we need 6600 XT to be <$350

    • +9

      You spelled $250 wrong LOL

Jokes aside I would buy a 6650XT if it goes around $300

    • We do and the 6700 is at $499 <= $400 would be glorious 6700

Let’s hope it plays strong against the 4090

      • +1

With the price range, I am not very optimistic. US MSRP $999 (7900XTX) vs $1599 (4090)…

        • +4

I'm expecting this to be basically 6900xt vs 3090 all over again
          Similar raster performance
RT performance comparable to the best of last gen
Less features than NVIDIA (with the exception of display port 2.1)

          • +2

@cre8t1v3yoozername: It's not looking like matching in raster, let alone anything else.

From an RT perspective it's less of a step forward than the 30 series was, so it's not matching there either.

          • +2

@cre8t1v3yoozername: AMD also uses less power 95w less.. it also only needs 2x 8pin connectors so no risk of burning your house down and can also fit inside almost ever PC case.. unlike the 4090 bricks

            • +1

@vid_ghost: 95W is one whole ass CPU.

it's significant. Not sure why people are just glazing over that detail.

        • For the XT I believe it will beat the 4080 16gb that is at $1199 MSRP while the XT is $300 dollars cheaper. XTX still feels at a weird point, can it compete with the 4090, or is it almost as good as a 4090? This could also be AMD trying to bring the competition down by pricing cards at reasonable prices (hard to believe a corporation wants less profit but who knows) which will entice many people that weren't excited for Nvidias pricing.

          • +2

@LuslecGrace: i think not having to buy a new casing, new PSU and a whole bunch of dodgy adapters is going to be a bigger pull factor than people think.

then again, i bet many will wait for the benchmarks to come out before buying.

            • +1

@slowmo: Exactly that. Whats good is that probably most people already have the recommended PSU, at around 750w that already own a 6900XT, AMD not using 12vhpwr was a really good move. The pricing is also phenomenal, thats only if what they claim about its performance is actually true, imo it looks like they are just as excited as consumers to show it off.

Benchmarks is the breaking point, and can't wait for that.

              • @LuslecGrace: that's probably i'm ahead of most people.. i'm not waiting for benchmarks to hit…

once the shelves have stock, i'm in.

the specs are all acceptable to me, doesn't require major modifications and i am getting real world cost savings i can change my 64gb ram to 128gb.

              • +1

@LuslecGrace: i found this and there are some valid criticisms https://youtu.be/pAUxrWCZV50

          • +1

@LuslecGrace: 7900XTX RT+FSR2 will lose to 4080 RT+DLSS2. but with Raster only games. 7900xtx will easily win.

      • Correct me if I’m wrong but I think they said something about not challenging the 4090, besides, the 7900xt is 2 slot 300w

        • +3

yeah. the jab is "you can take out the old card and replace this new one" without changing anything else.

  • They're aiming for the higher end, just like Nvidia.
Why do i feel like a fool for HODLing.
    :(

    • +2

unlike the diamond hands gme apes , you are not losing money now by hodling.

      thats a win imo.

      • +2

But he's losing the time and enjoyment gained from purchasing and playing games etc

        Everything has an opportunity cost.

That being said, I haven't had a GPU in my PC for nearly a year now… will be picking something up very soon for Warzone 2 though!

        • true. then again, it's not like the game disappears, or DunJen wastes all that time twiddling their thumbs while hodling :)

life goes on. you can pick up a grunty card now and play that old game at a much higher FPS.

    • +3

I guess i'll HODL until Black Fri / Cyber Mon and purchase then.

bit of a run down on whats what..

  • +2

I could open one side of the case and put my Kmart fan directly blowing into it!

    7900 XTX - 384bit 24GB, 355W, US$999 = AU$1899 street
    7900 XT - 320bit 20GB, 300W, US$899 = AU$1699 street

2x standard 8pin power connectors, 2.5 slots, focus on power efficiency

Slower than 4090 but usable in smaller builds, will also not burn your house down

    • +5

i legit laughed out loud when i saw 355W on that stream.

that's like a finger to nvidia.

    • +1

Also half the price. In a few years you could sell for several hundred and could significantly upgrade again with the left over cash

    • +2

7000 series is a good omen, finally focus on power efficiency instead of another 50 watts for 1% more performance. The fact that they are 2.5 slots and under is great for sff too.

      • +1

it also means those external portable gpu cases could still be usable? that's also another market segment there.

  • +8

If it had two fans it would be a dual fan.

    That is correct.

    • +1

      done the math, checks out

  • +1

Hmm what about if it had 3 fans?

    • +1

      a jet

    • +7

Remove 1 fan to make it dual fans.

  • +2

AUD is dropping like it's hot so I guess electronics prices will go up. Sad. I miss 2011 times lol.

  • Seems like the fewer the fans, the higher the price. At $299 this would be better

    • +1

its an itx card, lower demand

  • +3

Link to Kmart fan bargain please

  • +2

Nice find. This is a sub 18cm length card, it has its place amongst the ultra small itx builds in sub 5l sandwich style cases. To get equivalent raster performance and form factor you'd need a single fan rtx 3060 from MSI, Asus, Pny or Colorful and they are generally $550ish.

    • +1 Bought one to through into my NUC 9 Extreme.Gonna install HoloISO and make it into a DIY console.
