Techy types should be aware that 5G Home Broadband uses CG-NAT. Carrier-grade NAT (Network Address Translation) is a type of network that assigns services with a private IP address, instead of a dynamic public IP address. Our network will then translate that private address into a public address. This means that the following items (which depend on internal NAT) will not work on 5G Home Broadband:

  • Port forwarding
  • Hosting web, email or file servers internally
  • Smart Home systems (e.g. accessing security camera footage remotely, home automation and printers)
  • Remote Access (i.e. accessing your home computer or devices from another location)

Carrier-Grade NAT can give you a strict NAT with some online games.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

    • No, the blurb that arrives with the package explains that it is data only, has no phone functionality and is not transferrable to any other device

  • Technically speaking we don't have to terminate our NBN plan and have this 5G activated and trialled at the same time, right?

  • +1

I switched over to this earlier this year… lasted around a month before I went back to NBN. Erratic speeds, constant dropouts. Avoid like the plague.

  • I find the ping on Telstra 5G home internet is acceptable for MMORPG games with Australian servers, but it's pretty frustrating for stuff like Rocket League

For example my ping on Runescape varies between 30ms-50ms, while it was always 20ms on Telstra NBN, which isn't perceivable even doing end-game bosses given the game-tick is 600ms. Haven't really noticed a difference for casual FFXIV either, but it might matter if you're doing end-game content though

The latency isn't actually bad, way better than it was in the ADSL2 days, but the problem is that it's constantly fluctuating. I can play with a consistent 200ms ping or 20ms ping, you just adjust your timing to compensate, but when it varies your timing is constantly off, it's like trying to dance to a song that switches BPM every 5 seconds

So if you're playing stuff with split-second reaction times then I'd probably avoid it, but given I'm pulling down 400/75 for only $85 a month, it's an acceptable trade-off

  • Heavy Packet Loss. Don’t get it. It was ok at the beginning. I think the modem has problem. Many times with tpg on the phone. They don’t want to replace the modem instead they ask me to get the nbn. Lol very bad customer service as well the technician on the phone are just robot, working from home, can here falling off spoon.
Feels like they don’t care they just want to hang up the phone and do what they ware doing. Very useless.

    • Home located <7kms from Brisbane CBD.
    • "This product is not available at your address."

    Seems about right…

  • I just signed up to the 100Mbps plan but the comments here are making me nervous! I haven't disconnected Optus 5G yet so I can try it out for a couple of months - it'll cost more paying for both but at half price it's not too bad.

Our Optus 5G has drop outs which are a bit annoying, but NBN for us was awful - every time it rained heavily it just stopped and we had to get an NBN technician out, which could be anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks.

I'm hoping TPG is at least on par with Optus, as it is slightly cheaper.

remember the first 30 days are trial therefore you're not paying anything as long as you notify them approx. 15 days before the next billing cycle kicks in.

they will then ask you to return the 5g modem by sending you return label which you can then take to Aus Post. You got 21 days from the day you notify them to return it back.

    using telstra home 5g excellent!
unable to receve Toh Peng Guan's 5G

  • I wish NBN prices were dropping rather than increasing. The reason why NBN is so expensive is because the government charges resellers so much to access it. They should lower the access price, or at least give lower income families a $25/month rebate.

  • If I want free WiFi I'll just search tpg and presto free internet.

  • why would people be opting for "up to 50mpbs" plan when they can get "up to 100mbps" plan for $2.50 more per month?

    i mean realistically speaking:

    • "up to 50mbps" means download speed in peak period would probably be 5-10 mbps or less
    • "up to 100mbps" means download speed of say 10-15 mbps or less in peak period
  • Why 5G is not available at my street but available on all others street surrounding my place???😂

    • You must be in some weird tiny mobile 5G black spot. Stuck between where the signal from two 5G towers aren't reaching.

  • i"m currently with Belong NBN 30mbps. Should I switch to TPG wireless home broadband 4G plan with only 20mbps, due to the half price 6 months deal and same base plan cost? My impression with current Belong plan is that it doesnt seem to be as fast as whatever I used with TPG in the past.

  • Surprised it’s available in Helensvale, will go for this until I sort out the fixed NBN!

  • Thanks ordered

  • Anyone connected their TPG 5G yet? Any speeds?

    • I can't even get any signal. TPG said they will escalate to the engineering team but I'm not hopeful.

Our Optus 5G modem only works in one particular part of the house so I suspect our area is a bit sketchy, so I guess there is a good chance that TPG 5G won't work anywhere. I tried every outlet.

    • Connected today. I’m getting about 170Mbps with 3 bars. Oddly enough if you get 4 bars the speeds drop to like 15-20Mbps. Dota 2 ping doubled from 22ms to 44ms.

      • How is it even possible you getting 70Mbps above the maximum 100Mbps Premium plan?

And i thought the higher the bar is, the better your signal is, therefore shouldn't your speed increases and not decreases?

        • Beats me! See for yourself.

          • @EuphratesFate: do you feel you are running fast (download/upload)?

            • @[Deactivated]: Downloads, yes. Uploads, not so much as I'm getting 10Mbps max..Can't complain really, think I'm gonna leave More Telecom for this.

              • @EuphratesFate: well you should leave More Telecom for this if you think you are actually running 190 Mbps on 100Mbps (max speed) Premium plan. that is no brainer.

                • @[Deactivated]: Yeah but the connection still drops if the modem has all 4 bars of signal. I’m thinking I may have got a dud..

5G is not available at my address. Is it possible I sign up by using my friends address who can get 5G and then use it at my place?Worst come to worst it is connected to 4G speed instead of 5G?Possible?
