  • I don't see the 64GB option, any particular colour combo?

    • +1

I checked blue and it had 64Gb

    • Stupidly (Interface design) but Smartly (Seller) wise, it goes 128,256,64 across the page

      • I thought someone just had the list sorted alphabetically.

  • Let us choose a 365 day plan and it would be nice!

  • +21

    wait for 13mini

    • I am actually very interested in trying out an iPhone 13 Mini instead of the 8+ that I am still using.
Might get more value out of size since I dont use my phone for any sort of media consumption.

    • +1

We've had a taste that 13 mini is $999 for the 512GB at HN. Not worth it now. This is from 12 mini 128gb user got it from Amazon earlier this year for $799.

      • looks like HN does not have 13mini stock anymore.

        • +1

          A taste does not linger.

    • +1

Agree, may be worth the wait and see what other deals we get leading up to the black friday sale :)

      • +1

I have been looking for 13 mini and 12 mini recently. It is incredible hard to find stock anywhere now. So i won't really bet on the black friday sale unless there are more stocks sitting somewhere in Australia, especially the 12 mini (with any >128GB). 13 mini is still available at the apple store. I would say that this is a very good deal for the 12 mini and in stock.

        • Should have expected stock shortages and purchased the 128GB purple 12 mini when it was $799 at Amazon AU.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: yes, i missed out on the purple 12 mini deal but i was looking to buy 256GB. If one could get the aldi 10% off amazon gift card next week, that would be a reasonable deal for the 12 mini on amazon. If there is still any stock left at all or manages to get the aldi amazon gift card. Luck of a draw so this is still a pretty good deal.

            • @koala123: Yeah at least you still have options that's good. I would buy sooner rather than later if you want my opinion.
I think they stopped making the 12 mini and they will probably stop making the 13 mini as well.

I read apple has a really streamlined production line. They only make exactly what they predict they can sell and apparently it's pretty accurate. And apparently they can shutdown and start production of other newer models really easily.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: Compared to other big manufacturers, yes. Having more focus in their product lines helps. If they had a 'pro' model in the mini size (i.e. all three camera lenses and the 120Hz screen) that'd be my preference. Definitely won't happen now.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: thanks. Yes, exaclty that so i have gone ahead and purchased the 13 mini via the apple gift card deal yesterday. :) Might not be the best deal but at least OK. I was fine to just get the 12 mini but stock is limited other than the mint colour 12 mini on amazon. I didn't want to take the chance on amazon gift card.

    • Yes, as someone who has used both, the 13 mini fairs better in summer (if it ever gets hot in Melbourne again haha). 13 mini has larger battery and better cooling system, even if you don't play games or browse social media often, it will lengthen the phone's usable life.

  • Pity no usb c charging yet

  • +1

I will wait until Saturday to see what Costco offers for 13 mini.

    • +2

Could be nothing on costco and sold out here by then

  • Description says from $549, title says $674?

So minimum outlay is $549 + $125, then you can cancel with nothing more to pay?

    • +4

I've factored in the cost of the cheaper of the two 90-day SIMs to the title.

      • +1

        Got it, thanks

  • +1

Are these better than an android phone (which I can also afford)?

    • +6

      depends

    • +17

yes, but not as good as a train.

    • -5

Pfff Android users can’t afford iPhones. That’s why they use an Android.

      /s

      • Pfft, iOS users can't afford Android's high end - the Vertu with 18K gold and diamonds.

      • +5

LOL. Clearly havent see the prices of the galaxy fold 4 1TB.

    • Yes and no. Series 40 is better and Symbian is better again if you need more functionality.

      • how would it compare to S20 FE 5G

        • They're very different phones. I do have the S20FE 5G and am happy with it. I wouldn't be looking to upgrade for another year.

I think the main deciding factor between the two outside of OS would be size. Smaller size also means smaller battery. IIRC, there were complaints about low battery capacity.

One of the things that appeals about the mini would be less temptation to use it during the day.

    • It really depends on many things.

Such as the products you plan to pair it with etc.

Headphones with LDAC? only Android can do that.
wearOS smart watch? Only android supports full compatibility such as replying to messages, answering phone calls etc.
Apple watch? Only iPhone supports full compatibility as I wrote above.
And I am sure there are more minor things to consider if you plan to use it with certain products. I dunno such as getting discounted giftcards Google Play store vs Apple giftcard etc.

