  • Is it safe to buy from Amazon? Some of the comments suggest tempering.

    • +8

Usually those comments bought it from other resellers and overseas. Sold by AmazonAU should be fine and if not return it.

      • i believe they can share stock as well though.

        • Not useless it's fulfilled by Amazon. Otherwise 3rd part sellers are completely independent.

      • I bought two of the PoGo ETBs which were sold and shipped by Amazon UK and both had the boosted nicked. promo card and other stuff was left.

Yes Amazon did refund me but it wasnt worth the hassle

        • +3

          Thats why i wrote AmazonAU.

        • So you got free cards, and promo cards? Sounds like a good deal.

  • Do pokemom cards retire like lego or something? I was seeing people go crazy over those $300 Charizard cards.

    • +3

They eventually do, but Pokemon can stop printing cards, then a year later reprint again rendering those prices much lower.

      • Sounds a bit like lego. I was just wondering why people were buying the 5 or 10 customer limits on a $250-$300 set or cards lol.

        • +2

Some people love the chase and some buy to invest. Pokemon and LEGO really have the same concept. Some people want to build the set and some want to keep sealed as an investment so they might buy multiple of a set.

Pokemon cards seems not to be a tremendous hold-and-sell market lately. If you're gonna buy 10 $99 sets in hopes of selling it or $300 2 years later, I dunno man, I could have done just 3 days of overtime and made the same.

  • +1

Oh wow such a good price cheers!

  • +2

Similar to the release price, you could get them for $64 each from amazon in a buy more than one get % discount.
Pokemon prints products into oblivion, nice if you want to open it. Very little resale potential.

If you're completely new to the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), the Battle Academy set is the one to get.

It's a low-investment, beginner-friendly set complete with 3 decks for 2 players. It's presented as a board game and it's either sold alongside other board games or with other TCG products.

    • Thank you. My kids are just getting into pokemon so this well be perfect.

    • +2

$35 for 3 decks seems really cheap

    • Second this. Great way for kiddies to start out

    • +2

I've got the previous version of this to play with my kids, and it's great. Much less overwhelming than building a valid deck for them. They still swap out cards for random stuff they find in boosters which don't always work lol, but still fun.

Our biggest challenge in getting into the tcg has been energy cards. They have a decent amount of actual cards but without buying one of these elite boxes or just buying a bulk lot of energy we never have enough of a specific kind. I usually just make it all generic energy to save mucking about and leaving out Pokemon they want to use.

      • +1

try cardboard gamer or game center

u can get cheap energy cards and trainer cards there
and cheap basic cards. i did can order of 300 cards for 50 bucks, to help build sets

        • Thanks. My Grandkids are getting into Pokemon too. I will check these stores out.

      • +5

PM me your details and I'll send you bulk energy

    • Also agree this is a great way to start. We had the older version of it and after collecting a ton of cards now have about 13 different decks to use and the board is still used for my kids so they don't forget any steps.

  • +1

Would be nice if I still had my pokemon cards from back in the day.

My absolute scumbag of a brother sold them all and then pretended they were stolen…

    • +1

saved you from collection hoarding i guess, still sucks thou, my condolences.

    • +3

Put your behind in the past

    • You didn't have anything good anyways.

    • +2

At least your mum didn't give your whole collection to the kid who eats glue.

  • Eh, there were mostly base set cards then some of the jungle series as much as I remember, would have been plenty of holos enough cards to fill a lunch box easily.

  • Last time I touched these was when I was in primary school… What’s the appeal of Pokemon cards as an adult? Is it the shiny pretty cards, nostalgia or is it an investment in true OzB spirit?

    • +3

It’s the smell for me and the thrill of opening. Then flog them off to keep the addiction going

  • I just priced matched jb hi fi with 15% off gift cards and such. Comes to around or under $50 per box ^^

  • Are they still 'worth' if opened?? Or do people usually just buy these and don't touch it till years later.

  • Now showing as $80

    • It's still available for $60.79 from Amazon AU in the other sellers section, it may just not be dispatched for a few weeks.
