Hoka Clifton 8 $115 + $5 Delivery ($0 with $150 Order) @ Running Warehouse

760

Only available in Width size D. Which is the standard width. This will be my second pair. I use them for training and long runs and have done 500kms in the old ones.

It’s like running on a cloud. Much prefer them to ASICS or Nikes but then it’s all personal preference.

$5 standard delivery (free with $150 order) or $10 express delivery.

Seems like a good deal,

it is a good deal but do they still have the annoying rise at the medial arch?

    • yes they do, arch is quite thin as well for a wide shoe

    • I was looking to buy this shoe, is that medial arch rise something that affects the shoe comfort?

      • It did for me on Clifton 6

        • I thought the Clifton had a neutral sole, isn't a medial arch rise basically going against that?

          • @monkeyoutlet: Kinda maybe, it's not a real stability element though in my opinion (at least in the 6) compared to a medial post or higher density medial foam

  • +1

Thanks. Grabbed a pair. My Bondi need replacing soon so these will do nicely.

Don’t think they have the rise. I know a guy in work got insoles for them and then had arch pain so went back but I would go look at reviews before buying. Everyone’s different.

    • Does the rise in the shoe cause arch pain with orthotic use? Was looking to buy this, but might not given this

To save you from clicking, only giant size left, > 11

    • +1

You say giant I say barely average Aussie male size these days haha

    • +2

there are more reasonable sizes in the blue colour variant

    • +1

You saved me a click, but then I had to write this comment to thank you, which defeated the whole purpose.

      • +1

        I really dontneedthis bro

    • Yesss! Finally something in my size!

Anyone know how these fit compared to ASICS Kayano?

      • I’m an 11 in kayanos and an 11 in Hoka Bondis.. never tried the Cliftons so not sure if they are the same

  • OP or anyone how do you measure the distance you’ve covered in the shoes, for example how do you know you’ve roughly done 500kms?

    • +1

Apps and watch that track it all. Easy if you have the one pair of runners

    • +26

have a spool of thread tied to a pole at your departure point and run holding the thread. when you're finished your run, measure the length of the thread. do this every time you run, and then add up the thread lengths until you hit 500km.

alternatively, i just use my garmin to track my runs - you can add your shoes and it'll keep track of the distance for you. i'm pretty sure most of the apps can do this now (strava etc). much easier than my other suggestion above!

    • A lot people use strava. You set a default pair of shoes, or each run you can select the shoes you ran in (if you have multiple).

      • exactly

The artificial sweetener immitation sugar powder? I personaly prefer real sugar in my coffee, but I don't see what that has to do with running.

        • Cool story bro

        • +1

When you get Strava confused with stevia. Intentionally.

Here's my Strava "gear" tracker: https://ibb.co/m4bzF7d

      (don't judge, I know I have a problem)

    • RunGap on iOS is good for tracking if you don't want to share all your running data with Strava

  • got a pair of Bondi 7, and the inside heel fabric has "rubbed away" now which exposes the plastic at the heel

has given me blisters, so it was replaced under warranty - but it happened to the 2nd pair as well..

Does anyone know if the Clifton's are susceptible to the same thing?

    • Had a pair of Clifton 7 and the same thing happened after less than 50km in them. Ended up throwing them out after 1 month as they would tear the skin off my heels.

    • Yes they are mine have done so. I was also in runulla, a running store in Cronulla, and there was a lady in who walked in her hokas and she had the same issue and the sales guy said as this was the second time she had come in with the same issue with Hokas he was not going to give her more hokas. So he put her in a pair of ASICS instead.

I will say it never caused me blisters. It’s worn away but I have never felt it when I run. I just know it’s there as I see it when I take them off.

      • +1

Most shoes wear there when you run. ASICS are amongst the worst too. Hoka aren’t so good either

  • ohhhh man I'm so tempted but I already have enough pairs!! Do Hokas Clifton go on sale often?

    • I don’t think so. I have been waiting a while for them to go under 150. They do it, but every 3-4 months maybe….

  • Purchased.
    Extremely happy.
    Thanks OP

  • Does the sunsuper15 coupon still work? It’s not for me now but it did earlier

    • I tried it months ago and it didn't work

      • I used it earlier today on a pair of carbon x 3 that I bought. I also tried it on the Clifton 8 and it was working but I didn’t checkout

Re hiking boots that are around $300 what is a good pair/brand?thanks

    • +3

      Go to a hiking store

    • Scarpa

    • +1

Salomon X 3 Ultra, or new model 4 but I like the 3 better as it has more padding. Check YouTube for other differences.

Deckers, the company that owns Hoka, are the same people who sued Aussie companies over the trademark for UGG in the USA. Screwed Aussie businesses in the process.

Be sure to check out the reviews (both professional and user) before purchasing. I find running shoe guru to be incredibly helpful. https://www.runningshoesguru.com/2021/05/hoka-one-one-clifto…

    • Yeah, I also wanna caution people here who are not professional athletes because this shoe will change your form of running into forefoot which is faster and you'll be leaning forward more making you want to go faster.

  • +2

They are good, but too soft for me. My running times suffer.

    • These are for easy or long runs, not fast runs You need different lighter weight shoes to go faster.

      • It's not the weight. It just feels like I'm running on sand. Very mushy, like all the energy gets absorbed. Though mine were the 7's. Apparently the 8 has more energy return.

        • +1

These are highly cushioned with more energy absorption and less responsive. More suited for easy or long runs. Lighter and more responsive shoes in the range (such as carbon X) are better suited for pace and race day.

  • Does anyone know how these compare to the Clifton 1s?
I heard the feel of the later models was departure from the originals but haven't heard anything specific about the 8s.

  • Boo size 11.5 and bigger.

Guys I found another Clifton shoe with the discount that has smaller sizes. Unfortunately it still doesn't have my US 10 size….

There is also Rincon 3 (very light weight) very limited small sizes.

  • Durability is an issue with HOKA. i've had Clifton 7s and 8s. both fell to pieces after around 400-500km. Much prefer Nike Pegasus. I still have a pair of Pegasus 37s that I've clocked up over 1600kms, and only slight wear on the heel of sole.

    • Yeah, durability is a bit of a concern.
I've put similar mileage on my Clifton Edge's and there's noticeably more wear than on my last pair (Ultraboost's) at the same distance (300-400kms). Though they haven't 'fallen to pieces', I'm not expecting them to last as long. The Edge model doesn't have a normal rubber sole, which is likely the reason for the quicker wear rate, not sure if other models are the same.

  • The hoka carbon x 3 for $140 using coupon sunsuper15 is a good deal

  • These or Nike Pegasus?
