Don't do it. I have it. It's slow AF. Especially at $300.

Came here to say this. It's worth spending a bit extra for something more modern.

    • I'm surprised. Still using mine, and happy.
It can be a bit slow starting/switching apps, but works fine once going. This is an ultra-portable - I'm not trying to multi-task.

Great for reading or watching videos in bead, as only 450g. Or keep in the backpack for when I need to remote-desktop to fix a problem.
That said, if buying now I'd go for the newer model.

  • slowest Chromebook in history

Yes slow but it's enough for my use case of just watching Netflix prime etc.

Also quicker/longer updates than an android tablet

The magnetic stand is also awesome

  • I think this still has a use case. My kids have this and it's perfectly fine for them (YouTube, web browsing, zoom, movies, etc). Plus it's not too upsetting when they drop and smash it (which has happened). I think it's a good basic device for very low requirements. Agree that if you want to use it as anything more than the basics it's not enough, but for this price (and for my use case) it's better than a similarly-priced tablet and has enough going for it. There are more powerful options like the recently listed 8GB version but that's $100 (33%) more and personally not worth the extra cost for me. Reviews are also consistently pretty good. It can be the right device for the job, just need to be clear on its limitations.

I don't find it particularly slow, as others have reported. Having said that, If I was buying one now, I'd recommend paying an extra $100 and getting the Duet 3 from the current JB Hifi deal.

  • worst tablet. very slow and laggy. and it's not android interface

  • This deal is way better for $399.

  • Nothing wrong with mine. Temper your expectations and you're fine. Currently being used in Japan for email, forums, watching videos (both stream and local) and SNES emulation on plane flights. If it breaks or gets stolen I'm down sub $300 compared to if I took my Surface Pro or similar.

Normally it's just a secondary device and again fits the requirement.

Thought about buying the Duet 3 on special but really can't justify.

    $269 Delivered now.

    • Thanks, I updated the price

  • Slow but really depends what you're using it for. It has 22hrs+ battery life where as the faster tablets would get you about 10 hrs of battery life. If you're just using it as a second screen for emails, twitter feed etc you really don't need anything else. Being browser based and not app based this could last you forever.
