Last time I tried a few years ago my main recommendation page was full of Christian songs. Haven't got any desire to try again

    • +57

      Hallelujah!

    • +7

      Would you prefer christmas songs??

    • What about Youtube?

    • +6

my main recommendation page was full of Christian songs.

I was only getting Muslim songs. 😢

      • +5

I only get Hindu songs on my YouTube music premium with India vpn

        • +2

Takes about a month to train it out of recommending any local music in my experience.

          • @ESEMCE: Just ignore the top hits section, and if you want top hits click through and change the country to whatever you want.

        • +1

          Hindu (religion) or Hindi (language)?

      • +1

Same here using an Australian VPN, gave up on Amazon music after that although I'm still into Bombay spice

    • +4

      Its a sign…

    • +2

Ha, Apple Music, no matter what I do, keeps recommending hiphop on the one hand and k-pop on the other (might have something to do with the family subscription).

      • +2

That was my issue with Deezer, but makes you realise its base is American college kids.

    • +3

Thanks, you've convinced me to give it a try.

I love Christian songs and I'm neither Christian nor religious.

  • +3

Is it only 100 million in shuffle or on demand? Could be the nail innthe coffin for apple one sub for me given recent price hikes

    • +4

      Shuffle mode.

      • Yeah, you can’t just decide to listen to a particular song.

        • Huh? I am sure i can search for and play any song. Am I missing something?

    • +5

Shuffle. But still ad free so better than Spotify/YouTube free if you have prime subscription

      • -8

In the same way that a mud sandwich is preferable to an excrement sandwich. Music is part of my downtime, not time for others to schedule me and try to sell me rubbish. This is absolutely worthless to me.

        • +15

Ok. Now go and have your excrement sandwich.

          • +9

@TheGhost: Hey I'm not the one who lets a corporation pick my music for me.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can stand this.

            Customer: Play xxx by yyy.
Amazon: No! Here's aaa by bbb instead. If you want me to play something you've actually chosen, you can pay me every month!

And the comparison to an excrement sandwich is downvoted. Ok champs. Enjoy your sandwiches.

            • +3

@syousef: That’s because your analogy is flawed. IMO a good analogy would be that if you frequent a cafe and mostly have a good real food sandwich and real good coffee.

Then one day the owner says from today they will give you a piece of real cake for the same amount of money but they will choose the flavour randomly every time.

You can either enjoy the real cake and try different flavours or you can nicely decline the offer and stick to your regular order.

You are not paying anything extra for the music streaming. Its an added bonus.

              • +1

@TheGhost: Only here you don't get to stick to your regular order, which was 2 million songs you could actually request.

I don't know about you, but if a restaurant changed their deal from selling me what I ordered to randomly giving me something off the same page of the menu I wouldn't be going back.

                • +2

@syousef: By regular order I didn’t mean 2 million songs but Amazon prime membership and Prime video which are pretty good value on their own. So 100 million songs are added bonus.

But I guess it depends on your perspective and expectations. For me getting all those things for $5 a month is great value. No other subscription comes close to it.

But it seems you expect a lot more for $5 a month.

                  • +2

@TheGhost: Nothing wrong with expecting what you were getting.

Given the choice I'd stick with 2 million I can choose over 100 million random songs.

                  • +1

@TheGhost: I know what you meant and I disagree with you. I had 2 million songs I could choose from as a prime member. Now I don't. That was a lot less than the 100 million I have now, but I could use the 2 million. The 100 million I don't get to select. I get to select a song and be force fed something "similar" which I didn't actually ask for. That's less than worthless to me. It's infuriating. It's not the relaxing and stress relieving experience I use my music for. Therefore it's absolutely worthless to me. I understand it's not the same for you.

                    • +1

@syousef: valid point - many would prefer 100M random over 2M non-random, but many would not

  • -2

For me it shows as 30days trial only

    • It's Coming. OP beat my Deal Post by 1-2 minutes. It was up to @24 votes.

      • -3

        No one asked?

    • +4

I think that's for Amazon music unlimited where you can watch on-demand music and listen to HD and spatial audio which isn't included in Amazon music prime.

  • +6

Doesn't let you create stations, lacks Hi-Res Audio, can't upload music to library

    • +2

Yeah kinda sucks compared to spotify

      • you cant upload a music library to Spotify either though. YTM comes in clutch with that feature.

    • +1

Well no hi-res is ok, but HD would be nice.

