    $12.50 shipping to metro Melbourne

    • +2

That bit sucks, but it’s still pretty alright

      • +3

        And the card surcharge too

        • +4

Oh yeah lol, starting to look a little less desirable. I’m sure there will be some good coupon/cashback stacking deals come Black Friday for those who won’t bite at this price!

        • What about Paypal?

          • +2

            @Grey 13:

Surcharge is 1% for Card & PayPal payments

            • +4

@BargainsGrabber: Ohhhhh sneaky eh…I did not really see that when checking out. Will skip and HODL for Black Friday then. Won't be that far off. But all things considered this is probably the best price for this 4-pack.

            • +5

@BargainsGrabber: Just added to title & description so there is no misleading. Thanks guys.

        • +1

Yeah that's BS for an online only company.

    • +2

$14.90 to QLD, supposedly using Auspost so I'm not sure how the price is different.

  • @jv here you go for your Chromecast remote at approx $31.23 per unit (not inc cc surcharge)

    • Sorry a bit off-topic, but how did you tag a user?

      • +1

I don't think it really tags them - it's just a link to their profile. Click "Formatting Help" directly under the comment text box for instructions on they, but I don't think old mate got a notification on this one

        • I see - you used it as link. Thanks

a lady who was hiding from her x-husband because of domestic violence. She kept her address hidden from him but they a kid together. He was allowed public visits with the kid.
so the x husband put one of these inside a present for the kid and found their address that way.

      Cool story

      • thanks , i have another that involves dragons.

    • +15

Great story and a brilliant typing-saving idea of "x-husband".

      • +7

        x-men x-husband same same

        • +4

og xmen animated series theme blares in distance over speakers

    • +2

To be honest, this doesn't surprise me. I've heard many such stories similar to this. Also the ones about people placing an Airtag on a vehicle of someone to track them down and attack them/their property etc etc.

      • +3

tbf you could do the same with a cheap phone

        • Yes, very true, however I think the AirTags have just made performing such actions much easier and convenient.

          • +3

@Devastator0: and if you have an android phone you're (profanity). You dont get the notification saying theres one on you.

            • +3

@iLikeSales: Apple have released an app for Androids to help you detect it. But you obviously need to be paranoid enough to download and run it.
              https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.trac…

              • @ad62623: That's even if you know about it which I doubt anyone would do research. I guess if you're scared enough. You have to.

                • +1

@iLikeSales: Yea it's not a great solution, but for the paranoid, better than being forced to buy an iPhone.

            • @iLikeSales: Not even that, like, even if you're on an Apple device, but you don't constantly leave your Bluetooth switched on, you won't know either.

              • +1

@Devastator0: Ohh I actually didnt know about that. Will tell my friend thanks!

            • @iLikeSales: @iLikeSales I was thinking to get these for my car, if someone with iphone sits in the car, they would know that there is airtag in the car ?

              • @ChipsChicky: Yes, one friend of mine had it on his lanyard and the second friend she was with us the whole day. It was only after she saw the notification it showed her a map of where it "followed her" throughout the day.

      • they show that someone is tracking you in the phone it is using to get data from ..just tried it out so all good

        • I don’t think you can track it like that. All you can do is say it’s lost and then the finder can contact you.

    • +5

      Holy shit that is despicable…

    • +4

Apple has released an update warning the person, if they have an iPhone, that there is an AirTag nearby not belonging to them. So it should prevent or stop these sort of dodgy practices

      • And this would be going off like crazy at an airport or train station.

        • +3

I believe it is time related.

        • it wouldnt go off if you have an android phone. So if someone wants to stalk you. You're a goner.

          • @iLikeSales: There is an app for android called Air Guard that scans for all these tackers, ie. air tags, tiles, samsung smart tags etc..

If you're reliant on "Android" to be like apple and track "Android" products you're asking google to track the entire market of products, where as apple is only tracking and detecting their own products.

I traveled with a mate who had a tile and after 30 mins the air guard app alerted me to a tile tracking me and it showed me the starting and current location of the alert.

        • It only goes off if the airbag is away from the owners phone for x minutes. So it's unlikely to be going off at an airport, but it would catch it in the above scenario.
Doesn't really help since they would still have the address.

    • +11

      And that x husband's name?
      .
      .
      Albert Einstein

    • +4

Anyone got a good deal on CR2032 4 pack of batteries? Mine are around a year old and need replacing.

  • $22 shipping to regional Vic (100km from Melbourne)?!? They'll probably just use Sendle too

Waiting for Eufy's version to make it over here. Work with FindMy (using Apple's network) and also work on Android.

    https://www.androidpolice.com/eufy-tracker-airtag-android/

    • +1

If ur a samsung user, buy smart tag instead

    • +1

Yeah, that Eufy's Smarttrack looks interesting. Unfortunately only on sale in US and already sold out till next year :(

      • +2

Yes its already incredibly popular. Sold out in the US, Canada and the UK.

The Eufy one makes use of apple's network and android, so you get the best of both ecosystems. Samsung only uses android (possibly only Samsung?) networks.

    • Thanks for headup about the Eufy. Definitely lookout for them

    • +2

Just looked this up. Apparently no Ultra-wideband support so not as fully capable as an AirTag on FindMy.

      • Correct, it cannot take advantage of UWB available from iPhone 12 or newer for close proximity locating of your items. Only AirTag can do that.

    + Surchage

    What is Surchage ?

    • who is SurChage

He's Charlie's official password expiry manager

      • thanks

  • -1

Doesn't have 3g capabilities, imagine if it did…

Dam a new evolution of society would appear and guns would be the last to fear.(your online information would not be important any more).

One day 3g portability will surpass Bluetooth. Bah Bluetooths like 5g has limitations on transporting packets long distance.

