      • Any chance you can tell us which VPN you are able to use with HotStar please? Thanks!

        • ExpressVPN and Surfshark

    • you can sideloand any apk on android tv and run it using sideload launcher.

    • And you can install vpn's too for watching.

      • I have Nord vpn loaded and use it for certain overseas viewing.

Came here to comment on the hack on mydeals. Not gonna bother til they secure their stuff, surely there are other sellers

Not sure if this site is related to woolworths probably not but sounds the same

  • Any benifits from Vodafone TV to this besides 4k

  • I find this a great drvice for people that just want "normal" apps such as disney, binge, youtube, and all the free to air channels all in one place with a simple easy to use remote. I have one on all my tvs and can start watching something in the lounge and continue in my bedroom if i want. Very easy for kids to use too.

  • I saw plenty of them being flogged for $50 on Facebook Marketplace.

    • Yeah I saw that too! Strangely all of the sellers don't have profile pictures and are from the same area and are all selling them for $50. All of them are brand new and sealed. Not sure if its dodgy or not.

      • +3

They are from the JB Hifi Pixel 7 promotion

I've tried to pick one up from these similarly sounding Arabic names and they told me to come pick up from Dandenong, cash only.

That's a surefire way of making my way onto the Missing Persons list.

This works really well but Do Not Lose/Break the remote. You cannot…repeat cannot set up the google tv without the remote. it is different to a regular chromecast in that you do not connect to it directly via wifi for setup… first it must connect via bluetooth to the remote.

Our remote broke, which was no problem as it has connected via HDMI arc and we just used the regular TV remote. but then I factory reset it and I can no longer use it.

Better get if off marketplace, there are plenty around 40-50$ lol

Will have to reduce mine to match :(

Went to cast Binge to my Chromecast last night, got a message 'Binge no longer supports Chromecast v1', Amazon and Netflix work fine.

    • But you can install the app on chromecast… Was thinking of watching 'The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe' tonight

    • I was watching Binge last night on this device…

I like our Chromecast but I do wish it had internal storage of greater than 4GB - since much less than that is actually usable.

I'm pretty sure I found the culprit though. We stream our parents' Foxtel through Kodi and it seems to cache ALL the thumbnails of the shows. Regular going in and clearing of the cache seems to fix it but I have to do it more and more often. What's weird is if I move Kodi to external storage, the cache still fills up the internal 4GB.

    • i Have to clear the cache on kodi often; as it usually crashes

      • Yeah that's generally the trigger for me to go in and clear the cache. Kodi just won't load and crashes back to home.
Then I see that there's hardly any space left on the internal storage.

        Even 8GB would be better!

Would this be useful for travel?
I have about 60 hotel nights per year and the hotels often dont have casting on their TVs. Wont need to cast using this but Id like to watch netflix, prime etc

    • +1

Yes, i do it on every trip without remote.

    • +1

Get yourself one of this and set it up once and all you need is to connect your travel router to the hotel and all your devices will be connected.

      • can this be a wifi extender?

        • If you're referring to the travel router, then yes you can rebroadcast it with a new ssid.

Works great if you're on a cruise trip and they only allow one mac address on their wifi network, this will allow you to connect with multiple devices.

      • +1

Or if u have a samsung phone, you can share your hotel wifi as mobile hotspot (not mobile data)
Just make sure ur mobile hotspot has same username and password as ur home router. That way your chromecast will connect and works just as normal

Been using this trick since galaxy S7. It doesn't use any mobile data, just hotel wifi and other people in hotel cannot bomb into your chromecast

    • yes I take mine and it works great

How do I find out what model I have, if it is the same as this one or the older model?

I bought it from the previous Google Chromecast with Netflix bundle in one of the deals posted here.

    • If you are able to watch 4k p0rn that is old, else its new

      • are able to watch 4k p0rn that is old,

        Is this one 8k pr0n?

  • Has the price gone up to $79.99? That's what it's showing me on the app

    • Use the code

    • oops I'm an idiot. Didn't see the code lol

    • $10 off only works first time buying on the app though.

  • +1

Good deal… bought it for $90 at JB a couple of months ago!

  • How is this different from normal chromecast? Sorry not good with these things.

    • Google it

    • +1

It has a UI so you don't need to cast to it just use the remote.

  • Does anyone know where to get Fire TV Stick 4K for a good deal?

    • +1

If you mean 4K Max? From Amazon and lots of others: $79. From Target, $77.

  • +1

I have both this and Shield Pro, I don't mind the Google TV but the laggy responsiveness of the remote control is very annoying.

  • +1

I love playing Crazy Taxi with the Sega DreamCast emulator. Also all the NES/SNES roms work flawlessly

  • -1

Don't really need 4k, so I will wait for hd version to go on sale for <$30

    • +8

      Thanks for letting us know.

  • Wonder how long it’ll take to ship (bought one)

  • Thanks OP, now I can replace my outdated FHD Vodafone TV Android box.

  • any difference between the OG chromecast with TV and the 4k one?
    or just the box?

    talking cpu speed/space wise?

    • much faster to load.

remote control (also controls TV power and volume) is useful.

      • nah not the og chromecast…

there was a chromecast with tv like this before they released the HD version

now on the box it says 4k … vs the original box…
wonder if the internal specs are the same or if they have upgrades?

        • My bad.

From what I know the 'new' Chromecast with Google TV 4K is the same as the older Chromecast with Google TV.

They've just slotted in a cheaper Chromecast with Google TV (HD).

  • What's the benefit of this (if any) over the Chromecast which has no remote?

I am happy to use my phone so is there any other benefit?

    • +3

This has built in android tv. so basically you dont need to cast from a phone, you can turn it on like any other android tv stick, and the apps etc are self contained. which is handy for some i suppose.

  • +1

No one mentioned yet the newer, non-4K version Google Chromecast with Google TV has hardware AV1 decoder, there is big doubt that this older albeit 4K version could decode AV1 in software where the Shield TV probably can?

  • This or Xiaomi Mi TV Stick 4K?

  • Code doesn't seem to work anymore

    • Worked for me today

      • I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I just tried it again with no luck

  • I personally prefer Amazon Fire TV 4K Max.

It is snappy and works well for my streaming needs. Finding the video via Alexa is easy.

Sideloadimg Xbox and Geforce Now for cloud gaming. The $5 for two month Turkey recharge cards work well.

Side loading Retro Arc for good old games.

Sideloading Binge and other overseas TV apps.

  • $60 delivered from ebay using StudentBeans - only 3 in stock

  • Price dropped to $75 ($65 with the code SHOPAPP), showing 14 units left in stock.

  • I bought this Chromecast yesterday before it went out of stock at the lower price $75. I did pay the freight protection of $2.99. Unsure if that was a waste of money though. I did use the $10 SHOPAPP code. I paid $67.99 delivered.

Now this morning Cashrewards has 20% cashback at MyDeal capped at $10 and on top of that there is $10 off $75 spend with the code FRENZY. Unfortunately the chromecast is out of stock. But if it was in stock then it was a cracker of a deal. $55 delivered I believe. Great price if it was in stock.

    • Have you received yours? I bought mine on the 4th and still no shipping updates :(

      • No I haven't received mine either. I only ordered 2 days ago but given you ordered so much earlier than me. I expect you will receive yours first. However it seems like they have oversold and possibly waiting on more stock to arrive. They should at least let everyone know what is going on though. Terrible customer service.