    • +1

Well, it's free if you're already a prime member, I consider this as a bonus addon. If you want those extra features, then you might consider paying for a full featured music streaming service.

  • +1

Thanks - works for me and Alexa now also confirmed it when I tried

  • +2

Great! My 4 month trial of Music Unlimited finishes soon so this is perfect.

  • +7

was about to cancel my Spotify subscription but then realised its shuffle playback only. No thanks

  • +2

Sounda like too many to fit on an iPod shuffle:P.

It may be free but have never bothered with Amazon music. Already got Tidal, and YouTube/YT Music, and no Alexa devices. Don't mind a few shows on prime video.

Can't you listen to full albums or something?
Guess it's setup for a ADHD generation.

  • This is a long running deal, yet you have to shuffle?! I suppose I shouldn’t judge

    • +2

So many people already have a prime subscription, So to be able to shuffle ad free is a nice little perk

      • -2

No. It's not. I didn't have to shuffle before.

      • +5

So to be able to shuffle ad free is a nice little perk

I don't get it. Previously you could play any song you wanted and now you can't. This is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

        • -2

The Amazon Music included with Prime is a limited set (about 2 million songs) compared to the additional paid Amazon Music Unlimited (100 million songs).

The 2 million songs will work the same. Now though you'll be able to listen to the other 98 million as well but only in shuffle mode, not on demand.

          • +1

@bamzero: You can't listen to any on demand. It changed this morning. Including the original 2 million

            • @thedavemiester: Damn looks like you're right, just tried. Guess I grossly misinterpreted "we have improved your Amazon Music Prime benefit". Definitely a downgrade.

Edit: Actually not so sure. Just playing tracks from the My Recent Plays list it creates which would have been part of the 2 million and they are all playing directly and can jump between them.

              • @bamzero: I'd say that's only a matter of time until that changes. I only really interact via alexa and she is definitely playing everything in shuffle mode

                • @thedavemiester: OK, looking at it more it's part of something Amazon is calling All-Access Playlists "Weekly new releases and hits, on-demand and offline"

                  • @bamzero: Yeah, that's mentioned in the post:

plus a selection of on-demand playlists

  • +1

not many asian songs at amazon compare with youtube music, i am right or i just dont know how to search?

  • Hey all. I want to get some clarification, I am an amazon prime member, is that mean I can listen to Amazon music, or do I have to be an Amazon music Prime member first? It's so confusing.

    • Just a prime member to access this. See above for the comparison chart on the various services.

    • +1

If you’re a Prime member, you can access it now via the Amazon Music app or an Amazon Echo device.

Prime membership gives you access to the 100 million songs but only in shuffle mode, i.e. you cannot play an album’s tracks in the original order they are listed: I just tested this briefly with one I’d downloaded last year, and it is playable in shuffle mode only now (unless I guess you want to manually play each song separately in the ‘right’ order) but a key track that was previously unavailable seems to be playable now.

Shuffle is the price of admission to the 100m+ songs, which I think is fine when you’re just wanting Alexa to play background music at home or when you’re out for a walk, driving, etc. If you want to sit and listen to an album as originally recorded, however, you’ll need to stump up for Amazon Music Unlimited. Or get it on CD.

    • +6

There are three tiers of Amazon Music

      • Amazon Music - Free for everyone, but you'll need to listen to ads and there's no offline playback.

      • Amazon Prime Music - Comes with a Prime membership. No ads, you'll get more features and more songs. You can only shuffle play artist, albums and playlists

      • Amazon Music Unlimited - The best tier with all features unlocked. Separate to Prime Membership and it will cost you as much as Spotify Premium at $11.99/mo.

  • +7

I still dont know how amazon makes money on prime. Delivery, video, music all for 7$pm is great value

    • +2

Yes I get delivery a couple of times a week. Even when I have ordered a batch of stuff it can turn up seperately. Then prime video, prime music etc. much better value than ebay plus which I stopped last year.

      • +3

I find Amazon prices to rarely be competitive and even when they are, it's free delivery anyway (over $39 or $49 International) even without Prime.
Prime Video is a nice bonus for a couple of months a year, but (like all streaming services these days) I find the library pretty slim to justify long term subscription.

eBay Plus costs nothing or close to if you buy at the right time.
It's not amazing, but for the discounted price (of somewhere less than $10) it easily pays for itself over the course of a year.

