  • This is a good deal.

It's just a pity that they don't make the same model with an 11" display as well though.

    That would be terrific.

I've bought one of the HP 11" Pavilions and am very happy with it. But a core i3 coupled with a discrete GPU is a better machine.

But a core i3 coupled with a discrete GPU is a better machine.

Intel HD Graphics 3000 is not discrete graphics is it?

  • is this available in NSW stores?

    • Yes, starts tomorrow (SAT) 8am.

  • Is that add from a catalogue or a newspaper? If newspaper, which one? Thanks!

Wow $500 cash back on ultrabook, bettere than my $300 CB.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-s3-391-ultrabook-…

    $839- 500 = $339. Cheaper than I bought $488.

    • edit: my bad, didn't actually look at the newspaper ad :)

    • How you get that $500 cashback?

    • +2

We need to see the fine print at the bottom of the page relating to *3 as I'm sure there are conditions - like maybe a minimum $2,000 spend. I doubt they are offering $839 laptops and then give you $500 back!

      • basically this. most likely not eligible on sale items which the ultrabook is
would be an absolute steal if you could get it at that price tho!

        • Try your luck in store, like last time a lot of ozbargainers bought the Acer S3 $788 before $300 cash back.

Have to check the fine print in store to see whether they are still the same or they are smarter this time.

BTW the Cash Back is from another company and they will mail you a cheque directly. Check forum we have a thread there.

Any chance of OP uploading the fine print? I'm interested in this:

    • Any idea if this is for NSW as well or only VIC?

  • +1

this is an ok unit. squishy keyboard and rather low battery life. the ultrabook would be a heaps better buy.

  • Hi Guys

Because I just joined I can't post a new deal yet you guys might be interested in this :

    http://au.msi.com/product/nb/A6405.html#/?div=Specification

I picked up a brand new unit from Office works for $450. ( In store only clearance at West Ryde Store might be the same for others )

Comes with 2 years warranty to.

Once I can post Ill put up my receipt for proof.

    • Its a good deal but the Nvidia GT520 isnt any better then an Intel HD3000 graphics
      according to notebookcheck.com

As for the rest of the parts i has alots of ram and a good CPU so thats a plus.

BUT the chipset & motherboard are older then this $399 Toshiba i3 deal from HN :)

      Intel® HM76 VS older Intel® HM65 on the MSI

I would rather the better battery life of the Toshiba and save $50 but that just me. both are good buys

Is it just me or are the EOFYS deals not as good this year as years gone by? This is a good deal but doesn't scream bargain. I was hoping to see something happen with the Ultrabooks but that hasn't eventuated it seems…

    • +3

Since retailers aren't doing well for the last 2 years, you see heavy discounted prices which normally would apply only during EOFY almost everyday. Bascially, we don't get excited about the discount prices anymore.

      • +3

Fair explanation hadn't thought of it like that

      very true.

I bought 2 toshiba laptops 1st gen i3 @ $319 each for my friends. one hp dv6 laptop i7 2nd gen @$504 for myself. All from Hardly Normal.

no scream bargain this year at all.

dick smith put the items on sale but they dont have stock or only display ones.

Intel pen duo core laptops selling for $400-$500.

      • Mind uploading $319 laptop receipt ??

        • sorry, i forgot to mention 2011. that's last year.

this year just no scream bargain so far. they are low quality stuff at low price only.

Hardly Normal always jack up the rrp before sale. We can get the bargains when their staff accidentally put the wrong price tags i think. But i did benefit from their mistakes. i am quite happy with my hp dv6 so far.

        I bought 2 toshiba laptops 1st gen i3 @ $319

As far as I remember that was an extra special deal about a year ago. Many people had never seen that kind of pricing before and were going crazy about it at the time.

$398 is still a great price. Last year was a one off in regard to $319 pricing.

There have been plenty of good deals on laptops this year. I think people are just expecting more and more from retailers as each year passes—probably a result of the "OzBargain Effect" or more generally the OzBargainer mindset ;).

        • +4

          Awesome OzBargainer mindset ;)

Recently got a couple of made in Germany Oral B Electric Toothbrush from Good Guys at $10 each, using their lowest price policy.

          they are selling at $100
          david jones selling at $50
          cash back $30 from Oral

          refund the change 120% = $60

          so 100 - 60 -30= $10 for Oral B brush, awesome deal

They refused to do price match $50 at the beginning because of below cost. So I paid full price at $100 and got the refund with David Jones ad.

Does anyone know if this is applied in WA Harvey Norman as well?
Just tried finding out and this is what I went through:

Me: Is there a big sale on tomorrow only?
Guy: Umm.. I hope so! Umm.. Yep, there is one.. yep..
Me: I'm also trying to find out if you have this Toshiba laptop in stock…
    Guy: Yep.. Yep.. we do.

I think the guy was just trying to flick me off.. didn't even ask what model I was looking for.

    • +2

do a price search on your model before you go.

You want a bargain while they sell the one with highest commissions.

    • +1

Just went in and bought one at Osborne Park, WA

  • Tonight went to the shop and ordered 1 already. Gonna pick up tomorrow. $398.

    Some ultrabooks already sold out.

  • is this nationwide? as the add only shows Victoria stores?

  • Guys just bought a toahiba laptop $398 plenty at HN Alexandria NSW :)

  • +1

http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-u840-00q-ul… for $499 with 8gb ram looks like a good buy

    • Just bought one of these for my Mum.

      Hardly Normal Warrawong (NSW)

PS. on the box it has a supposed price of $1499.

NB. If Hardly Normal run out of stock Domayne are also doing the $500 cashback today as well.

  • I bought the laptop per the post (Toshiba Satellite C850/073) from HN Melbourne and it seems like a good machine so far (just mentioning in case it goes on sale again). Like any laptop lots of trialware/bloatware (would be nice if they actually described the purpose of the software they preinstall).

  • bought one from HN, Liverpool, not a bad deal at that price. the ultrabooks are a bit pricey even after the cashback.

  • Bought one as well from Chatswood where it was supposed to be the last except for the display machine.

Its a lot of machine for the price. The screen isn't great but it'll do. Wiped the crapware and Windows and its running Linux Mint 13 nicely including the WiFi and camera - no two finger trackpad scrolls under Mint though.