      • +1

Ios calling app sucks big time, mixes all phone, whatsapp, teams and other calls..
Ios keyboard swipe type is a frustration in its full glory..
Ios hatred for google app ecosystem is no less of enmity than that of ukraine and Russia
Is ios faster than android? - NO NOT AT ALL!
My 4+ year mate 10 pro is still faster than my 1 year old 12 mini, and it always was..
Battery backup is a different story, you can't expect backup from a small and light phone, I mean you have to comprise somewhere.. That's same for Android as well as ios phones.

    • +1

Normally apple products are fit for IT beginer (iphone is like ipad + call/text) or nerd(ipad + iphone + macbook+ etc)

android priducts simmilar like using windows on pc, not easy at first but once you know it then you can use it easily and can customise as well

  • +13

    12 mini, battery sucks.

    • What are you using now?

      • +8

I'm using a 12 mini, can confirm the battery sucks. Had zero issues with the XS I had before it with battery life.

        • Ahhh that sucks, How many hours you get?

          • @czz: 87% battery health. 4 hour intense SOT

          • @czz: my usage varies a lot, but I generally don't get past 5pm anymore (90% battery health). If I need to use it as a hotspot then I have to have a charger with me, it won't last more than a few hours doing that.

Definitely not a heavy user at all and don't play games, it's just a terribly small battery.

        • Is it because of the 5G usage ?

          • +4

@yht: No. The battery size is too small.

            • @ChickenAdobo: Have they improved this for the 13 mini?

              • @dinglejerry: I think it really depends on use case.
But I assume most people are App hungry users who are out and about on their notifications like a fly.
For those people who use a bunch of data and have like 50+ apps installed I would say there won't be much difference just going by the difference in battery capacity.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: does install a lot of app but almost never use them affects the battery? i thought only the apps in ram affects the battery.

                  • @Hornpub: If you never use them then less battery drain.
But if you want your notifications always instantly and respond to everything by keeping apps open it will drain your battery. Most people also keep background activity switched on to get instant notification and updates constantly from the mobile network.

Seems like the very bad battery life issue is more of a problem and there is something wrong with specifically the 12 Mini.

              • @dinglejerry: I just moved from a 12 Mini (97% battery health) to a new 13 Mini. Difference is quite noticeable. Unfortunately the 13 Mini is a little but bulkier and heavier which is a shame because I like my phones to be as small and light as possible.

                • @LanceVance: Thanks for the info. I was thinking to wait for the 13 mini to hopefully go on special at some point as not in a rush.

                  • @dinglejerry: I was in the same position but ended up pulling the trigger, found someone on FB marketplace that bought their 256GB 13 Mini a few weeks ago and changed their mind (verified with a receipt) which I bought off them for $900 rather than $1200 retail. Sold my 128GB 12 Mini for $650, pretty happy with only a $250 upgrade for what I plan to be a long term phone considering it looks like the last small iphone for quite a while.

                    • @LanceVance: Yeah I am going to keep an eye out on BF and see if anything comes up… my only concern is last time I had an iphone it didn't seem to be that sturdy / last that long (but that was for work and was an iphone 4!!). Hence switched to android. I would make sure to get a good case for it.

              • @dinglejerry: Yes but don't expect a magical all day phone with no charge. You will need to top up if using for media consumption

              • @dinglejerry: Yes, the processor in the 13 mini is much more efficient and gets much better battery life.

Depends on your usage too, my wife is on her 12 mini phone all day and makes it through till 8:30 at night when we put our phones out on the charger in the kitchen, so I think it doesn't just depend on how much you are on it, but what apps you use.

I'd get the 13 mini though if you can find one for a good price.

                • @Scrobo: Thanks - I'm hoping there will be a good deal on one for BF

    • I agree with this, I used it for a day and return the next day.

      • For another day of use?

        • Rinse. repeat. Ofcourse.

    • Not sure. I average 5hrs a day of use. I drop it on wireless charger to 80% and gets me overnight to the next day.

But then I don't netflix / you tube on it constantly. Just keeping up with business stuff.

    • +1

I originally wanted to upgrade my se 1st gen to mini as I prefer the smaller form factor but reviews reported poor battery life. Got a 13 and can go a full day+ without charging. No regrets whatsoever

      • Yeah I think this is the smart move. If you are anything like the average person and use your phone a lot go for the bigger models.
Battery life on Mini models will only be acceptable for light users. And I am saying it as a stretch. I know someone who is a light user and they say they still charge their 12 Mini every day to avoid having it reach 0% unexpectedly.

