I got it as well. Time to think about how to utilise this offer.

  • Gift cards

  • just got it too hectic

  • +4

    nothing. any direct link ?

  • +1

    in sms..

  • I think this is a good offer, cashback is based on the merchant type code so buying gc should be ok.
Is it one time cashback or recurring?

    • Eligible retail shopping includes spend made online and instore from merchants that are classified as retail (excluding supermarket and petrol)..
so COLES and WWS, petrol stations are excluded.

      • Buy Coles + Myer gift card and Myer?

  • +1

I am still unsure how to best use this. Do you go to a shop and ask for their MCC code? That’s a weird conversation starter with the store’s employee

  • I wonder if I can buy a gift card at my local Apple Store…

    • But why? Getting discounted vouchers from Woolworths/Coles (whether in the form of TCN Gift Cards to purchase Apple products from JBHIFI, or Apple Gift cards) give a better return than the 5% cashback.

It might not be worth it trying to use this offer with the intent of buying Apple products.

  • The hunt is on. Which eligible retailer can you buy gift cards which you can't get discounted elsewhere?

  • Was anyone able to opt in? I couldnt see it?

  • Citi is the worse credit card issuer ever. I've had Signature card for over 10 years. Last 7 years I've not redeemed my reward points and it's over 400,000 points. However I tried early this year but find my points is not available, it shows 0.

Then I started contacting them every week or so for last 6 months but they're not getting it fixed. I've involved AFCA last month and hopefully, it can get fixed soon.

    Just unbelievable.

    • +2

      wow…that's crazy.

I think Citigroup "lost" your points, when transferring to NAB.

    • No experience with how they are when things go wrong but I haven't had any problems redeeming points with the fee free Signature card that I got thanks to OzBargain.

  • I got a different offer

      • Your card spend might be higher. I use Amex for my regular purchases, so probably targeted with higher eVoucher amount

        • Oh i logged into my citibank app, and the 5% off was there as well!

  • JB and Good guys gift card ?

    • +1

      • Gift cards it is …….

  • Got the prestige but nothing

  • Uni fee no?
    Council fee no?

  • Nothing here - I'm on the FFFL, believe we all got migrated to the Premier MC card?
Only have the Quick cash offer they keep pestering me about.

    • +1

I got the FFL Premier MC and got the similar offer in Nov 2021 and Aug 2022
But did not receive the offer this time

      • Update: I can see the offer in the app now

  • +2

Where r people seeing it in the app? Can't see anything for me unfortunately unless I'm not looking hard enough

    • +1

Its not via app activation. You click on Opt in Now in the email and you should see this

Not sure why mods changed it to app activation because its not

      • Thank u for the clarification!

      • +5

I got no email but logged in to the app and it was listed on the Home Screen. On the landing screen I see my debit card info balance, under that my credit card info / balance then under that the opt in option.

      • +3

It's now available via app activation.

        • Yea they have added it in the app. Updated post thanks

        • mine showed up in the app. Must have missed it until recently, but means also not up the 10000 limit as i only did it yesterday

  • Bunnings?

  • +1

Got the similar offer back in August but didnt receive it this time

  • +2

Fyi for anyone who never gets these offers (like me), I've found that I've opted out to such emails. When u logon via browser to citibank, there is a section called "consent to contact" under your profile. I suspect ull need this at least turned this on for emails in order to potentially receive such offers.

Worth checking out if you're in the same situation

  • +1

I didn’t get the email or anything but when I logged into the app it was displayed there on the front page where I could tap and opt into it.

  • Just wondering if I got both prestige and premier, does the offer applied to both cards? (Up to $100 cap per card?)

    • Both cards are eligible, but I was told that $100 cap per account applies, to be safe, I suggest you pick any one of the card and use (not mix)

  • +11

Just a note to all, if things have not changed, both ShopBack and CashRewards giftcard portals are eligible to meet the cashback requirements

ShopBack will fall under MCC5311 'Department Stores'

CashRewards will fall under MCC5734 'Computer Software Stores'

See my comment from last deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12499506/redir

    • Did you get the cashback last time?

  • +5

Just reminder, this promo starts on 25 Nov (in 20 days).
    Don't go spending just yet

  • zip pay counts?

    • I'm wondering the same for paypal

    • looks ZIP (5999) is in list, I will give a try.

      • let me know how you go! i have $2K in zip that i need to pay off! (click frenzy sales today)

      • Would be interested to know as well!

    • +3

Paying off Zip worked for me last time :)
I prepaid some council rates to max out zip, then used Citi to pay off the balance.

      • Ermagherd delete your comment now so citi never find out! haha

      • how do you pay council rate with zip? does it work with afterpay?

  • Does Amazon count?
And does it have to be in one transaction

  • Is shopback considered retail for this purpose?

Edit: some posts online say 5311: Department stores, which would be eligible

  • +1

Presumably the $500 minimum is based on aggregated spending across all eligible MCC across all transactions during the promo period? Ie, no min spend on any single transaction?

    • im interpreting as min $500 per transaction

      • Same here.
I will be paying for the NRMA comprehensive insurance. Hope it is eligible for the cash back.

    • +2

The T&C's in the email at the bottom indicates it doesn't have to be in a single transaction.

