  • weren't you just defending them moments ago, akio?

  • Well the singular word actually refers to there being only one catch a day (normally) but whatever…I'm leaving the Wii in my shopping cart, please let me buy it QQQ :D

  • I'm leaving that wii in my cart till they rip it out.

  • "It’s not like you have to spend 3 hours waiting in line like the cheap petrol"
lol, this is even worse since its wasted 8hrs of our time for nothing
btw, i would have voted negative if i was able to

  • QQQ cannot be bothered coming back here. Great pushing your site. Once it goes to shit you run and hide. Why bother posting here at all.
As said before I bet all WII's were sold to family and friends. Or one person put 50 quantity in and bang they were gone. Anyone ever tried to get tickets at ticketmaster.
Same crap friends of people who work there buy the first 10 rows to scalp later.

    • limit on the wii was 1.

I presume not many people got one due to server traffic, because I clicked BITE ME on the Wii with just 7mins to go… it was still on bite me right up till the end according to other reports.

  • I'm still defending them…catchoftheday is genuine…not their fault their server can't support like 400% of normal traffic. But I just want my WII! I've been looking forward to it all week >_<

They put up a small fish lol http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

    • Get off the crack man, if you think you're gettin the Wii in you cart, you are farkin dreamin …

  • The Samsung camera sold out way before one hour. I had it in my shopping cart but could not proceed any further.

    http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp19/joke_2008_bucket/cat…

    • I went to buy 3, How the hell can they charge 14 bucks for 3 of these when they are like under 100ml i mean seriously i recon they make half there money from the shipping of items :(

  • Any1 know what the limit will be on the TomToms?

  • IF ANYONE GETS THE TOM TOMS I WOULD BE HAPPY TO BUY 1 OR2 OFF YOU…

    • At the RRP? Deal!

  • Had the Wii and then the camera in the cart, missed out on both :( not happy

  • fark this !

IF NO TOM TOM … WE RIOT!!

  • Roses are red
    Fireworks are lit
If I could brew up a big one
    On COTD I would ……..

  • Well, it looks like now the Wii is over and done with, traffic has completely disappeared and the site loads like normal again. Funnily, I noticed that dailydeals.com.au doesn't load at all, it just shows the "sorry" page… (sorry if it has already been mentioned before. Didn't read all 7 pages of discussion).

    • Well if you haven't noticed give it about 1 minute to go and the site will lock up agian

  • Really? I felt plenty of traffic when the cameras hit.

  • Well i guess they are sold out so no point hammering for another 9 minutes…

  • ^ That was left over wii wanters

  • Traffic has only really been bad in the first 30 or so minutes every hour, then it gets better until the next item is released….

  • the wii traffic was bad, then I got a glimpse at about 7:56, added to cart, nothing. good luck to those that got one.

  • Poor form on this promo. No excuse for the lack of preparation.

I'm also suspicious on the available quantity of each item. Wouldn't be surprised if it were in the single digits!

  • running smoothly :P

    with a few minutes left

  • The site is just about to lock up again in about 2mins…

  • Does anyone know the RRP for the Tom Tom?

    • the cheapest on their website is 229

  • Well, I'm disappointed I missed the Wii, but glad I scored the Nano, just wondering what colour arrives…

Ah well, hopefully they bring up another 'small fish' with the Wii :P

  • One thing we should all be as diligent about as we are with our bargain hunting is giving COTD the flick.

After tomorrow, everyone should delete it from their bookmarks and history and forget about the stupid site altogether!

'Unexpectedly high traffic' give me a break first you scam me into thinking I have a legitimate chance of getting a good deal and then you insult my intelligence? Cee ya COTD!

(from the front page): "we've become one of Australia's most loved websites."…that took two years and now your one of the most hated in one fell swoop, well done!!

  • does anyone know which model of TomTom it is?
the image provided earlier today seems different from the one on the advertising birthday banner

  • I've seen some people post that they ordered more than one camera just cause they didnt want a pink one. If anyone got extra cameras (Even if they are pink) and wants to sell them for the COTD price, I would love one! ^_^

  • site locking up now…lol

  • I expect all these haters to be back next year, probably angry all over again.

  • next one?

  • Is it just a coincidence that two different people posted the same thing? o.o

  • COTD are price based not customer serviced focused. Therefore people will return as long as price is right. But this is ridiculous

  • Got a GPS..

  • erm but ebay's flogging it off for around $150?????

  • SOLD OUT

    • In four minutes too.. grr!

  • FFS it is too, in 4 minutes….this is useless.

  • the GPS in the Ad was a TomTom One (new one). Now its the V3. The difference is that TomTom One has 2008 maps and TTS and V3 has 2007 maps and no TTS.

  • Sold out already…. 5 mins..

  • Sold out! How can it be so quick? It's only been 4 minutes.

  • what sold out already, after only 5min

  • What crap clicked bite me at 9.00pm on the knocker. Got through to payment took 3 minutes. At 9:03pm it said sold out. I smell a rat. You are scammers COTD. YOU HAD INSUFFICIENT STOCK TO CATER FOR DEMAND!!

  • Got one going through the post paypal bit now… gunna time out for sure lol

  • azndragon is right

but ditto. its sold out already.

i think the word for CoTD is "sad case".
    2 words rather.

  • how much is postage?

    • $9.95

    • ahhhhhhhhhhhhh hahahah - I dare you to click on the postage link.

  • Well I doubt that they had very many… Prob like 10, lol

  • had it in my cart in the 1st min, then went to pay and then..

    sold out already!!

there is seriously something fishy here…

  • 9:00pm Just for the fun of it having a go at the Tom Tom :-) Already signed in, clicked bite me, sign in again, index page, bite me, sign in again, (each time slower to load as people hit the server), sold out. It is now 9:05.

