  • Using this now throughout Europe. A bit fiddly to activate and get connected but works well and good speeds.

    • If you still remember, what are the steps, tips, trick? (To register, to get connected )

      • -2

All I can remember was validating my credit card. The rest is a blur.

  • I think i misunderstood this haha i thought its similar like boingo, so i waited near my flight day.
My master card is eligible but waiting for the simcard to arrive will be too late…. duh…

    • You can get esim instantly

      • ah too bad mine doesnt support esim (galaxy note 10+)
hmm but mrs phone is iphone 11. so it can take esim. currently using boost, normal micro sim.
i have no idea about esim. can i still have the normal sim in there ? or how can i setup this esim into her iphone 11 ? sorry totally noob in apple

        • Depends on the phone but I think usually you can have both going at the same time. In apple settings somewhere in the network stuff you can select add esim.

        • +1

Yes, you can have both. Mine is an iPhone 11 and I’m using it and my physical Telstra sim right now.
You install and activate the esim using the Flexiroam app. You manage both sims in the Apple settings -> Mobile

It’s fiddly but I eventually got it running. Coverage and speed is quite good.

          • @rickb: the latitude card is my card (ie my name).
do you think i can install the flexiroam app on my android, order activate esim there but with my wife phone number?
wait doestn make sense i think i have to install flexiroam app on the iphone and work from there. let me try

            • @CyberMurning: ok i think i get it works. redeem, activate, blah blah blah…
on the iphone setting i can see 2sims. for now i turn off the esim until we arrived in destination.

              • @CyberMurning: Yeah, it’s a bit of a pain to get going but it works fine after that.

  • +1

So can secondary cardholders get this in addition to the primary?

    • +1

Yes, both my wife and I were able to redeem the offer when we travelled in December, she has a supplementary card.

      • Damn i should applyfor supp long time ago.

  • Anyone have issues with receiving the esim email? Does anyone have the steps from ordering to activation? Greatly appreciated

    • I just done it a week ago and now enjoying that 3gb at overseas. Iphone 11.
Well from the phone you are planning to use (and can take esim) just download the flexi app, register, and follow the steps thats all i can remember. The apn already there (iphone) no need to change/setup anything funny. I turn off the esim once activated, then on arrival at destination turn it on, and select the local provider from the list

  • Has anyone gotten access with a non-28 degree's Mastercard?

Anyway to check eligibility without downloading the app?

    • +1

I have tried all my Mastercards and only the 28 degrees one worked. Used the sim successfully last year but couldn’t get it working this year.

Me and my partner had a mixed experience with the Flexiroam 3GB free data eSIM deal from 28º mastercard in Taiwan last week. It worked well except when it didn't!

On one day out of 9, I got hit with a 2-3 hour no data outage in the middle of Taipei (had a network connection with no signal bars). I tried all the obvious fixes (toggling flight mode, restarting phone, turning off VPN, manually selecting other available networks) but ended up getting half lost on the way back to WifI at the hotel. It randomly started working again 5 minutes before getting back to the hotel.

I contacted Flexiroam Whatsap support from the hotel and they confirmed "we had a vender issue that affected network registrations". Later on that day my partner lost data in the same way, so it probably was to do with the Flexiroam eSIM unsuccessfully switching networks, not a network wide outage.

It's great to have free data, but it's not a great bargain if it subtracts half a day off an all-too-short holiday. I've never been stranded in a metro area by a travel SIM card before. Perhaps it was a one off but I'm loath to trust Flexiroam again.

Like a good OzB member, I angled for compensation for the impact on my holiday time but all Flexiroam support offered was a 20% off code but that doesn't make the risk worth taking IMHO.

Don't say you haven't been warned.

  • Besides 28 degrees, I’d there any other card eligible? Westpac?

  • It does not need to be an active card.

Due to their delay sending my card, I declared it lost and it was cancelled. It arrived the next day, but of course I had to wait for the new card. I was able to redeem 2 plans using both card numbers.

    • Did you need to make a new flexiroam account to activate the second one?

      • I added both to the same account. Good question about activation as I’ve only done one, I was waiting until I can install the app on the target device. It seems like I can activate but not install the eSim?

  • Did anyone have to pay for shipping for SIM? Tried to sign up, it says USD9.90 express shipping? Unable to unselect the option :(

    • I've ordered and despite the US$9.90 shown everywhere it wasn't charged. They never asked for card expiry or CCV at any point.

Under Does this service cost me anything? in the FAQ it says "If you redeem a SIM card or X-Microchip, shipping cost is waived."

      • I signed up yesterday and was charged USD9.90 for shipping. Latitude 28 degrees customer service said to wait and see if charged to my card and of course it was. According to Flexiroam customer service (who are quite responsive) there is a shipping charge. I ended up cancelling my order direct with Flexiroam.
So even though Latitude 28 degrees clearing says free shipping on their website, it is not the case.

        • Don't know, all I can say is I ordered nearly a month ago, didn't get charged. Did you enter your expiry/CSV at any point? Never asked me for it, and can't charge me without it.