        • 11 is best at battery

    • +1

Writing this on a 12 mini.
Gets me through the day unless really taxing it(eg doing a lot of video). It can get hot.
The battery life is better than any phone a few years ago (eg iPhone 8 iPhone SE 1&2) but not as good as a larger phone that has room for a bigger battery.

You can’t deny the laws of physics.

If small size and light weight is important to you. buy the 13 mini which is basically the same but more efficient and better battery. If price is also important get the 12 mini.
If longest battery life is most important, get an iPhone 14 Max Pro

  • fyi one year ago we had a similar deal for iPhone 12 mini - iPhone 12 Mini 64GB $720, 128GB $767.40

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/648391

    -

My wishful thinking is… we should see iPhone 13 mini at these prices?

    @telstra

    • Wishful thinking. I have already moved on with a bigger phone with a bigger battery in my s22 ultra. Batterygate is no longer an issue when I suffer with my 12 mini.

    • I got 128gb from this deal. Traded it in last week for $1597 13 Pro 512gb by Officeworks

    • Exactly same deal I got trapped in another iphone, still carrying my mistake

      • Sell it and buy something you like? iPhones tend to keep value.

    • $699 on the deal before that

May as well get the S21FE for $600 than this thing.

    • +7

      They're very different phones:

      • Size
      • Battery
      • OS

I doubt they'd be too much crossover between buyers.

  • +3

I have the 12 mini and I love it. Battery is horrendous though. I’m thinking of getting a 13 mini.

    • How much improvement can you expect though from the same sized design of the 13 mini?

I think it's better you wait for the next SE release if it's 6.1 inches like I just saw on youtube, release date should be in March April as well not the usual end of the year September release for the other iPhones.

Otherwise go for the normal bigger models they can fit bigger batteries. Better than paying for a 13 mini and still finding the battery is not enough for you.

iPhone SE 2023 doesn't make sense to me. Why would Apple do a refresh just 1 year in which:

        • It will be the same CPU.
        • Even if it is based on iPhone XR, it will add more competition to iPhone 14 (which is still A15).
        • If it doesn't have USB-C, then Apple will most likely need to introduce another SE in 2024. 3 SE refreshes in 3 years for SE? Really?
        • If it does have USB-C, doesn't it make iPhone 14 series look bad?

I feel iPhone SE 2023 predictions are mostly click-baits.

        • "I feel iPhone SE 2023 predictions are mostly click-baits."

Maybe but the video I watched showed the written text posts from those famous leakers who were accurate in the past.

"Why would Apple do a refresh just 1 year in which:"

iPhone SE 2 and 3 with the iPhone 8 design are really not selling well. So I think it's possible.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Jon Prosser? Some of his predictions turned out to be wrong.

It doesn't make sense. Even though it is a LCD screen, it is still a larger screen than the current SE. Price will go up. Also, it will have a somewhat decent battery. It becomes an iPhone 13R.

iPhone SE's role is to provide a low cost option for people who wants to be in Apple ecosystem.

            • @netsurfer: "Jon Prosser? Some of his predictions turned out to be wrong."

Yeah I swear I saw macotakara in the text shown in the video, but maybe you are right the video was using the text from previous leaks as clickbait.

Not so sure it will be LCD. I think price bump (as always and maybe even more due to shrinkflation going by the iPad price jacks), OLED, iPhone 11 style body with rounded edges, single or dual camera. That's all I can remember from the video but they seemed to suggest it will be based on the iPhone X/11 style body.

Also going by the iPad price jacks with minor features removed, I think you are right it will basically be named SE 4 but won't be anything like it.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: An iPhone SE "2023" with dual cameras (perhaps based on 11), OLED, A15, priced at a really low price. Really? That's going to be a slap in Apple's face for making iPhone 14 series so expensive.

That OLED screen is going to be bigger than iPhone 13 Mini. The battery (if based on XR or 11) will be larger than 13 Mini. So, Apple's idea to sell more phones is to introduce a fair price iPhone 13"R", call it iPhone SE "2023" and give their current phones a hart time to sell. Sound very Apple to me… NOT.

LCD screens make more sense since there are more suppliers (and much cheaper). iPhone SE 2023 just doesn't make sense to Apple.

                • @netsurfer: "priced at a really low price."

I did say "price bump" in my comment above, but maybe I should have wrote price jack.
I am thinking since the Mini is going to be no more, so effectively the new SE 4 will replace and be an overpriced SE model that's not exactly mini lol.
You saw the price on the new 10th gen budget iPad right? It's starting at $749 which is a $250 hike on the previous gen. Then they jacked the previous gen by $50 to try close the gap.
I am thinking this is the kind of price bump the SE4 will receive. So closer to $9XX while still being technically "cheaper" than the current 13 Mini starting price of $1049.

