Mr. Black, @op How do we connect the second monitor?
I mean with just one monitor we can use usb c thats including charging, so we need to run hdmi from laptop to the second monitor? Or just some cable from monitor 1 to 2?

      1. Getting a thunderbolt dock that supports dual 4K output (only if your laptop supports thunderbolt)
      2. Use any video output ports on your laptop if you have one, hdmi, dp, whatever it is (might not support 4K 60 depending on the port)
      3. Use usb c displaylink dock (not recommended due to latency, but enough for office work)
      • hmm well the idea of monitor with usb c with pd is to reduce cables but i guess if using 2 monitors we have no choice to run another cable from laptop to 2nd monitor as you say, or get a dock (extra cost).
i heard something like monitor with daisy chain usb c but maybe that is a higher end type of monitor

If you monitor has DP ports, you could connect your laptop to the first monitor using USB-C, then daisy chain the second monitor to the first one using a DP cable. You can plug in your peripherals to the USB ports on the monitor and that way your laptop only has one cable (USB-C) connected to the monitor, and that's it.

          • @Collabusta: Have you used this? MacBooks and most internal GPU intel chips dont support DP daisy chaining.
My solution has always been two cables (usually USB C) from the source (usually a laptop). There are workarounds (see above post about docks) but they arent cheap or perfect and come with their own challenges (eg need to power the dock).

            • @camr00: Yes I have used this in the past with my work Lenovo Thinkpad using USBC + Dell P2419HC as my primary and Dell U27XX (Not 100% sure about the exact model) and it worked great. I know the MacBook Airs don't support daisy chaining, but my brother has a similar setup using his 2018 intel-based MacBook Pro and it works just fine.

          • @Collabusta: so this dell monitor can do that, right? hmm hopefully OP can confirm when he got his 2 monitors

    • Me personally, I already have a Thunderbolt dock for my M1 MacBook Pro which can do dual extended HDMI outputs using just one cable from the dock to the MacBook.

Otherwise the easiest is to use 2 cables from your device