        • Yes I definitely did well out of an eBay plus sale back in the day (pre and early Amazon AU), especially when I was upgrading the head unit in my old Mazda to wireless carplay.
But since Amazon has expanded its warehouse you can often get very good deals that are better than eBay, and crucially next day delivery whereas you might be more than a week on Au stock on eBay. In the end I found I didn’t cover the eBay plus subscription in a 12 month period.

        • Depends on category.

Personally have the opposite view that ebay plus for the year (with the price covered by a gift card covering it) it was pointless as the discounts were not exclusive. I do see they changed that since i cancelled it, so it may of approved.

Cancelling it was a whole journey in its self…

    • +2

      They charge more overseas.

Introductory rate here…. Doubt it'll last much longer personally.

    • +4

      Definitely great value.
They probably want to kill off competitions first before hiking the price.

  • hows this compared to youtube music[paid]?

  • +5

Prime is so much better value than its competitors given the prime delivery, prime video and music, etc is all included for $60/year. Just don't compare it to Spotify on its own as the subscription cost isn't comparable. Prime Music is fine for someone who just wants background music for dinner/party etc. And given you can cast it to any Android TV/Chromecast Audio there's no need to rely on bluetooth, so the sound quality is still good enough for most people

    • +2

And free games if you need them.

  • Any way to pay for prime membership using amazon giftcad?

  • Admittedly Amazon US Prime is more expensive, but at least with their Unlimited Music option, they get the choice of a far superior bit rate eg. 24bit 192khz, whereas we are stuck in AU with absolute compressed crap!… I've been waiting for years for a better range of options here… glad I'm not holding my breath. Needless to say, I do acknowledge however, that my needs are not the majority…

  • I use Amazon music maybe once or twice a week and even with the 2 million songs it's pretty good.

How many songs would one person even know? 5,000?

    • I was wondering this the other day, actually. Songs you actually know? 10 to 15k absolute tops for the average, id say.

    • How many songs would one person even know? 5,000?

It's a numbers game. You wouldn't want to use the service if only a small fraction of the 5,000 songs you know are included in those 2 million songs.

  • +5

I much preferred the option to play on-demand. Now I can’t play specific songs my kids request, it just starts a shuffled list.
The closest is creating a playlist of songs they like but it’s still won’t always play the song they wanted right away.
Also no more option to play the song on repeat.

  • +2

BS.. I keep creating a playlist, and after repetitive listening the songs, it moves them to Premium category.
Almost feels like the free songs are the ones that are unpopular.

  • +4

Does this mean they've removed the 2 million on demand and replaced it with 100 million in shuffle only unless you pay $12 monthly? Because that'd be a downgrade. This is exactly why I hate music services. No, I don't want YOU telling me what I should listen to when I choose to listen to music. And I don't want you to change your mind and ruin my listening with ads. Go away. I have Prime, but this would do nothing but irritate me and ruin what little time I get to listen to music..

    • Yes

      • -4

Are you sure? I’ve been listening to standard prime music this morning and I could select the album I wanted to listen to and it wasn’t shuffled.

The app was prompting me to update though, which I didn’t.

        • My 8 year old was trying to play her favourite song the same way she does every day getting ready for school. Alexa wouldn't play that song, instead shuffling others from similar artists.

I should she was doing something wrong and then tried different artists/songs. Same issue.

          • -1

@thedavemiester: The new “feature” (which is trash) just kicked in and albums are now shuffling.

            • @mapax: I just got added to someone's Spotify family account and have made Spotify the default music player. Things are now working again

        • My app was open since yesterday and I can still select songs.

But on the PC, I can only shuffle.

I don't want to close the app!

      • +2

I've never relied on these services. Last time I used one actively was Google Play Music, which was nicely killed off by "we cancel everything" Google/Alphabet. Leaving access to my music in the hands of a corporation has never been a good option. This move certainly doesn't push me to pay $240/year for the privilege.

        • Last time I used one actively was Google Play Music, which was nicely killed off by "we cancel everything" Google/Alphabet.

Yes, same here. After Google forced me to shift my purchases from Play Music to YT, stranding several albums in an app that I’m not a fan of, I have not signed up to any others. Prime Music for me is just a bonus for casual/background listening on top of the video and shipping services that I use more heavily anyway.

  • Too late, people has already moved to other platforms

  • +1

Not more valuable. Utter garbage. If I want to listen to a song, I don't want shuffle play. Going elsewhere

    • Hello comrade 👋

  • Does it mean if I opt-out of shuffle, I won’t be getting 100M songs?

    • You can't opt out

      • Can’t I just select the artist or albums I want to listen to? If I do so, no 100M songs?