    • +4

One day 3g portability will surpass Bluetooth.

Maybe after 2024, by which time it would have been shut down by all the carriers.

    • They have a bluetooth network already, so as long as there is somebody iphone near by, it will be tracked.

In US the samsung tag as 4g option, but charging it frequently is must.

  • A heads up for those thinking about using them for lost luggage at Airlines. I just can't back from a flight overseas and all 4 of my luggage were delayed by a couple of days. I thought things could have been better if i had had airtags, or that's what everyone told me. After talking with the person responsible for lost luggage at the airport she said that having them doesn't help at all except giving me peace of mind, since it can't help them move the luggage faster or identify it quicker.
The only scenario would be if the airlines acknowledges the luggage as totally lost, in which case you could at least point them in the right direction. Happy to be corrected with someone else's experience if things might be different.

    • +3

Funnily enough. I just read this article from a few days ago about a guy who used his Air Tag to prove to the luggage handlers that his luggage had indeed made its way to Melb but was able to convince them to let him get it himself:

"Taking matters into his own hands, Miller decided to drive back to Melbourne Airport to retrieve the bag himself, vlogging the experience for his YouTube account.
After a few helpful encounters with Melbourne Airport staff, Miller found himself at the Swissport corporate office.
They then walked me down the hallway to another office and then 'Ping'… the phone lit up and told me exactly where my bag was," Miller said.
As traffic through Australia's airports continues to rise over the school holiday period, travellers are being warned to anticipate potential delays.
"Airlines are doing everything that they can to reconnect people with their baggage as quickly as possible," Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said."

    • +4

That's the point though isn't it? If your luggage gets lost, at least you have a clearer idea where and can try and facilitate its recovery - I'd still feel upset, but better than if I had absolutely no idea and was completely reliant on the airlines to track it down.

    • +1

Used them in September. Baggage missed transit connection due to long lines at check in. Airtag was the only thing that the airline and baggage handling company could use to see where the bag was. Agreed it won't help the luggage move quicker. It is more for peace of mind, if there is a myriad of suitcases backed up at the airport it's stuck in and this can help narrow down its location. Wouldn't fly without one now though, just reassuring knowing at least we can track it and in case it goes missing or someone actually steals luggage.

    • +1

At least now I found the reasons to buy the AirTags .. great idea for soon to be travellers .

  • +1

Decided to get this for the heck of it. I used my $250 Coles Mastercard for the additional ~7.3% discount. Was surprised that the card was allowed to be used on the site as I was half expecting it to be rejected as there was no PIN number etc on it.

Total cost for me for delivery to Melbourne was $126.15.

Now to look up how to use them. :-)

    • I bought them for our luggage going to Japan next year. Too many scary luggage stories lately!

      • What do you mean by scary luggage stories?
Like criminals hiding weapons, drugs or dead bodies in other people's luggage?

    • Sorry I got the same card. How do we enable the discount.

  • +1

Total to WA is $127.5 so $5.50 cheaper than going to costco ($133)

    • +7

Saved yourself $100s by not going to Costco and buying non essential items you didn’t know you needed

  • $10 shipping is standard when going within the state

  • +1

There's no 1% surcharge for using ZIP as a payment

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thank you. This is awesome - I ummed and ahhed about the previous deals on Ozb. This one is even better!

  • I was thinking to get these for my car and kids bag, if someone with iphone sits in the car, they would know that there is airtag in the car ?

    • I believe that with the more recent iOS updates, a person who has the iPhone (and is not logged in as the owner) will get a message on their iPhone if it looks like the Airtag is following them. This can trigger with things like UBER drivers that have a AirTag in there etc as well. My step mother was freaked earlier this week when she got these security warnings about being 'tracked' on her iOS up to date iPhone.

      • oh, was it a long ride ?

        • Not sure how long. The app had posted a message to her saying "AirTag Detected Near You" with a map and locations where it pinged near her.

    • Even if they didn't have an iphone, the air tag would chirp when it detects movement without the air tag owner's iphone in proximity. The chirp is not that loud though.

      • someone commented before that they removed the speaker from airtag to avoid that.

  • Still available, I just order one.

  • Ordered one, probably the cheapest one yet. Thanks OP!!

  • Can u use this on Android ?

    • No

      • DOU~~~!

    • No but have a look at Tiles. They are similar but not as effective (they use Alexa devices and other Tile users to track remotely, instead of the entire iOS ecosystem).

      • Watched a few comparisons of Airtags / Samsung tag / Tile on Youtube and Tile seemed pretty far behind.

        Here's an example.

        https://youtu.be/9wefUV_bR0Y

  • +1

I wanted to put an AirTag on my bike, as an anti-theft measure. But that's not very effective now that anyone can detect their presence, including thieves.

    • Not a bad thing though. If you found a way to install it inside the bike (don't know your bike design… but inside the handlebar or seat. Then thieves would detect it, not be able to find it and then leave your bike alone.

      • +1

Can you actually fit an AirTag inside the handlebar? Most handlebars seem too small to fit one.
As for seat, it is not hard for thieves to remove from under the seat.
The point is AirTag is not good for retrieving stolen items, only good for finding lost items.

        • There are mounts designed to look like part of the bike (deliberately being vague here) that will take a tag.

Or hide (in a pouch or tape etc) under a mudguard or saddle. Even inside a saddle if you can patch it back up neatly.

I have mine mounted inside a motorbike and it would be hard to locate.

      • I think anyone can turn the tag off if they get an alert on their phone right? So the thief would get an alert, if they have an iPhone, and just click on ‘Disable AirTag’.

        • I doubt you can turn off someone else's tag. Maybe you can disable notifications.

        • +1

Need to find the tag itself and then remove the battery. You yourself cannot 'disable' the mystery AirTag via your iDevice though.
