I have been watching this item on Amazon for a while and it's finally dropped to a price worth considering.

This is an imported item sold by Amazon UK.

CamelCamelCamel shows that the lowest price (sold by 3rd party) was $419 during Black Friday 2021, so it may be worth waiting until next Friday to see if it drops any lower.

Enjoy!

  • Nice. This or the MX500? I want to use it as a photography backup drive but also to read hundreds of files from when loading into PixInsight

    • TLC MX500 >> QLC 870 QVO
      Higher warranty, higher MTBF, etc..

It's price has also dropped to $437.92.

      In reality not much difference.

      MX500 4TB has 1000TBW
      870 QVO 4TB has 1440TBW

Past tests (on the examples, this) all suggest that the actual endurance of a good branded SSD can supersede any kind of personal use. An example of myself, I suspected SSD for home surveillance in a Unifi CloudKey Gen 2 Plus is a bad idea, but after some calculations it turns out the annual TBW for 9 HD cameras is only ~100TB, or ~20 full disk overwrite. For home use, this is already pretty heavy case.

The real issue you should worry about are:

      • bad luck - SSD firmware issue due to power outage or who knows why are not uncommon, and is probably the most common issues people encounter, rather than write the drive to death. Especially common when you're using SSD externally (unplug without ejecting while the disk is still writing data)
      • cells losing charge due to the physics - if you store SSDs away for a prolonged period of time, data corruption may occur due to cells losing charges. That's why burning a disc or even hard drives are more suitable for backup than SSDs. Hard drives (magnetic) can store data for several years in good condition. Some optical discs (like MDISC) claim to be able to store data for a century.
  • Slightly cheaper on eBay with the Zip Pay deal

    • SATA?

      • No. M.2 NVMe so just insert and screw.

        • Yeah sorry, it was more that Amazon lists the 4TB as SATA, strangely.
