[VIC] Free Kid's (U/15) GA Tickets with a Paying Adult ($89) + $4.95 Fee @ The Melbourne International Airshow via Ticketmaster

350

Seems that the upcoming airshow in Melbourne in March 2023 will have free kids tickets (for those under 15 years old), but must be accompanied by an adult. Adult tickets are $94 ($89+$5 TM handling fee). I guess a teacher with a class of kids would score the best value :-) Appears that up to 9 free kids tickets is the limit per adult / booking.

The Friday evening and weekend shows are spectacular and traffic management getting so many cars in and out quickly was impressive.

Tips for those interested in going to either event and staying the day:
    * bring camping chairs and/or picnic mats
    * several litres of water or similar drinks, hats, umbrella shade and sunscreen (2019 was as hot as it gets and though there are refillable drink stations there is not much shade)

    • Come to Perth for an absolute shitshow of traffic mismanagement .

Is single Friday ticket gonna be enough to get the full experience? Or Friday and Saturday are at least necessary? Thanks.

    • +6

Friday is a experience with a different flying program and activities. The last time I went there was mock dogfights, laser shows and special ops manoeuvres that look very different at night compared to the daylight shows … and a surprise spectacle at the end that marks the hall mark of the air show.

Saturday and Sunday allows for more time, especially for families and kids, to visit the stands and expo halls - simulators, merchandise, vendors, etc as well as meet the air crews and board the various ground aircraft.

I would recommend both if you have not been before as the night show was brilliant. If you had to choose one or the other I would go for a full day on the weekend.

The program will be released closer to the date.

The F111 dump and burn used to look amazing at night

Thanks for this. Going to book Fri/Sat tickets now for my fam instead of just Sat.

Just want to say thanks for this post again. I booked fri/sat last year and friday is going to be amazing and saturday is the only day with the B52 flyby. Super excited for my kids to see it all

free kids tickets (for those under 15 years old)

    What about 15 yo kids?

Why are they being discriminated against just because of their age?

    • +7

What about 26yo kids being discriminated against

      • +2

They can cry into the dinner their mum made them

    • +8

What about 50 yo farts that act like they're 5?

      • -1

He's at least a 150 year old fart. Can't argue with the acting like a 5 year old part

    • It’s a scam basically. They want you to bring your kids so your kids pester you to spend money on food and merchandise.

Kids also get in free to the Zoo, museums, the car races at Sandown…. actually kids get in free to most things. Not sure this is a deal

    • +1

Yeah isn’t this just standard policy for the air show? Is that a deal?

Edit: looking further down, maybe it wasn’t.

  • I have never been before. How much fun is this for a 4 year old? What's there to do or see?

    • +3

It's (really) hot and (really) noisy. I doubt that many 4yo will enjoy it but YMMV.

      • Thanks for that. I'd considered the loud but not the hot.

given that it's being held at Avalon Airfield, it's more like YMAV…

spot the microsoft flight sim player…

        • very good, take my upvote
          slow clap

They're "Free" but like anything, the cost is absorbed somewhere. 2019 price - adult $68, child $32.

For adults not taking/no children, absoulte ripoff.

The new site map layout with the new seating locations will be the shows downfall. All viewing areas pushed back towards the taxiway, reduced areas for static aircraft, trade tents etc.
Pilots can no longer fly in/out of the temporary avalon east airstrip, all this stuff hidden behind the 'children free' publicity.

The free parking is probably the deal here.. until its time to leave 😈

    Sorry $94!?!

    • +1

Just accept that EVERYTHING in life now will be more expensive (double/triple the cost) moving forward

      • Wonder what it used to be?

        • +1

i think $30-$60 for entry to the event + parking + cost of petrol just to get there and back

          • @DiscoJango: Wow! Hopefully the $94 include parking!

Otherwise I'll be watching it from Eastern Beach in Geelong (like I have been the last few shows!)

            • @nickeveli: Is the view from geelong beach good? Obviously I’m used to being right up close to the action in the past

            • @nickeveli: wait is this a special free hack? is the view good?
i can also enjoy a day at the beach

  • I guess a teacher with a class of kids would score the best value :-) Appears that up to 9 free kids tickets is the limit per adult / booking.

I always wondered why the missus got to go to this in like year 9 when my school never did anything cool. Now I know.

    • we still have time. let's dress up as students and go as class. need a teacher to take us

  • $94?

Wtf! Last time I went it was $35, albeit a long time ago).

Smart people will download the program and park nearby as their planes of interest fly over.

  • Will General Admission be allowed into planes and how crowded is this event usually?

  • If anyone bought and can't attend Sunday, see me in the classifieds.