Was definitely the MasterCard 3gb you ordered?

          • @bamzero: There was no other option but to enter card details. I was online chat with Latitude 28 degrees customer service representative who said to enter details. I have been charged as it is appearing as a purchase in my account. I can only assume that things may have changed after 1 July. The Mastercard website indicates that the Sim is free and shipping needs to be paid for. Anyway, I have contacted Flexiroam and they are cancelling the order and will reverse the charge.

            • @bodri: Yeh looks like it. The FAQ has changed from what I posted in June.

Did turn out to be quite useful, was supposed to be for first day when we arrived in NZ, and had ordered a Kogan NZ Starter pack a few weeks before to be delivered to our first accommodation stop to use after. It never arrived though so the 3gb was good to have when travelling between WiFi. For free of course, for 10 bucks US prob better options.

  • I originally got the Sim card for my USA trip later this year. Had to activate it for an emergency today to use in Australia.

Successfully activated, tested that it work. Switch back to wifi. When I went out later in the evening, the service no longer work.

Tried many things. Ended up chatting with support only to find out that the Sim card/plan no longer support Australia, despite Australia is listed under the Coverage tab in the Android app. Service available in 153 countries, including Zimbabwe, but not Australia.

    • Under View my plans, click the i for the free plan and it shows the supported networks, Australia not listed there

      • The problem is one cannot see that until they have activated the plan.

        • Yeh that's a bit dodgy.

I activated mine in NZ, and is still working on return to Aus. Will see if it keeps going.

          • +1

@bamzero: BTW, stopped working in Aus. Connected to Vodafone but just got a Sign in to network prompt which only ever showed a blank page.

It looks like the shipping is free again for the starter pack SIM cards, I had just ordered one today. Don't know how long shipping will remain free, so if you are planning to travel and haven’t ordered the SIM yet, get in quick.

    • +1

Looks like FAQ was updated again to reflect this.

"Redemption of the Starter Pack and Promotional Data Plan will not cost you anything. If you redeem a SIM card, both SIM card cost and shipping cost are waived."

  • So this free data is a one time deal or once per year?

    • Once per year, I have recently redeemed it this year after using it last year.

      • Do you know if it will work again this year with the same Flexiroam SIM card that I used for the offer last year?
I click through the appear & it says eligible but wants to attach the offer to a new X-SIM (which won't work in my old phone).
Can I make it work for a second year with my existing Flexiroam SIM somehow?

        • …. actually the X SIM is just a normal SIM.
So I just need to find out how to attach this Mastercard offer to my current SIM (as the only option is to attach to a new SIM).

          • @Gaz1: You'll have to contact Flexiroam, I downloaded a new esim.

  • +1

Thanks OP- redeemed and using it in KL at the moment. Had to play around with settings to get it to work (first time setting up eSIM) but once set up all good to go.

    • @Craze if you still remember, with Flexiroam, do we need to set evertying up before hand when we are in australia or all can be done when we arrive at destination? (at the destination airport with their free wifi once landed)

      • +1

From what I remember, you just need an internet connection to download the esim.

        • thanks actually i will try to set everything up before departure and just switch the esim off on setting ready for arriving at destination

          • +1

@CyberMurning: Hey yes no need to activate before departing Oz, I actually remembered about this after landing and just downloaded/activated eSIM in KL.

Should also work with what you mentioned above- set it up but switch eSIM off until you arrive at destination- but would just lose out on the time!

            • +1

@Craze: only travel for a week so doesnt really matter 15 day should cover it :)

  • if you go over the 3gb data, does it just stop working? I was going to get one for my sister but if she goes over , i dont want to pay for her facebook usage lol

    • +2

Yes it just stops, these esims are prepaid.

      • +1

Thanks! Lucky for her I have 2 cards lol

      • If I proceed with buying it, does it activate once I finish checking out? I'm just on the app now and it says instant activation but I only want it to start in 2 weeks

        • I don't remember, probably better to try it the day before you leave.

  • Has anyone recently tried to redeem this free 3GB with a 28° card ?

I have just tried mine, and not valid.

    • What are the steps you have tried? I was able to claim it earlier this year and last year.

      • From the App, Mastercard check eligibility.
        Key in the 28° card
Sorry it seems that the card number you've keyed in is not eligible… bla bla bla….

I have never redeemed this before, first time trying.

        • +1

Try your account number instead of card numbers. I found the same issue on my card but account number works

          • @eecchhoo: Same result using account number, not eligible….

WTF i have this card for a decade now then i notice the account number not the same as card number.

            • @adventurer: Is it the same number from 10 years ago? I remember 28 degrees changed my number a few years ago for some reason and maybe the system doesn't recognise old numbers. I think you'd have to contact Flexiroam and 28 degrees.

              • +1

@ballistykx: I did a compare of my statements, same card number, and same account number for 10 yrs.

Probably like what you said have to log a case with 28d.
