • +1

              @WoodYouLikeSomeCash:

              Spotify Premium

              • Better audio quality
              • Better subscription perks and flexibility
              • Greater content diversity
              • Better music discovery algorithm
              • Intuitive controls and sleeker aesthetics
              • +1

@HamBoi69: I wouldn’t say it’s worth $100 more. Considering YouTube premium includes ad free YouTube and YouTube Music.

              • +1

                @HamBoi69:

                Better subscription perks and flexibility

Like what? YTM you get ad free YT as well. Other then higher audio sampling rates, there doesn't seem to be any other perks.

                Greater content diversity

Err nup. Except a few podcasts. But you get all that extra YT content.

                Better music discovery algorithm

Err not in my experience. So debatable.

                Intuitive controls and sleeker aesthetics

Personal preference there. Some prefer Apple, Some Prefer WinAmp, etc

But you do get better quality audio. Personally I can tell the difference between 128->256bps but I can't notice 256->320bps myself. But absolutely a deal killer for an audiophile, although they probably use tidal.

                • @M00Cow: My biggest disagreement would be the greater content diversity. The remaining upsides are mehhh for me
The price difference for better audio quality too high imo

                • @M00Cow: From what I understand YTM does not give you ad-free YT. You need YT Premium for that.

                  • @scupper: It certainly does.. I've had it for ~8yrs. They're one in the same

                    https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/answer/6305537

Your YouTube Premium benefits will apply across:

                    YouTube
                    YouTube Kids
                    YouTube Music

                    • @M00Cow: It's not a grandfathered option? e.g. you joined when it was Youtube Red? I know someone who has a YTM family subscription and says she gets ads on plain Youtube.

edit: your link is Youtube Premium.