  • damn that wii.. went to checkout my gps within the first minute, but hadnt cleared the cart from before.
by then trying to remove the wii and continue was a write-off.

  • Sold out in 5 mins, lol

    I was sooo close!!!

  • gay

  • Got into checkout within 5 mins and yep, sold out. Not happy Jan!

  • anyone get one?????i clicked bite me the second it came up…..what crap!

  • mine says it is still processing the payment in paypal…going to let it run…see what it says

    • Great….not only will you get no GPS but they will also fleece you of $100.

COTD = Crime Of The Decade!!

    • When it finally loads it will just take u back to checkout saying its sold out…

  • I do not have the traffic of Catch of the Day but I do have traffic of OzBargain. Here's the network traffic graph taking from Cactus:

    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2008/10/29/848_graph_image.png

I am not even selling anything — people just came to OzBargain to whinge about the fact that CotD timed out on them, and we are showing similar traffic spikes right on the hour (and about 3x more on average compare to yesterday).

Our server is coping "okay" (USD$30/month account, what do you expect). CotD's server at Rackspace must be burning right now.

    • Server?

The bloody well better have more than one. They're bragging they've shipped over 1 million products… if they can do this and run on 1 server whilst saying they are planned for traffic, they deserve all the abuse.

  • It wasn't even the TomTom advertised…It was the older model

  • wow - 66 neg over 76 pos .. this is also history in the making for OzBargain

    • It's almost parity now…

      • I'm sure it would be over 100 negs by now if we could take back our positives from more than 12 hours ago :)

      • If not for the non-vote-revoking-after-24-hours policy, there will be 150 negative votes.

Scotty, I reckon we should be able to change our positive votes to negative. The policy is to supposedly prevent fraud (against something or something else, I don't really know why), but this deal is current, and we want to revoke our votes and vote negative instead. This "deal" was posted a couple of days ago but the deal itself is now!

        • How ironic - Just like stock market .. #1 Top Deals in the last four days, then, crashed and boom into oblivion ..

          how ironic..

  • Anyone got the number for cotd i want to call them and give them a wording to, i just got rejected when i was 2 mins in and on the last screen after paypal…

  • Ok i was holding off for my negative vote until the tom tom
    Enough is enough
Everyone can access the site … no one can make it through to checkout
Shit process, shit site … run by morons

  • Where the hell is QQQ?? you wana come and give a bit of an explaination on wtf is going on with this f'ked up sale?

  • server crashed again….not even loading up the page now

  • Guys everytime we comment the person who made this post gets an email… Thats pretty unlucky for them…

    • thats a bloody pisser….lol….glad i am not him!

      • I haven't gotten any emails yet.

  • Got the GPS!
Had 3 windows counting down from the last catch and clicked refresh at 5 seconds and got it first go!!

Try it next time, no harm i guess.

Good luck everyone! Its been a rough afternoon :/

Edit: I have passed through the checkouts and have recieved the confirmation emails from both catchoftheday and paypal so its a done deal

  • ffs. been spamming cotd since 11:50am and i cant get on..as if they upgraded there servers. they can fit a extra person?

  • Can the people who votes positive, vote negative if they choose to!?

  • No one can get in, and if they can no one can get through payment.
And they are selling TomTom One v3 when the photo shows v4.
    What's the point.

A few more -ve votes and it will overtake the +ve votes…

  • if it gets to the index page on payment does that mean you got it?

  • Tom Tom SOLD OUT !, 39 mins left to hour!

  • A Total Scam!

I logged within the first few seconds, added the item to my basket, clicked on paypay to pay. Authenticated into the Paypal site, clicked continue… and the items were sold out (all within 20 secs!)

    TOTALLY BEMISED!!

  • don't buy anything from COTD. They've debited my CC and I've got no purchase history with COTD because the site crashed and my bank doesn't want to know.

    • Instruct (please note the word instruct) your bank to do a chargeback. http://au.pfinance.yahoo.com/credit-cards/wrong.html

It is then up to the seller to establish that you have the goods in question.

If there is no purchase history listed at COTD then it makes it a little hard for COTD to claim that you haven't paid for it.

  • QQQ will prob show up later with a 'special' bargain just for ozbargainers ;)

    • LOL, They better, or they will loose ALOT of customers…

  • They sold out around a few secs before 9:02PM

  • UnEthical SCAMMERS , I will never buy anything from them again

  • Farkin POS site, had the TomTom in my cart, entered payment details … locked up!!!!

    • be prepared to have lost the money, the same think happened to me and the funds are gone from my cc but there is no order history.

    • Me too! Now I'm worried about my credit card…

      • check it online, they took the money out of mine even though on the last page it came up as sold out and there is no order history

  • waiting for all day, only can get a unwanted product
    BDAY5: 1.5" Digital Pocket Photoframe! () = $4.95

others all sold out in 1 min
what kind of sale is this……………..

    • very popular sale :/

  • Scotty wrote…

    There is a differences between

    1. At fault because you fail to anticipate the incoming traffic, which render the site unusable.
    2. At fault because you deliberately slow down the site to unusable to hide the fact you don’t have enough stock.

I am not saying that CotD is not at fault. They should have done more work in planning. However from the response in this forum, it seems that many people want to believe in (2) instead, which I do not believe is true.

Scotty, what is suspicious is the fact that just 7 minutes before the hour ended for Wii, everyone could get to access the main page, not only from ozbargain, but members from other forums also reported that they could access the home page(just this page was operational) and some lucky (sorry…unlucky), who got upto the checkout ended up with 'SOLD OUT'.
I bet there was no change in the traffic from the start of the listing to the last 7 minutes, the same traffic was still trying to get through.

Is there any explanation for this…. paranormal.. happenings.
