Radeon RX 7000 Series Won't Use 16-pin 12VHPWR, AMD Confirms
    https://www.techpowerup.com/300252/radeon-rx-7000-series-won…

    • AMD should have waited to see what the problem was… There's no issue with the connector, the issue according to igors lab is the supplier of the adapter and some bad implementation of the design… If igors right and it's looking that way, nvidia will be recalling the adapters they shipped to board partners… Other cables like ones from power supply companies are fine… And design of the connector is also ok if cables are made properly.

      • if you're still plugging in 3 or 4 pcie cables, theres no real difference. At least you wont need to spend extra to get a nice look if your PSU comes with 3 PCIe cables.

      • If you're implying that AMD changed their mind about 12VHPWR because of recent woes, I don't think so.

The RX 7000 is so close to launch that I reckon the decision not to use that connector was made well in advance, just like Intel chose not to use the 300W 12VHPWR variant on their ARC GPUs when they were the ones who developed the connector with NVIDIA.

12VHPWR has been implemented on the RTX 3090Ti FE which also has a 450W TGP, AMD already had 7 months to debate the pros and cons of it

        • Your right but the timing of the 'no we aren't using it' just made it feel like it's because of the controversy… But yeh I definitely thought they can't have just decided that too.

Controversial or not I think it was a necessary connector, maybe didn't need to be as small but when you have cards above 450w, 4x 8pins will look pretty stupid not even considering the space needed on a pcb (nvidias being tiny on massive cards).. It's a shame it wasn't done properly.

So either AMD have no 600w cards and are all below 450w, or they are ok with 4x8pins.. It'll be interesting to see.

      • Not really. 12Hwhatever is nvidias gimmick because they use very short PCB they cannot install 4 8pin connectors on that board of that length. Would look ugly too. AMD really does not have to care about it because thier reference cards are way more efficient as per leaks and 3 8 pin connectors on thier longer PCB is plenty enough. Plus every person and thier dogs PSU has 8pin connectors so why bother with 12 pin if you can avoid bundling one altogether.

What a steal! Its a shame I dont need it though.

Any thoughts on this one btw?

It's a bad one from what I've read.

      • Really? I tried searching but i could barely find anything. But usually they said good things

        • The mwe models have transient issues. Tier b on the psu tier list.

          • @CURRYINAHURRY: Ah, so these are affected because of the focus platform which trip at lower transients? I use a focus+ gold that is supposedly affected by them, but all good for me because my PC only sux 350 watts of the 750.

            • @John Doh: In regards to the focus platforms, they are actually very good. Pre 2018 models did have transient issues that made them shut off but the newer ones have no issues. Top tier psu.

  • Just ordered a corsair 850w from Amazon a few days ago, feels bad man.

    • +2

Corsair is a good PSU, dont feel bad.

    • i guess the person really loves psu's

      • +1

I got one from the 1st deal and it is good

        • +1

I would have gotten this if i really needed it. But 850w is overkill for me, will check out some BF deals

  • Bought it earlier this month, same price. Ordered Saturday, arrived Wednesday. No complaints thus far.

  • Would buy if they had a white version available. Any white deals around?

    • Racist!

      • 850 whats?

        • Yes sir

    • Whats wrong with the big black … PSUs?

  • Will 850watt psu be enough for RTX4080 and/or 7800xt / 7900xt?

  • Is Deepcool a good brand of PSUs? Will this PSU explode in my face at any point? If it fails, will it damage any of my components?
