  • Curious how’s the warranty for this if it’s from Amazon UK?

    • +4

Amazon Global purchases are usually pretty good for warranty-like support, although in my experience they prefer refunds rather than replacements.

    • +4

I second this. In my experience I normally have to do a chat session, but they have accepted returns with me almost 2 years on (1 year after warranty finished) on a Lenovo Flex. They just want to keep you happy and I'm gathering the manufacture is the one that bares the costs. They also have paid return postage ~80% of the time with me on international returns. WD Australia may also honor as they tend to be really good, even given free power cords for the desktop hard drives upon request.

Would never buy another WD Black M.2 SSD. They run at 50° when they are idling and not doing anything. Totally ridiculous and failure prone.

    • +12

what do you want it to run at, room temperature?

      • -1

all my other M.2 SSDs run at around 40°.

WD is bad design, which will cause premature failure, not only of itself, but surrounding components too.

        • you got any proof of premature failure?

i'm sure there are hotter component on the motherboard compared to this 50°C SSD that will melt your floor…

    • That’s a pretty normal temperature though?
Edit: To clarify, a lot of NVME drives seem to idle around that point. You can find a decent amount of discourse online about the Samsung SSD's in particular.

    • +1

interesting you say this. put my SN850 in my new pc build and noticed yesterday that the idle temps were a bit silly, thought i must've messed up the mobo heatsink installation.

  • +1

    Nooo, i must resist!

  • +1

Good price, but hard to justify when the 1TB is about 1/3 the price

    • +6

Same, I got 2 1TB, like I don’t even have that many slots. I already have a 1 1TB and so I can use only one, but holly cow that’s a good price. Ordered it anyway.

      I guess OzBargain way?

      • +7

More useful for a PS5 where you're limited to 1 slot.

        • +2

          Don’t have a ps5.

I feel like I need spend another $800 to justify this purchase? 😂 someone stop me

      • I thing I'm going to order a 2TB from now on. 500GB filled up after 5 years and 2TB should last me a looong time.

(I do have a 1TB Samsung with copy speed over 1GB/second.)

Then again I look at games and see they are 100GB but I don't use them much.

    • +2

Worth a note that recent high end Gen4 drives often have better performance at 2TB and above.

      Tom's Hardware Review 1TB/2TB

It’s clear that 1TB is not enough to reach peak performance for the SN850X. This should not be an issue for general use but does suggest that 2TB is becoming the new sweet spot as time goes on, at least for high-end drives with TLC.

      • True, and honestly I've been hanging out for a decently priced 2TB, but when future proofing for a computer not bought yet, it's hard to justify in the short term. Tempting though…

    • +7

Where? the sn850x from earlier deal was pricing error and are getting cancelled

      • Yeah don't think anyone didn't get their order cancelled. Would be great deal though

    • +1

      Got a link?

  • Let’s find out whether Amazon UK can deliver more than an empty box this time… The refund for the last attempt was processed today, and it’s ~$70’ish cheaper this time…
I’m not gonna hold my breath, but it’s worth the punt

    • +1

Can't believe a few of you guys were that unlucky. I managed to get mine delivered without any issues

  • -1

Sold by the actual western digital store?

    • +2

Looks to be sold & fulfilled by Amazon UK

      • -3

Yes, but the store is WD?

        • manufacturer is WD

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

Almost paid $210 for 1TB last week!

Edit. Didn't know about https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737958. Missed out.

    • +1

Orders are being cancelled, so you didn't miss out on much

  • I assume the Samsung 990pro for $307 (when back in stock for EPP) is a better option than this one?
Or same same….would be going into a latop as main drive, gen 3 though.

    • +1

My Samsung died after a couple of years of normal use, and Samsung warranty isnt an easy process

    • This one is better mate.

    • Waste of money getting the best gen 4 SSD for your gen 3 laptop, save money and get a decent gen 3 ssd like sn570

    • If it's for your laptop, you're better off picking a Samsung instead of WD for the temperature ratings.

      • The Hynix gold p31 beats everything for laptops

        • +2

His question was about the Samsung 990 pro against the WD sn850x

Also, the Hynix gold and platinum don't ever go on sale in Australia from what I've seen.