By the way my opinion is Apple is not very apple for a while now. Maybe also influenced by covid but even before then they seem to think flooding every product range to confuse the customer is the best tactic.

              • +1

@harshbdmmaster718: Lately, these Apple future product clickbait youTube videos are getting more and more creative and BS. Earlier on, there were so many of them saying M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs will be 3nm unlike M2. That makes no sense. Eventually, they realised it and backtracked that.

The reality is that they love to give you multiple revisions of a product leak (more like guesses) because you will keep on watching them.

                • @netsurfer: Yeah honestly I am not that big into Apple products but I am very happy with my 9th gen budget iPad which I got for under $499 and Apple TV 4K 1st gen which I got from price matching a deal here on ozbargain. I have watched other "leak" videos for VR headsets for example and they seemed pretty reliable, so maybe I applied that to the iPhone SE 4 leak video I was recently recommended.

On the other hand I have heard from others the iPhones seem to be going downhill in terms of quality and performance. For example one person told me they were very happy with the quality of their 5S with the battery lasting 5-6 days when minimal use, good reception and everything else. Until it came to upgrade to the 7 they noticed issues such as heating up and battery drain when in use. Still not much of a problem. Until they got their 12 Mini which apparently has double the antennae of the 7 which only has two antennae, but the 12 Mini has horrible reception compared to the 7 in the same locations. I think this is one of the reasons for the reported very poor battery life of the 12 Mini, there is some issue with the antennae and the mobile reception always being poor adds to the already bad battery drain.

Also one more thing I remember is they said the iPhone 12 Mini's battery seems quite efficient when in use (the amount of charge seems to drop slower than with their 7 using the same apps) but when it comes to standby battery life the 12 Mini is just terrible. So even with minimal use they still have to charge it everyday, compared to the 5 to 6 days from the 5S and 3 to 4 days on the iPhone 7. This is the part which makes me suspect the overall poor mobile reception is the issue.

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: Hoping you will try to be more objective. Just too many speculation and subjective cases. A lot of OZBers got iPad 9th gen for $399 (some people even got it for lower than that). iPad 10th gen, it's too early to comment on that as we do not know how low it will go in a year's time when there is a big sale.

If you don't have clear understanding of iPhone or Apple products, perhaps refrain from recommending, especially recommending a product that's based on pure speculation which honestly doesn't make sense to be released 2023.

You need to first understand why some people want iPhone 13 Mini or iPhone 12 Mini. It's not just better battery life, better cameras (don't forget 13 Mini starts with 128GB model). One of the most recent Telstra Day sale had attractive prices for iPhone 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max.

                    • @netsurfer: "A lot of OZBers got iPad 9th gen for $399 (some people even got it for lower than that). iPad 10th gen, it's too early to comment on that as we do not know how low it will go in a year's time when there is a big sale."

I brought those prices up just to compare to what I think the price jack on the new SE will be. Not talking about deals here. Just saying I am happy with the products for the price I paid for them.

My recommendations were wait for the new SE, or go for the bigger phone (such as 13, 14). Obviously there are no tests on battery life of the new SE so the safer option would be just to go for the bigger phone.
I just wanted to say the SE is released in March April so the wait might be less than they think that's all.

"You need to first understand why some people want iPhone 13 Mini or iPhone 12 Mini. It's not just better battery life, better cameras (don't forget 13 Mini starts with 128GB model). One of the most recent Telstra Day sale had attractive prices for iPhone 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max."

Not sure what you are trying to say here, are you saying people prefer the 13 and 12 Mini over a similarly priced but older 12 or 11?
Mini models have worse battery life than those older models too. It's just the size, you physically can't fit a larger battery and I don't think the efficiency gains of the new chips are enough to make the Mini models have better battery life than the larger 11?

                      • @harshbdmmaster718: Has Apple announced the new SE yet? If not, how long do people need to wait?

Not sure what you are trying to say here, are you saying people prefer the 13 and 12 Mini over a similarly priced but older 12 or 11?

That's why you don't understand. The answer is yes.

                        • @netsurfer: But the original comment I replied to was deciding between 13 mini and 12 mini due to battery life concerns.

So I am suggesting the bigger 13 or 12 is the better option and because the bigger screen size is what allows the bigger battery = much better battery life. It's a compromise.

Not sure how come you are so adamant on original commenter getting the 13 Mini instead. That's where we are disagreeing.