      "Important Information

*To be eligible to receive 5% cashback (up to $100), you (the primary cardholder) must opt into this offer by 11.59pm AEDT 22 November 2022 and receive confirmation that you have successfully opted into this offer via the linked landing page.

You must then spend $500 or more (in one or more transactions) on eligible retail shopping from 12.00am AEDT on 25 November 2022 to 11.59pm AEDT on 2 December 2022 (Promotion Period)."

  • How about Microsoft Online store? Should applicable. Confusing T&C with set MCC code….

    Hopefully they fall

  • How about NRMA blue membership? They are selling woolworths giftcard as well? Does it count?

  • Does anyone know if BPay payments will also get 5% for this promo?

  • Maxed this out back in August first time around on two credit cards. I still have over a thousand $$$ in unspent gift cards bought from that adventure back then! Oh well, here we go again I suppose. 5% is better than any current bank account, so may as well.

  • +1

Just a coincidence this offer starts on Black Friday? I can't see that spending $2,000 is gonna be very hard to achieve at all. I can see a new 65" OLED LG TV in my very near future bought with HN/JB/GG gift cards

  • So it's multiple time with 100$ cap limit only or until you reach 100$ cashback cap ?

    • +1

If you can rephrase that question in English I might be able to answer it. For those that aren't seeing the offer in the Citibank app I suggest you contact Citibank customer service and ask why. I did that very thing yesterday. Sent through screenshots from my phone, evidence that I got the cashback from the first offer back in September and convinced them that I'm a customer who will use it to the max this time around due to needing to buy household appliances in Black Friday sales. Their back-end team is supposedly investigating why the offer is not appearing for me to opt-in. Will probably come to nothing based on past Citibank experience, but worth a try.

      • Using my translating powers I believe they are asking if the $100 cap is per transaction or per account.

        • Per account. You just have to spend a total of $2,000 to get $100. How you arrive at that aggregate $2,000 is up to you.

      • For those following along, it has taken relentless nagging every single day for a week to finally extract an answer out of Citibank as to why I am not getting the offer showing up in phone app.

"For customer’s to be eligible on the promotion they should either receive a notification for the offer or offer should be available on their mobile app to opt in. Please also note that these offers are targeted hence its not offered to all customers.

Since customer does not see this offer on his mobile app nor received a notification, therefore, customer is not eligible on the offer."

I put it to the CSR this means they're only "targeting" customers who won't actually use it. It's effectively a simple bait and switch offer, rather than a genuine one. After much back and forth of her desperately trying not to admit this, she eventually agreed this is the case in order to get rid of me.

  • What MCC is Aldi?

    • -1

Wouldn't have a clue because ALDI surcharge for CC use, so no-one should ever be using a CC for ALDI spend regardless of 5% cashback offers

      • no-one should ever be using a CC for ALDI

What if Aldi were to offer a 10% discount on say, Amazon gift cards?

        • Is that a hypothetical 10% discount ONLY if bought with a CC?

      • ALDI surcharge for CC use, so no-one should ever be using a CC for ALDI spend regardless of 5% cashback offers

Pretty wild blanket statement. 0.5% fee is almost entirely made up in post tax savings on interest alone (4% pa over 2 months is in the realm of 50bps - taxed at 45% if you're a big earner brings down to like 20bps aldi cost?). Not to mention points earning capacity.

    • FYI I reached out to Aldi, who advised that their MCC is 5411: Grocery Stores.

  • can anyone that used either their linked diners club card or their bundll card linked to a citibank credit card to make purchases confirm if they got the cash back last time?

    • +2

      bundll (7399) NO

    • +1

      Diners Club: yes

      • thanks best use the diners club card then as you earn more points at the supermarket

  • +1

Wow so looking forward to spending this on Deliveroo credit.. oh wait..]

  • What MCC is Costco?

    • When I was using the Hiver card Costco came up under the Wholesale Clubs category which is one of the categories which is supposed to be included.

    • I checked with citibank online chat and was told it's
      MCC: 5300
      Category: Wholesale Clubs
appears to be on the list

  • Where can i buy prepaid visa or master gift cards from the approved MCC list ?

      • I meant prepaid cards which have an activation fee and are not category specific.

        • +2

Too hard. I want universal giftcards that are accepted everywhere with no surcharge, allow me to choose the design and Christmas gift message to be printed on them and I want Citibank to pay for them and I want 100,000 frequent flyer points as well for my trouble. And I want everyone in here to research this all for me and tell me where I can this. Go. First one to reply with the right answer wins a cookie.

  • How do we know if the offer is activated in my card.. i am sure i activated it, however there is no way to confirm this

    • You click on the Opt In button again and it will say you have already opted in to this offer. Now that it's after Nov 22 though, there probably isn't the button (I wouldn't know because I was never offered it), in which case there is no way to confirm. You have to remember whether you did or not.

    • I am in the same boat . Cannot see it anywhere but remember I did actually activate it in APP

    • +2

received email & text from CITI today confirmed opt-in.

  • Has anyone tried cashrewards or ShopBack gift cards yet? $500 in one go is a big whack to test for me

  • Anyone know what MCC Bundll uses and if it would be included in this deal?