He could get a Samsung 990 pro at the education price for close to the same price as a Hynix Gold P31 1TB.

Gen3 tests for the 990 Pro haven't been done.

  • +2

The Kingston KC3000 2TB are $299 at BPC and Centrecom right now also so if you prefer local go pick those up.

  • Thanks, got one!

  • +4

bought it cuz of many upvotes.

    • atta boy

  • screw this I'm going all in.
    It's all or nothing

  • Seems perfect for PS5. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Any good 4TB gen 3 pcie SSD's? I just want maximum storage honestly on my last m.2 slot not really fussy on speeds just looking for high capacity and large tbw so it will last long.

  • Yeah my 2 orders got cancelled overnight

  • Cheers op, cancelled my 970 Evo Plus and got this instead!

  • Damn such a good deal, think prices will drop much more? Seems perfect for ps5 but I am not using much of the space yet as not much games. Was tempted in the past with 980 pro but this is a better drive.

  • What is this like compared to the Samsung 970 evo plus?

    • +1

Performance wise, it's better than 970 Evo Plus. However, in PCIe gen 3, the benefit isn't that big. The only exception is sustained write, SN850X has better sustained write after the SLC cache is depleted. That said, the current / newer batch of 970 Evo Plus has a reasonably large SLC cache, so the case for you to notice the benefit would be if you were to clone an entire drive.

Also, this one has a heatsink. Do bear in mind, if you don't have PCIe gen 4, then you are not going to be able to take full advantage of SN850X.

  • +1

    Is the heat sink removable?

  • Very Cheap, very very good deal for PS5

  • No posts about this being cancelled yet. Should I join the party boys?

  • Placed an order and immediately got a cancellation notice. Looks like price is back up to over $400.

    • Its now sold by amazon US

  • +2

amazon UK sent me the ssd box with the drive missing last time i ordered these deals, not sure if safe too order from.

    • Seems strange they did that to many people. Where did all the empty boxes come from?

      • they just sent the SSD box with no drive in it.

        • I wonder if some sellers put empty boxes in and it got mixed all together.

  • Card got charged. What a relief.

    • Mine is also preparing for shipment 2 hours after ordering. Card charged!

  • Can these ones with heatsinks fit into a laptop?

    • +2

Nope. Laptops will usually have their own cooling system for nvmes.

  • This is a steal at this price I purchased the SN850 last year for $420 🤦🏽‍♂️

  • Mine just shipped from Amazon uk!

    • Lucky you, mine got cancelled a few hours after buying it. Price is back up to over $400 now. Hopefully you don't get an empty box!

    • My order at 9am this morning also just got dispatched!

  • Deal is back and cheaper!

    • How much cheaper did it return to?

  • Order cancelled, pricing error.

    • Order honoured and already shipped for me.

  • +2

Got mine today and it’s the 1TB model…

    • Did you select the 1tb or do we all need to brace ourselves for the fight ahead?

      • +1

I ordered the 2TB. Seems like someone at the warehouse put on the wrong inventory sticker picture

        • Oh dear. Mine has just cleared customs so hopefully I'll have it next week and I'll report back.

Best of luck to you with your next steps. Are you looking at returning and exchanging for the 2tb?

          • +1

@Dingo: They won’t allow me to exchange it directly because it’s sold by Amazon UK, so I have to wait 1-2 weeks for a refund to be processed after I return the item.

I’ll probably order a different 2TB SSD from a local seller because the SDD is the last part I need for my new PC build

    • Oh god. Worst possible scenario.

  • Received mine.
    Delivered as described. Happy days.

  • Arrived today. 2TB. Installed in PS5. 6500mb/s read speed.

Tip. Make sure you the right size screwdrivers. The screws on the PS5 strip easy.

    • Also received mine today. 2TB installed in PS5 following their YouTube guide. So easy.

The outer screw is easy to take off and back on. But the screw inside is very delicate. I think i damaged it by using the same screwdriver. Oh well.

  • +1

Received mine too. 2TB and all as expected, swimming in free space on the PS5 now…

    • +1

Nice! I was just unlucky I guess :(
