The raw performance of this laptop is solid - but the TN panel and tiny 38Whr battery absolutely kills the deal - battery life is one of the primary reasons for buying a laptop, and the screen is what I'd be staring at all the time.

    • and also Power Adapter 65W Round Tip (3-pin)

      but it supports usb-c charging

      1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.2)

Need to get a laptop for high school student so need battery that lasts. What's the min Wh spec if 38Wh is not good enough?

Just get a MacBook Air 13 M1 and be done with it.

that reminds me of the time i wanted a new hatchback… i was looking at the Kia Cerato or Hyundai i30… but screw it… may as well just buy an Audi A3 sportback because… lifes too short

Number of schools have outright said no to Macs

    • What's your budget? I find that most windoze laptops age poorly both in general and also battery retention. Just my experience.

      • Under $1k is my budget.
Bought a MacBook air for my older child and had to get the battery replaced after 2 years so looking at other options now

        • That's interesting with the battery. In that case go for suggestion below.

          • @Naigrabzo: @Naigrabzo How is that interesting? because it's macbook batteries don't fail as often as windows systems? No matter the brand of laptop, batteries degrade overtime. That it is just the nature of batteries.

            • @Sean8802: I think the grade of batteries used in the Macbooks are higher quality than cheap windoze machines. YMMV.
The keyboard/track pad etc are also of another league.

I am comparing cheap windoze machines of course. Not Surface pro etc.

I find these things interesting. YMMV.

@Naigrabzo: @Naigrabzo Fair enough, trackpads on the macbooks is better than most windows devices unless it's the high-end machines they're on pare, personal preference at the end of the day. The keyboards on the other hand are superior on the high-end windows machines now. Have been for about 5 years. They would use cheaper battery cells in the cheaper windows devices. However, in the high-end windows machines, the batteries used are the same as apple.

                • @Sean8802: Agree. Didn't know about keyboards.

All I know is after using trackpad on mac, I don't want to ever go back to windoze. it's a software thing I assume.

    • this laptop is more than sufficient for a high school student use and even general office use with no lag for only $700 and should be good for the next 5 years if you upgrade the ram to 16GB (extra $37) in the next 3 years, https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-PC4-25600-SODIMM-260-Pin-M…

just buy a 65w 30000mAh powerbank ($81 today) to power the laptop

  • What about the display, as I don't have any experience with the anti glare one

    • I never buy reflective screens that are like mirror against bright light. Only small screen phones can handle reflection as you can cover the light with your body. With larger screens, it's hard to avoid. Reflective screens look bit better with perfect lighting if you use them inside, but laptops are meant to be mobile.
Every business laptop/screen or TV is anti-glare.
The 250nits can be challenging in very bright lighting.

      • Thank you
I got the HP elitebook and i find it perfect
Sometimes ofcourse I can't handle that reflection but most of time i am indoors

Better off spending the extra and getting a NUC laptop. The battery life is below average on this model.

  • If you're not planning to get a ram upgrade anyways, similar spec laptop can be found for much cheaper

  • Website and headline says i3, body text says i5.

    i3 is not a powerhouse…

  • how does the i3-1215U compare to the i5 11th gen?

  • Good find OP. I already bought an i3 11th Gen Lenovo at Good Guys for $600 with click frenzy. My only problem with the laptop is that there are a few dead pixels :(
