Ext DVD-W Slim Samsung SE-208 USB Powered DVD Writer $25

Pretty good price for a portable slim USB powered DVD writer. I rarely use my CD/DVD so I use an external one and use it as needed across all my computers. I believe this model is 8x write speed.

    Freight Charge: $25.0

    Kills this deal!

  • Postage?

    Edit just saw above. Crap!!!

Granted, their site DOES say "Pickup available"…

  • better off buying from shoppingsquare for $37.94 ($27.95+$9.99 shipping)

    • If you live in the Hills district, then better to buy it here for $25.

  • I didn't think about shipping. Good deal if you live locally.

  • I have absolutely no use for one of these but it is a good price for local pickup customers. Handy for netbook users.

  • Anyone know if you can open it up and remove the drive for use as an internal drive?

i.e. it is a regular slim drive with standard slim SATA connections, or does it have soldered/proprietary connections?

Slim drives have their own connector, you will need an adapter for the connection [data and power] and a mounting bracket/tray and new face-plate/door for your case as the dimensions don't fit nicely with 5"1/4bays. Generally not worth it due to those additional costs, especially considering this is a DVD burner and a PC one should be cheaper. I recently went the extra mile as I really wanted a slot-loading blu-ray drive on my HTPC.

You could always just use the usb cable on the desktop.

      • Yeah, I want it as a replacement drive for my HTPC as my slim drive died. So the PC is designed to take a slim drive (i.e. I don't need a bracket) and I have the slim SATA connector (i.e. the adaptor you’re talking about) from my old drive.

It’s just slim drives are expensive and I was hoping this was a cheap way to get one. I guess I will get it and take a gamble that inside the casing it is a standard slim drive.

  • I got my external writer from the uk, worked out cheaper at the time - I got the one above for $34.99. It's out of stock but they have another for less $34.49

But if you pickup this one at $25, its much better.

Neg because it can be found for a lower price inc postage almost anywhere and local pickup price is not cheaper than normal.

  • Meritline have the same beast delivered for $31

    • They're located in the US. I don't think they have free delivery to AU

      • They do.

Except they don't. Item wont ship outside the US. Wish I could take that -ve back. My apologies.

    • Oops sorry about that one, i never actually added it to my cart to test shipping to AU.
Although i bought a heap of bits only yesterday from meritline without issue.
      Disregard my link above.

  • For $28 @ MSY (in Brisbane anyway) you can find product ID #5578 "Samsung External Slim Size DVD RW". Great price if not too far out of your way.
